To trzecia książka Axelsson, którą czytam. Odnajduję podobną konstrukcję znana mi z jej poprzednich powieści. Losy dwóch pokoleń szwedzkiej rodziny przedstawione równolegle obok siebie. Kompozycja przypominająca kryminał. Kolejne strony prowadzą do odkrycia zagadki.

This was one fascinating story!! I was slightly disturbed by the ending (several questions arose) but still the way this drama was built, is superb!!!

"Ice and Water, Water and Ice" was disappointing and slow, and the characters didn't really capture my attention.

I rather liked the slow pace, the charachters described, the atmosphere of coldness and iciness (sort of reminding me of Smilla's Sense of Snow, which I love), and the atmosphere of a mystery happening on board a ship, weirdly enough reminding me of Clutch of Constables - which is very different. However the "mystery" or "detective" part is basically absent - which was quite disappointing. I mean - if I were reading a family saga, I wouldn't be expecting anything in that lane, but it does have s ...more

I think other books from Majgull Axelsson I've read were better. Maybe she went into amount of pages, cause April Witch has half less pages than this book. Weird.
It's a good book, but just like April Witch the end is a little disappointing. The wrenching between the relationships of the characters is very good written and gives the book the coldness that is so specific for Scandinavian authors.

This detective story was not to my taste, I did not like the style of reading and I must admit that I skipped pages so I would get trough teh book faster.

bra bok, jag gillar böcker som

I love this book, the slow pace and the melancholy poetic rhythm of the story that never really reaches its ending making me realise that I just have to see the Arctic beauty...

Helt okej bok.

I am reading the dutch translation of this book. Only just started but liking it already, reading Scandinavian authors feels like coming home...
This remained a good read, highly recommended!

I found this book a bit slow, especially the part which is situated in the present.
More like 3,75 stars.
Complex characters and skillfully weaved storied for each of them. Did miss a few things in the revelation in the end though.
