This review will sound strange. I'm giving 2 stars to a book I didn't like and I haven't even finished it yet. I still have another 200 pages to go but I just can't be bothered anymore. I'm putting it down for a few months and I hope this is just because of the state of mind I'm in, and not because the book sucks. I thought about this all day. The general storyline is good, the concept interesting and the characters are pretty likable. What's not to love, right?

I'm all for sensitivity and feelin

Shadow of the Sun is the first book in a promising new series by Laura Kreitzer and I just have to say, the cover is Gorgeous!

Twenty Four year old Gabriella Moretti, is a Supernatural Specialist, designed to conduct and provide intel on subjects of the paranormal, be it true or false.
One day at Zelko Corp, three caskets dated back over 2000 years old from Italy was delivered. Gabriella was expecting bones and decay, only to find rejuvenated bodies who looked almost...alive.

When I saw that this book was next up on my to-be-read pile I started berating myself over accepting yet another book for review before researching it properly. It's a bad habit of mine that I'm trying to correct. This novel has all of the warning signs that I usually try to avoid; it's long and self-published. Fortunately for me, there are exceptions to the rule and Shadow of the Sun is definitely one of them. I loved this book! In fact, after finishing it I'm tempted to

Shadow of the Sun is the first novel in the Timeless series by Laura Kreitzer. I'm new to Laura's books, but I really enjoyed this book.
I wasn't sure if I'd like it or not, but I'm glad I read it. When I heard Laura Kreitzer was a self-published author, I actually wanted to read it more. I love supporting the self published.
Shadow of the Sun was an interesting and fun read. This book had great suspense, romance and an interesting plot. Gabrielle is an amazing character to read. She is strong, in

A really good story about Gabriella, a scientist who investigates supernatural phenomena. It gets interesting when she receives 3 corpses that are suddenly regenerating. From then on it’s a thrilling and perilous journey to stay alive and deal with all the supernatural happenings that occur.
A great read and page turner and I look forward to reading more books in this series.

Dr. Gabriella Moretti never fit anywhere besides her profession and inside the confines of her lab that they call "fishbowl". At age of 19 she already graduated with honors and with a Ph.D, impressive? yes and she is probably the most intriguing character that I've read this year. Her character surrounds a great depth of mystery. The first two chapters did not really try to hide that. She is someone else, something else... People envy her especially her peers, how can they not, she was above the ...more

Shadow Of The Sun is a uniquely woven story about Angels, Guardians and Shadows and Soul Catchers. It's vivid and richly detailed history is something I've never read before, and I found myself so taken away with the story, that when I finished it I wanted more. This is far from your typical angel book. There is so many elements, surprises and bits of realism that I really surprised myself and finished this 500+ page book within a few hours.

This was, in essence, a 740 page free sample with no ending. A ruse to suck you in and get you to purchase the next books in the series. Which I won't be doing.

I don't know who the author intended as her target audience. The book is too juvenile for adults but has too much of a sexual/"romance" under-current to be for kids. (No actual sex but there is an abundance of, uh, lust going on.)

The heroine was not at all heroic. She spent the entire book crying, weeping, sobbing (in tears of various col

The angel's cry golden tears.

The first thing that drew me into this fantastical tale was the cover. I'm very visual so this vividly brought the beauty the book to life before even reading one word (along with generating questions). Who is this angel? Why is she crying? And why is electricity sparking from her hands? It's so richly designed. Then, the book starts with a scientist who in no way embodies the cover. How will Gabriella become this? Or does she?

For a debut novel to have so many charac

I was and still am in love with this book. From the very first line I was drawn in. There are only a few books that have grabbed my attention from the beginning (i.e. Twilight & Harry Potter to name a couple). Once I started reading, I wasn't able to put it down unless I was falling asleep or working. Although, there was one time I fell asleep with the book in my hands, but that's besides the point. This is an awesome read if you love the supernatural, romance, angels, etc. What happens is unexp ...more

The cover drew me in.

The cover drew me in, however upon reading it I found that I couldn't identify with the MC.
Thers lots of action, adventure and sexy angles.
The book should come with a warning though if you have suffered a loss of a loved one recently I suggest waiting to read it.

I have to start off by saying that I’m kind of on the fence with this book. It’s definitely one of those books where you like a lot of things about it, but you just can’t ignore the disappointing aspects of the novel. I really enjoyed it, but just can’t help but wish certain parts were done differently.

