The Secret of the Ages, sold over 300,000 copies during his life. Collier wrote about the practical psychology of abundance, desire, faith, visualization, confident action, and becoming your best. Collier's Books have recently been brought back to prominence from being referenced in the popular metaphysical movie The Secret. Moreover, Robert Collier's books have been popular with self help and New thought.
After overcoming an illness he became facinated with the power of the mind and how to use it to create success in every area.
Robert Collier was an American author of self-help, and New Thought metaphysical books in the 20th century. He was the nephew of Peter Fenelon Collier, founder of Collier's Weekly. He was involved in writing, editing, and research for most of his life. His book The Secret of the Ages (1926) sold over 300,000 copies during his life. Collier wrote about the practical psychology of abundance, desire, faith, visualization, confident action, and personal development.
The Secret of the Ages, does not tell you any "secret". There are no secrets anymore, only people who choose or choose not to see what is self-evident. The power of the mind and your attitude will determine your success in life. This book is well written and oranized, easy to read but ultimately you will have to do the work for this book to be of use.
Alhamdulillah, finally finished read(red) this book. What i got and learned from this book is that the mind is the powerful thing that human ever had. Which we should be thankful to God that created us a Human being.
Another thing that i like about this book is the author himself show step by step on how to control Mind by using conscious mind - subconscious mind - universal mind. He explained it with easy to understand and reasonable.
Insya'allah. I just need to practice it and make an effort to achieve what i want in my life by using the guidance of this book.
I bought this title the same time as "The Riches Within Your Reach" also by Robert Collier. At the time, I didn't know if the volumes would be redundant or what new learning this title would present.
Cutting to the chase, this was actually a better volume and I have literally worn the cover off! I gave this book to my father (who actually introduced me to success books when I was a teen) and he loved it as well.
At 400 pages, it is chock full of deeper revelation regarding the power of thoughts, the mind, and universal supply. Given that Collier trained to be a priest, the reader should not be surprised and the number and directness of Biblical principles and quotes. However, I would not discount this volume based on differences in religion as he does not try to convert...but convey truths that have been substantiated globally.
You can not be in a hurry to finish this book but rather, take a chapter by chapter approach and journal the key learning and how you can apply it to your life. The chapters that impacted me the most;
"See Yourself Doing It" - which outlines the elements of effective visualizations and imaginations - clear, focused and vivid.
"The Law of Supply" - much like Emerson's Essay on Compensation, this chapter more plainly describes how to get what you need out of life...to demand it through thoughts, words and deeds.
As I state in most of my reviews, these types of books have to be "tuned" to the ear (or eyes!) of the reader and they are not for everyone. There are chapters that I have skipped having read them once, but there are others that I have read dozens of times over the years...it is truly a top 10 favorite of my library of "friends".
Life changing book for me. One of three in fact, the others being Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, and The greatest salesman in the world by Og Mandino. Very into motivational books and loved this book. Excellent self-help/ self-improvement book- but remember you only get out of it what you put in it.
DNF at page 24. This book is basically If you're homeless, just buy a house. Written for people that had a good start in life (born in a wealthy family, with a good amount of resources to start a business), not for the masses. You can`t say that people are not motivated and are not using their inner energy when vast majority are working for minimum wages and have zero budget to start in life and are constantly struggling to make the ends meet. Wealthy people are living in their own world and I`m pretty sure this book was not relevant for working class in 1926, and is not relevant for 99% of people living in 2023. Also, the snarky remarks towards science (aka scientists consider that (insert a scientific truth here, which was demonstrated ), but I (the author) still think they are wrong vibes) did not convince me that author knows about how real world works.
This book has been a great confidence builder for me. It is another great book of self discovery it has taught me how to deal with life in a positive way with learning how to deal with other people with learning how to deal myself.
I understand that the premise of this book is that our minds are under utilized, and we are capable of much more through visualization and manifestation, but this guy is a kook.
He intertwines religious text with his overly wordy and repetitive explanations chapter after chapter. “As a man Thinketh” did this in half the pages and without the religious BS.
“Face towards the perfect image of every organ, and the shadows of disease will never touch you”
OR
“You can get the same results without the physical exercise by visualizing in your minds eye the figure of the man you want to be, by intensely desiring it, by BELIEVING that you have it”
What? This is absolutely asinine. He must be tripping or on a manic episode. No I’m sorry but this makes zero sense. Even if he is going for something metaphysically. Disease exists. You must physically work hard to change your physical state. He is wrong to conflate the power of the mind with religion and science.
“God doesn’t send disease. God never sent us anything but good. And if he did, it’s because we weren’t good.”
Stopped reading after this. The mind is powerful, got it. Over indulges and over elaborates on material that so many have covered well before him and more succinctly.
After hearing his ad for this book set, I had to listen to it. It is read by Sean Pratt, which for me, is an automatic buy! It's basically the law of attraction, with a heavy Christian focus. I like how he ties the two together. But then, Sean Pratt was reading it, so I loved the performance! It also pre-dates the Great Depression, so some of the wording is strange relative to today's standards. The lack of entertainment stuff like TV didn't exist - so strange, and enjoyable. It was like stepping back in time, like Henry Ford being the richest man, things like that.
I read this book for the first time as a sixteen-year-old. As I reread it, I see how much it has influenced my life for the better. The biblical truth is undeniable and the impacts are lasting. I recommend this book to anyone open to changing their minds to embrace what God has for them.
