Hi. I'm Joan Eliabeth Lloyd. Let me tell you a bit about myself.

Pesonal stuff: I was born in 1941 - yes, as of this writing I'm 77. I have a wonderful partner of thirty years named Ed (no, we're not married - for tax reasons) two wonderful daughters, a talented son-in-law and three grandchildren, Sarah and Adam, both out of college and gain-fully employed and Luke, aged 15.

Professional stuff: I wrote my first book, Nice Couples Do, in 1990, because I wanted to share my ideas about sexual communication and sexual freedom. I've written many books (novels and non-fiction) since but stopped writing several years ago.

As you may have gathered, I'm a devoted couch potato. I'm an omnivorous reader, both in my eyes and in my ears.

My present interest is in Battered women. I donate earrings, about 900 pair a month, to shelters all over the country, with the help of attendees at my many workshops.

bedtime stories for lovers is a collection of 18 erotic short stories. I enjoyed this book because all of the stories were tastefully written. Lloyd used descriptive passages that were sensual and erotic, and not written in such a way that created a raunchy and sexually graphic image.

Although I am a fan of good erotica, these stories were written in a fairy tale form, which for some of them worked, but for others it did not.

I wanted to like this book, I really did! Erotica in fairy tale settings held such promise! But, despite some cute ideas these stories just feel flat. The stories were too short to care about the characters & the sex too vanilla to be worth it just for the sex.

The standard bedtime story is only a few pages long with a happy ending to go to sleep to. This book contains a series of them, only in this case the action is explicitly for adults only. With only a few pages to work with and some needed to set the appropriate context and the need to reach the specific type of happy ending, there is little ink for preambles.
The action is very explicit, worthy of the most detailed skin magazine columns. These stories will serve to get only the most rapid response physiologies energized for action. Nevertheless, it can serve as a “bedtime” primer for all adult couples.

This book was disappointing. The stories were straightforward and too short. They didn't really rev you up with anticipation. They didn't leave you squirming with desire or eager to turn the page and get to the next story. They were just words written on a page that didn't transport you anywhere. Maybe in this day and age I'm too jaded to really enjoy erotica, or maybe it actually was poorly written. Either way, I wouldn't recommend this to any hard core erotica reader. Maybe to a few beginners who are shy when it comes down to the nitty gritty, but no more. 2/5
