I had to do a book review for a class and this book was short. It was actually really good, too. Really put ethical behavior in the work place in perspective.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It really opened my eyes to people's different ideas of ethics and values that surround us.

I believe this book will be the shortest book I read this year, but everything in this book is clear and helpful.
It devides to 2 parts, "The Five Principles of Ethical Power for Individuals" and "The Five Principles of Ethical Power for Organizations". Bosses and workers can read it and share the same agreement of ethical management. I wish I could send this book to my Japanese former employer and make him read it.

Is it fair to all concerned in the short term as well as the long term?

The 5 P's of Ethical Power

>Purpose
Purpose is not a goal. A goal is something tangible. It has a beginning and an end. But purpose is ongoing.
what is my purpose in life?
How to stick to one's purpose? being right with life - behaving in a way that makes you feel good about yourself
>Pride
People with self-doubt listen to others too much, and people with false pride listen to others too little.
Choose to feel good about yourself, affirming yourself.
"Every day you have two choices, choose to feel good about yourself, or choose to feel lousy. Why choose the latter?"
>Patience
once you learned to be patient and trust the timing of higher power, things will work out for you. If you needed an answer for a problem by 9 o'clock Thursday morning, you'd find that you mind not get the answer on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.
You have a different way of looking at things. You don't have to always have things right now.

You must help people build up their self-esteem before you can expect them to be strong.
- How to build up self-esteem?
=> by accentuating positive experiences, catching people doing something right and praise them; it's like putting the money in their self-esteem account.
Most organizations are set up to accentuatue the negative and to catch people doing things wrong rather than right.
When people are attacked or not dealt with in a truthful manner, they lost respect for their organazation and pride in their jobs.


Set your goals and objectives and the perfomances standards.


managers roll up their sleeves and help people accomplish their goals.


sit down with your people and evaluate performance against the goals that were set.

Так часто слышу «цель оправдывает средства» и так часто сталкиваюсь с несправедливостью, обманом и нечестной игрой в бизнесе, что это разочаровывало. А тут авторы показывают, что бизнес становится успешнее, если руководители и сотрудники придерживаются норм этики

Excellent book, easy to read, and full of knowledge that every worker should take in consideration prior to start working. I completely loved it and I am going to read it again. it is only around 150 pages.

Just finished "The Power of Ethical Management" by Ken Blanchard & Norman Vincent Peale.

Originally published in 1988, the book is an easy to read, conversational style tale written in a parable story format to bring out ethical lessons and strategies for overcoming ethical dilemmas.

The first part of the book sets the stage for definitions of integrity and introduces a handy "Ethics Checklist". The remainder of the book reveals a powerful "5 P's" framework of Purpose, Pride, Patience, Persistence and Perspective. The authors examine the 5 P framework first on a personal level, asking the reader to spend time in self reflection and subsequently through a corporate or organizational level.

5 stars for a classic examination on character & integrity! Check it out.

Pick it up off my shelf this morning and decided it was time to read it again. I read it in college, but didn't really think about it then. As I re-read it, a lot of things stuck out. I love the powerful quotes throughout the book. I like the way they authored it as a parable. There are a lot of really great things in the book, and most of them apply to everyday living, not just management.
Every high schooler should have to read this before they ever work their first job. Every company should have new employees read this book.

I read the book rather than listen to cassettes, anyhow this book gives simple examples why acting ethical makes more sense than "cheating"... If you have Christian beliefs than this book should not present things that are revolutionary... in the end ethics is not something we invented ten years ago, if we invented it at all... The book is short so whether or not it is a good read is really irrelevant since one can finish it under an hour. :-)

I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick-read and kept my attention throughout. At first I thought the scenario was a little cheesy as the authors used it to articulate their thoughts on management, but ultimately it was very effective and the story made all of the advice seem more natural. I'm a college student, not on a track to get involved in business necessarily, and I truly enjoyed the read and took a lot from it that I will be able to use in my life and leadership roles.

This is a little more my pace than some of Blanchard's Minute Monkey stuff. The CEO of the company I worked for, now retired yet still acting Chairman of the Board, of my employer recommended this book. I firmly believe in karma. This book shows you how karma is very predictable and reactive - not hocus pocus at all.

Somewhat overly simplistic but contained several good ideas. I found it a bit strange that this book was written in "parable" form, but it seemed to work. It is mostly an overview, leaving any hard-hitting or controversial points alone. As short as it is, it is definitely something to read if you are interested in ethics and/or management.