Tapi buku ini sangat tebal, sekitar 480-an halaman.
Alam bawah sadar disebut memiliki kekuatan besar.
Jangan menundanya.
I once ate a really weird pizza. It had the most unexpected things on it, like salmon, cashew nuts, bananas and caviar - it was the strangest thing! I didn't know what I was supposed to think about it. But I ate it, because I bought it. That's kind of how I feel about this book.
This book was part of our monthly training focuses where we take a deep dive and mastermind upon its wisdom (details to join us at the bottom of this review)…
And am so grateful for that because it helped me uncover this gem of a book. I actually knew of the author for his work in copywriting/marketing which am passionate about - but had no idea he has this great original in the self development field too - very easily one of the greats like “Think and Grow Rich l” -
…all the Secrets of The Ages to obtaining success in any field are indeed within this book - I wonder if his background in marketing and copy made him articulate his message so simply, yet powerfully.
Highly recommend and I still can’t believe after reading so many books in my over the years - I have only had the pleasure to read this now. Especially with the insight of our mastermind that I mentioned at the beginning of this review.

The book feels like a secret conversation with an era long gone, yet it resonates as if it's meant for today. Collier writes with an earnestness that is both charming and persuasive, like a wise uncle imparting knowledge over a cup of coffee. He doesn't just present ideas; he weaves a tapestry of stories, philosophies, and practical advice that beckons you to believe in the unseen forces of potential within you.
What struck me most was how Collier bridges the gap between the mystical and the practical. He doesn't just tell you to wish upon a star and wait; he arms you with the tools to grab that star and pull it within reach. The book is an intriguing mix of motivational speech, practical guidebook, and philosophical pondering. It doesn't just scratch the surface of personal development; it dives into the depths of what it means to realize one's full potential.
However, this book isn't a light read. It's dense with ideas and theories that demand your attention and contemplation. Some might find the older style of writing a bit cumbersome, but those who appreciate a deep dive into thought-provoking content will find it a gem.
In essence, 'The Secret of the Ages' is a testament to the enduring quest for understanding and improving the self. It's for those who are not just seeking success in the material sense but are on a quest for a deeper, more fulfilling life. Collier doesn't just offer a roadmap to wealth and success; he offers a compass to a richer, more enlightened way of living. If you're ready to explore the potential of your mind and the universe, this book is a profound companion on that journey.
*Secret of the Ages* stands as a cornerstone in the self-help and motivational genre, blending metaphysical ideas with the pursuit of success. Robert Collier’s work resonates with the same spirit as Napoleon Hill’s *Think and Grow Rich*—both tapping into the potential of the mind to shape one’s destiny. However, Collier takes a unique approach, delving into the subconscious as a key to unlocking human potential.
What makes this book remarkable is its ambitious attempt to bridge the gap between evolutionary principles and personal growth. Collier, lacking empirical data, relies instead on the power of belief and the subconscious mind as the foundation of his philosophy. While this might seem speculative, it’s precisely this imaginative leap that gives the book its timeless appeal.
Collier’s insights into the mind’s ability to shape reality feel both inspirational and ahead of their time. The book’s focus on visualization, affirmations, and persistence has become a hallmark of the genre, influencing countless authors and readers alike.
If you’re drawn to works that explore the intersection of metaphysics, personal empowerment, and the evolution of ideas, *Secret of the Ages* is a must-read. Its charm lies in its ability to inspire, even if its concepts are more philosophical than scientific. A true classic for those seeking to unlock their potential.
What a great book! This is one of the first motivational books that I read back in the early 1980's that changed my mindset as far as seeking success. This book addresses the spiritual, mental and financial areas of our lives. The right mental attitude is so important in our present and future success. " Whatever you can visualize-and BELIEVE in-you can accomplish." "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he." Our place in life is immensely influenced by out mental attitude. You have to see your goal that you want to achieve before it is materialized. This book is a must read for the person who wants to change their attitude, and quit feeling sorry for themselves and start to become what they were meant to be.
I read the book and it reminded me a lot of another one I read some years ago named as The Secret. The message behind both books seems to be the same: We are what we think about. In other words, we become what we envision in our minds. The power of the mind is something that i belive in, but it does not matter how much you mentally portray yourself, things will not simply materialize before you. You have to work to reach goals in life. It is the combination of intelligence and discipline that will make things happen. The other way to make them happen is when you bent your knees in the privacy of your apparment and pray the Lord for help, and belive me if you do it with faith, help you will receive.
I had to double check that I was reading the correct book after reading the reviews on Goodreads. This book is very sexist and racist! The whole chapter on using “mental brownies” to fetch information in your mind made my stomach turn. Not to mention the section about racial memory. Did reviewers not read this?! How disappointing to know other books (the Secret) have used his premise and chose to look the other way.
This is a very powerful book which drives home the power of the subconscious mind. There are some outdated theories and idea but that is to be expected given the book was published in 1926.
There are many references to jesus and an almighty God. These should not put one off however because one can grasp the point that the author is making.
I've made many highlights throughout the book; I'll be coming back to It throughout the year to solidify the wisdom present in its passages. 4.5/5
A lot of sweeping generalizations about all of mankind. He seemed to at some points be writing to all spiritualities and then quickly inserting a Christian bible quote.
The last 49 pages literally consist of letters from his adoring fans (with one or two complaints sprinkled in) which I found absolutely hilarious.
