This series is fantastic. It is well written and the books are beautifully illustrated. This volume, Darkness Descends, continues the narrative began in the first three volumes very well. I wondered if there should have been more pages dedicated to Augustine and his impact on church history.

I strongly recommend this series. The history of the early church is presented in a very personal manner that convicts and inspires.
