Sadly, as with the other previous parts of this 3rd volume, I really didn't like the story. Mostly, this has to do with the characters; while the new main characters were interesting in volume 1 and phenomenal in volume 2, in this volume the newly added characters - Miyako, Apollo, the Maids - felt really bland, especially Apollo's appeal was meant to be his mysterious unknown aura, which grew pretty stale after some time.

The story, which Kawakami said he now wanted to focus on, was almost nonexisting; it took the main crew of Sayama and buddies until the beginning of the third part to actually arrive at Kurashiki and get into action - all the plot before that was just build-up.

On a positive side note, however, Kawakami in general shows a very progressive side in his writing: before, he wrote about LGBTQ topics (in 2004, in JAPAN!), depicted love as something going beyond just affection between two people of same or different genders and is now writing (in a very mature way) about sex as an expression of love and a means to become pregnant. And all of this in a novel for a (mostly) Young Adult audience.

This 3rd volume really was a drag to get through and I think I will take a break from the series, but I am positive the next volume will be better and I will definitely come back for more!
