Luck of the Draw

Rate this book
Friends come and go, but the good ones are hard to let go. Kennedy and her best friend Cherae were like "two peas in a pod," Kennedy's daddy would say because they were tighter than a large man in a medium suit jacket. Although they were totally different in size, personality and back ground, they had been friends and loved each other since the seecond grade.
Tables turned for their friendship when that evil word 'jealously' came between them over a sexy club owner named Julian Roberson. One night led this duo down an ugly road that Kennedy never wanted to travel on and a road Cherae never imagined she'd lose on. Cherae opened up a can of pain on Kennedy and after over twenty-five years of friendship, one man caused it to fall apart. Not knowing what to do or who to trust, Kennedy sought support from her true friend Teresa, who had tried to warn her about her life long pal Cherae many times before.
When the smoke clears and the truth finally comes to light, they learn a lesson in friendship, love and loyalty.

BRIEF SUMMARY
Kennedy and Cherae was the closet of friends. On a girl’s night out with Kennedy, Cherae and Teresa, they met Julian. And with the luck of the draw Cherae becomes extremely jealous. With jealously, comes the test of friendship.

THOUGHTS

Why I hate this book, Cherae. Why I love the book, Kennedy. However, O.M.G! Cherae is trifling, trifling, trifling.. beyond words and the fact that she got good in the end has me so upset. But, I can't even get that mad, why, she was in the author's book Now You Wanna Come Back 2 and she was doing her thing. I'm so glad I read that book first; I am also shocked this is the same person I was reading about in Luck of the Draw because she was not a likeable character for me in this book. Julian and Kennedy's relationship was prefect and I love them together. But Julian, serve him right, for what he got for even attempting to think of another woman's ta ta. But I love him, it's good to see a grown man cry and show his emotions when he loves a woman. Kennedy was so soft when it came to her friendship with Cherae and it left me so frustrated. Teresa seems to be the only friend that was real.

I have to admit, you basically figured out how the story would unfold but how the story was told and the characters' actions and reactions added to the appeal of the story. Although this book was written prior to Now You Wanna Come Back 2, it was also good to see Kennedy and Julian entering into that story plot and reconnect with them.

P.S: I felt sorry-ish for Rona. I didn't get to know her to dislike or like her.

This is my second read by Anna Black. She didn't disappoint with "Luck of the Draw". The book is about Kennedy a spoiled, trusting, sweet woman who loves her best friend like a "sister". However, her friend, Cherae thinks she's a rich, spoiled, fat bitch who's had everything handed to her, an easy life. Ironically, this same sister-friend lives this "good-life" as well because she lives and mooches off Kennedy (always begging for money) as well as Kennedy's family. Kennedy finally meets a "good" man that doesn't want the modelesque Cherae and Cherae looses her mind literally. Well, we all know two things well, misery loves company and what happens when jealousy rears its ugly head. I felt Kennedy pain, anguish and plain old stupidity so much throughout the book that I was getting tired from all the rollercoaster of emotions. That's just how great Annas writing is in that she has the ability to show and not just tell.
Anna definitely has talent. This story was smooth reading. This wasn't just the same ole drama, drama and more drama book that in the shock tactic of the story you aren't concerned with the actual writing, flow and language in the book. There are only a few writers that, I feel, have truly learned the craft of "WRITING" and I believe Anna has learned the skill/craft or hers is just a God given gift. Well, done Anna and you are now classified as one of my favorite writers.

So I was a fan of Now You Wanna come back, Anna’s first book and when opening up Luck of the Draw I was not disappointed. I loved the drama, the deceit, and the overall depiction of genuine love. One thing I know about Anna Black novel’s is that when I read her work I am going to get a love story like no other, mainly ending the perfect way. This story shows how a friend can be jealous and have self hate without actually admitting it. When Kennedy attracts the perfect man, Cherae would want, all hell breaks loose, and a 25 year old friendship between the women goes threw a rollercoaster of lies sex and all that in between. In the end Cherae gets what’s coming to her and although I hated how naive Kennedy was to Cherae’s lies, her reaction was realistic to some women who refuse to believe they have a good man. This was a page turning novel that had me saying what in the hell will these folks to next.

So after almost a month of hearing my sister going on and on about this book, I finally decided to read it. It was great from the first page to the very last page. I read it in less than a day because I could never get to a point where I wanted to put it down. The characters were well developed and it didn't portray AA as living the ghetto fabulous lifestyle. The main character, Kennedy, was a successful business owner who, at times, had me wanting to slam my galaxy tab. Her "bestfriend" Cherae just made my blood boil because she was everything but a friend to Kennedy. I don't want to give away the story. All I can do is recommend that everyone read it. I cannot say enough good things about Luck of the Draw, and I'm glad that my sister insisted that I read it. This is my first book by Anna Black, but it definitely won't be my last!

3.5 star rating.....This started with a girl's night out with Kennedy, Cherae and Teresa, they met Julian and all three were attracted to him but with the luck of the draw Kennedy is the lucky winner....Kennedy and Julian become an item and Cherae becomes extremely jealous and with jealously, comes the true test of their friendship.......This is were things get kinda predictable but not so much so that it's not an enjoyable read.......Kennedy was a lil too naive cause she should have seen through some of the bull that Cher did at times...but for those of you who haven't read it I won't say anymore.....Just know that although it seems predictable at times the actions and reactions of the characters will keep you reading......

I am so loving the anna black books. This one stared a little slower than the other but im glad I stuck with.As usual this book didn't stop with the drama and these best friends were off the chain.Jealousy is the root of all evil.Charae will definitely have you wondering if you have this type of friend in your group. In he end if something is meant to be it will happen and you might be surprise how things turn out.

This is my fifth book read from Anna Black. Anna Black did a really good job put out this book because her book will never disappointed and bored to me. I am happy that Kennedy and Cherae are back to friend even though Cherae did Kennedy wrong. This book and author deserves five stars and I'm looking forward to read another book from this author.

Luck of the draw is just how it all went down. Three friends hit the club scene and are all taken back by the fine as wine, Julian. Kennedy, Cherae and Teresa all wanted him, but who had the best hand landed the prize. Too bad everyone can't respect the rules of the game. Friendships get tested when best friends, Kennedy and Cherae go toe to toe in the game of love. Kennedy is playing for keeps while a betrayal of the worst kind creeps in to destroy.

I loved this book. This plot can be seen in everyday life; the friendships of the main characters, the jealousy, the envy and betrayal all made the plot flow. I especially loved that one of the main characters were full figured..and not just a size 8 either. She reminded me of myself in some ways and some of the same things I go through as a full figured woman. Anna Black does a wonderful job of portraying realistic characters and real life situations. I kind of wish the ending didn't seem so vague; there was so much detail behind the betrayal but it seemed to have all gotten summed up at the end in a few pages. I guess I just wanted more. Nonetheless, it was a great read.

This is a good read. Don't know if it's my thing, though. But everything is executed well. Timing is great, as well as the dialogue. Just not my thing, seeing it is about, women getting men.

Quick read with a predictable plot but interesting enough to finish. This is why you have to watch your friends and trust your man.
