About the author

Jesse Hilton Stuart was an American writer known for writing short stories, poetry, and novels about Southern Appalachia. Born and raised in Greenup County, Kentucky, Stuart relied heavily on the rural locale of Northeastern Kentucky for his writings. Stuart was named the Poet Laureate of Kentucky in 1954. He died at Jo-Lin nursing home in Ironton, Ohio, which is near his boyhood home.

I own this book of Jesse Stuart's and work w/a lady inwhich Jesse Stuart visited her school.
Should be a great primer for anyone interested in wanting to teach.
I would like to be like Jesse Stuart.

I really enjoyed this book! Jesse Stuart was my grandfather and aunts principal so it was even more special to read. Mr. Gallion, the principal of this troubled school, was faced with never ending challenges and always found a way to meet them head on! It was neat reading words from the times I’ve never heard of like “blackguard” and the rampant pinball gambling issue!
