I read this primarily because it was in the same volume as another book I was reading, and I had a lot of time on my hands and not much else to do. It's a nice enough book, though I found the emphasis on how wonderful old-time Sunday School traditions were and how it's too bad they're gone somewhat off-putting. I went to Sunday School throughout my childhood but it was in very different kind of church and community and very different kind of Sunday School lessons. I have attended churches that have some vestiges of the traditions he talks about but don't feel any nostalgia for them. I thought some of the lessons he talks about helpful but they could have been learned in lots of places other than Sunday School. So the book is kind of a mix of good lessons learned as a child, meaningful to anyone, and a lot of nostalgia for a particular kind of Sunday School, which may have been good but I'm not convinced it's so bad that it's gone.
