Read first chapter, skimmed next couple, threw in the towel. Heroine is moving to Cocoa Beach, Florida where the Realtor tells her "Hey, hurricanes never land here!" Never mind that Hurricane Arlene is approaching and while she's driving through town she obviously fails to notice 1) how deserted it is 2) people leaving in packed up cars or 3) houses with closed shutters or boarded up windows. No, Rocket Scientist Heroine is too busy ticked off at the cable guys for not showing up on time. Honey, ...more

After I got through the hard-to-believe thought that hurricanes don't hit the barrier islands and someone would actually believe that, I finished reading Brett. Glad I stayed with it, as I did end up enjoying the story and the HEA. I'm going backwards to read book 1 and work from there!

Stephanie Bryant's new position with Space Tech has her moving to Cocoa Beach, Florida. Now she's aware there's a hurricane on it's way but according to the weather app on her phone, it's not going to make landfall.

Truly clueless to the danger, she sets to unpacking while waiting for the installers to arrive for her phone, internet and cable. The problem is two fold. First as she moved in, her home was boarded up and the Real Estate Agent convinced her she is not in a hurricane zone and would

A chance meeting, undeniable attraction and the start of a new relationship! With the next book in the Hometown Heroes Series, we get Brett's story. He's a become a bit bitter about his outlook on people since becoming a cop and seeing all the issues in the world, but a fresh perspective from Stephanie's viewpoint has him rethinking his ways! This was a fun read ... fast paced and entertaining.

When Stephanie Bryant transfers to Cocoa Beach, Florida as part of a big promotion, she has no clue

Moving to Cocoa Beach, about to take on a job as Space Tech's Human Resource officer is just one step in Stephanie's climb to the top of the corporate ladder. The last thing she wants to think about is love, or hurricanes, but she gets both the night she moves into her Cocoa Beach condo. Enter Cocoa Beach policeman Brett Lincoln who, when he tries to explain this to the feisty brunette, that she has to evacuate, now, and cannot settle in for the night, can't get a word in edgewise for the first ...more

Romance is the last thing career-minded Stephanie Bryant wants when she takes the job as her company's director of human resources in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Her eyes are fixed firmly on occupying the CEO's office.

That is, they are until hunky cop Brett Lincoln shows up to tell her she has to evacuate almost the moment she arrives to escape the hurricane bearing down on the coast. He takes her breath away until she decides he's just a good-time Charlie who will never put her first.

As for Brett,

Hero's a cop, heroine's from the midwest, newly moved to coastal Florida as a hurricane's coming in. She's merrily unpacking while getting mad that the cable guys haven't shown up, and he's checking to make sure the barrier island is evacuated as ordered. Hey, her Realtor promised that hurricanes never come ashore in that town.

He convinces her it's time to leave, and believes she's a "me-me" girl, because of what she packs. She thinks he's hot, but she's only in Florida for a year, so she's

Brett ( The Hometown Heroes #2 )
By: Leigh Duncan
Brett is book two in The Hometown Heroes Series . I really enjoyed Brett and Stephanies story. There was times I caught myself laughing . The story flows smoothly and the characters well developed. Brett is a cop and loves his job. Stephanie has just moved to Cocoa Beach, Florida to take over a new job . There is a hurricane and evacuation orders has been put out. There is attraction between these two right from the start. This is a sweet romance

Sweet and Real

Often a sweet romance will feature overly sweet characters and predictable plots. The Hometown Heroes series it's different. BRETT has both realistic conflict and characters that felt familiar yet fresh. The best thing about this book was how the hero, Brett, was a classic hero, there to save the day, but he didn't take away from the heroine's strength, intelligence, or heart. They seemed real, like neighbors in the small community, and I rooted for them as I read. I can't wait to

If you want a nice romantic book that is a quick read, this one is it. Stephanie Bryant moves into Cocoa Beach, Florida, during evacuations for a hurricane. She's rushed off the island by a sexy police officer, Brett, against her wishes. This is the beginning of an up/down relationship as they fight their attraction and find what they really want from life.
I received this book to read for the 2011 New England Reader's Choice Bean Pot Award.

This book is entertaining and certainly gives one the perspective of a person involved in evacuating from a hurricane. Doesn't sound like fun to me, but unexpected attraction leads to romance and a satisfying ending. The only reason for four stars is because I felt the story centered almost entirely around two people, and I like a little more involvement by others. Still another good read from Leigh Duncan, and I enjoyed the ARC for an honest review.
