The fourth book I've read about Alaska in the past year. Coordinating author and Michigander Jim DuFresne wrote what I consider the best guidebook on Isle Royale. He doesn't disappoint in Lonely Planet's "Alaska." Like other books in this series, it's well-organized by region, with just enough representative entries of each community's businesses and attractions to allow comparison without overwhelming the reader with exhaustive detail. I like the attention given to ecologically friendly establishments, but never in a preachy way. I love Lonely Planet's "Top" lists, which give ideas about sites or experiences to include in your journey.

A good guide to the major trails in Alaska. Not as thorough as I'd like it to be but it's fun to casually read and see what's out there.

Lots of maps, illustrations, and basic info for if you've never hiked in AK before. If you are looking to hike in the Anchorage area (where I live) this website is awesome for finding a trail:
