This is the best beginner book. Drawing the chair was a surprising challenge because my scale was so far off so it made me think about how I have to reference points and lines in reference to each other. The grid reminds me of what a math teacher labeled kitchen work. Necessary, and it makes a lot of people feel some type of way having to perform them. I have embraced using the grid, and started also using a ruler I may start with a compass too.
