"This straightforward and accessible system walks amateurs step by step through the drawing process. Designed as a self-study workbook, it eases individuals through a grid system involving four simple concepts that are key to realistic sketching and shape, line, value, and texture. This revised edition contains information on composing, shooting, selecting, and drawing from photographs. Clear, specific instructions eliminate guesswork and enable amateurs to master realistic drawing in a few weeks. "
This is the best beginner book. Drawing the chair was a surprising challenge because my scale was so far off so it made me think about how I have to reference points and lines in reference to each other. The grid reminds me of what a math teacher labeled kitchen work. Necessary, and it makes a lot of people feel some type of way having to perform them. I have embraced using the grid, and started also using a ruler I may start with a compass too.
