Designed to amuse and intrigue the young reader, this book combines cartoons with facts and simple analogies to provide an introduction to the world of creepy-crawlies asking questions such as: which beetle firesa spray gun?; can spiders kill people?; and which insect tastes with its toes?
I have quite a few of these books in my classroom library. They just get eaten up by my younger students for the images and quick facts almost like guiness world record books were back in the day. The information can be over the heads of younger elementary students but very appropriate for 3-6 grade students. There are plenty of opportunities for students to learn some new vocabulary based on the facts, animals, bugs, and science found in these books. This is also an easy book to adapt into science lessons like life cycles, segmentation of bugs, classifications, and other natural science concepts.
