If you or someone you love suffers from depression, here's the help you've been looking for! Written by a medical doctor and a pastor who have been personally impacted by depression, this book confronts the myths that have developed around the disease and offers strategies for every area of life--physical, psychological, and spiritual--that it touches. Do you feel alone or helpless? Overcome by darkness? Let the experiences of fellow-sufferers and the expert advice presented here fill you with renewed hope for healing. A great resource for those who give counsel and support to others--pastors, counselors, small group leaders, teachers, concerned friends and family members.
I liked the way the authors took a positive viewpoint on living with depression, discussing all the different types of depression. How big changes usually require painful crisis. They discuss the importance of faith/scripture, medication, exercise, nutrition, sleep, light and some type of volunteering where the depressed person can help others and in turn receive so much more than what they gave -- this is something that I never thought of but I can see how it can have a positive change in their perspective with regards to their diagnosis. Will have to see if my daughter will be open to volunteering to help others.
A very good book for those who SUFFER from depression. A very good book for those who know of someone with depression. Those who suffer, haven't you just wanted to punch some sanctimonious A-hole who passes judgment? Better yet, get those A-holes to read this book!
This is the book that helped me to understand depression and how it CAN be lifelong. Either a BATTLE or simply a SITUATION. My choice and yes, drugs do help.