From the beginning I was hooked. I’ll admit it right here and now. As much as I am about to criticize this novel, I will freely admit I was freakin glued to at least the first five chapters, pro

Gabriella Moretti is a Supernatural Scientist at the Zelko Corp. When not in her lab coat, she goes by the name of Mary Sue. Her hobbies include reading, moping (due to the lack of social and love life), playing with her niece, studying ancient artifacts, and as of lately, electrocuting people. Mary Sue Gabriella's fondness of coffee mugs and pens started at an early age of twelve, when she graduated from high school. And by the age of nineteen, she had already acquired a doctorate degree. WARNINGS: I fell in love with this book and I absolutely, positively can not wait to read more. This could possibly become a favorite series.

Where do I start? Okay, if you couldn't tell from the WARNINGS, I love this book. I mean, come on people!! I stayed up into the very late hours of the night to finish this book. I was so caught up in the characters and Andrew and what was happening that when I put it down to sleep, it was all I could think about. My mind was running around like crazy with

First of all, I absolutely love the cover for this book! It is insanely beautiful and just amazing. This is what first drew me in to look at this series and I can certainly say that I was not disappointed. I wasn't really sure about the story when I first started it, but the more I read the more I wanted to keep reading. Putting it down to go to bed was nearly impossible, I was so in to it.

Laura Kreitzer not only came up with a unique take on angels, but is also a fabulous story teller.

I'm going to be totally honest - over 100 pages in, and I was STILL thinking that I wasn't going to like this book. The writing seemed wordy and unprofessional, the story seemed underdeveloped while at the same time seeming overly detailed, and the characters and plot held no interest for me. I didn't like the characters, and I especially didn't like the writing style. I genuinely believed that this book had no way of redeeming itself.

And then something clicked. I don't know what happened, but s

Shadow of the Sun(Book One of the Timeless Series) by Laura Kreitzer

Let me say that I loved-hated this book at the very beginning. As I got past that I could hardly put it down.

For some reason the whole beginning sort of read like a paranormal Dragnet episode. Dialogue mostly devoid of emotions. It went on for about the first 15% of the book. It was at about chapter seven that things finally took off. ( I was either growing used to the character- some explanations were now forthcoming that expla

This was a book that I was drawn to as soon as I saw the cover. It is gorgeous with a sci-fi feel. and fits the mysterious and adventurous summary. Needless to say, when I picked it up, I had high expectations. Unfortunately, I was left feeling very unsatisfied and let down.

The plot felt like it moved quite slowly, and there was a lot of repetition. Over and over Gabriella talked about her grief and her feelings for Andrew. It was the same feelings and thoughts every time, and it just felt like

I could not finish this book, and here's why:

1. The prologue: I really hate prologues that read like somebody grabbed a page from the climax of the book and just slapped it at the beginning. It's so gimmicky, and it doesn't work if I don't know who anybody is.

2. The main character: Most of what we see in the first chapter is Gabriella being horrible to her assistant, Sally. Gabriella tells us one thing ("I'm not a mean person!") and immediately does another (provokes and threatens Sally). Inst

This was a free book for my kindle. It really bugged me how wrong words and misspellings were so prevalent in this book. But beyond that, the author had a decent story, but had so much trouble trying to convey the emotions of her characters it resulted in her droning on and on. Whereas a truly amazing author can make the reader feel things without telling them outright, this author could not do that.

When there is "tragedy" in the book, after referring to the person she has known for 5 minutes o

Honestly my expectations were not very high and I put off reading this book until the last possible minute. A great reminder to me that first impressions are often inaccurate!

The book started off with several jumps in logic, something that get on my nerves very fast. But as I read further most if not all of these jumps were explained and the story got my attention! This is a story about Angels and a mostly human’s discovery of their existence. It is a novel explanation though and that is what kept me reading. It is also a love story and the romance is enough to convince all romance lovers that this is a worthy read! Near the end of the book the author again made a fe ...more

Enjoyed book one in the Timeless series but there were a few items that stopped it from being rated higher. I give it four stars but would have given it three and a half if I could. The story is good enough to be a five star but there were some obvious errors that made me think it wasn't professionally edited which dropped my rating. There was a little too much detail at times and too much of the thought process of Gabriella's as well. I don't always like book one of series when the story ends a ...more

What can I say, you think you know where the story is going, then Laura has a way of throwing twist after twist to throw you off. I loved it from start to finish and look forward to book two 'Soul Stalker'. The perception Laura has created for the angels is very well done and very different from anything I have ever read.

Flunked the 100 page test.

Interesting concept and development, but sophomoric storytelling. Unlikely even young readers would enjoy.

Two stars is a gift for the good concept.
