Roni Jarrett was once in love with a high-rolling strip club owner who used her and abused her. He caused her to lose the job of her dreams, not to mention her self respect. With nothing left but her newfound faith in Christ and her old BMW, she hits the road and ends up where she started, in her old hometown. With a new job in an upscale beauty salon, and a position as music director for her church, she's doing all she can to live a life that's pleasing in the eyes of God. Unfortunately, other people's drama has a way of following Roni Jarrett and it follows her to her new life in Florida. When her best friend from childhood turns up dead in the streets, the local police behaves as if Roni may have had a hand in that death, and everything changes. Roni finds herself caught up in a dangerous maze of gossip and lies that could lead to her own destruction. The only man willing to help her, Police Chief Don Gillette, is a gorgeous hunk of a human being who makes Roni's heart pound, but his own reputation causes even more drama to enter her life. Roni is tested time and again as she struggles to understand what is happening around her. Her budding relationship with Don Gillette, a relationship that seems sent from God, may get caught in the wreckage too. Will Roni's newfound faith be able to withstand so many trials, and will Don Gillette turn out to be the love of her life or the worse thing that had ever happened to her?
Not sure about this book. This is one of my favourite authors but I found it boring. Not convinced that a street kid would have been so naive about the whole situation. I am disappointed 😞 with this book, at least I know this author has in my opinion produced better.
This book had me so intrigued, just when you thought Neka’s killer was found there was another twist. I also like that there was a little romance involved. I just wish it didn’t end so abruptly.

ONE MISTAKE DON'T make you un lovable. But taking back the cause of that mistake might do you in and Roni Jarrett is nobodys fool as she is leading a new found walk with God and surviving these trying members of her congregation and the beauty shop she manages if the gossip doesn't get her she might just survive the bullets flying all around her.
I'm currently reading it and it is really getting annoying. I'm not liking the romance side of it. The author makes the hero, Gillette, out to be some old playa type dude, and it just disgusted me, because Roni is young. She also keeps getting in situations where Gillette has to be the hero and rescue her after which he always lectures her. I did like the mystery in the book but every thing else I could have done without. Now I'm regretting buying the book.
This book was chosen as our Book Club March choice. I actually give the book a 3.5 but the only issue I had with the story was the relationship with Roni & Gillette. He seemed to be a father figure to her instead of a love interest and it was hard for me enjoy that part of the story line. The other issue I had was Roni was 26 in this story but was portrayed with a much younger mind set yet the back story of her life would seem to show someone who should have more street sense.
I loved this novel. I have never read a Christian Fiction mystery but it was a lot of fun. It took me a while to actually read because I needed to write but once I got into it, it was fast-paced, kept me on the edge of my seat. I can't wait for the next installment in this series. I guess this isn't much of a review. I guess I am making a statement that this is a good novel.
