This about the 10th time I've read this oral history of interviews with people who knew Carver. I love it. Fave chapter, I think, was Chuck Kinder followed by Tobias Wolff.

Damn the respect for this man is so evident even with all the flaws talked about. I love discussions of people and their art. God rip Raymond carver your poems still make me cry

I gained a profound respect for Carver. The interviews serve to show the real man behind the rumors and myths--his flaws and his triumphs.

He was an alchemist. He turned the squalor of his life and the tainted stories he heard around him into wonderful art. He was our Chekhov.

Completely fascinating to read. Loved the different memories and discrepancies in the interviews. Just great.
