This review is for Convenience Store Romance only.
This short story made me think. It isn’t your usual m/m story, and doesn’t fit the anthology description – not exactly, at least. And that was what made it so interesting to me.
In a way it does talk about Darren getting ahead, but he doesn’t do it by pushing his way onto the career ladder. Rather, he attracts Rob’s attention, and Rob ends up helping him figure a few things out – because that is who Rob is. The lesson is hard for Darren, because Rob ends up leaving to pursue his own career goals. But that, also, is who Rob is.
I did struggle with the fact that there isn’t a happy ending – but in the end, both characters are true to their nature, the story is very realistic and will stay with me much longer than many others I have read. A very nice surprise!

I prefer my erotica with some plot and character development, which I know isn't for everyone who goes for this type of stuff. Some of the stories here are just two guys getting together and humping, and that's okay, too. Variety is good for anthologies. The best, though, were more than just stories of sex. I particularly liked Stafylos, The Grape Man by David Holly, which may not have been historically accurate but was inventive and sweet and certainly conjured up a picture of another time and culture. The real jem, though, was Red Haircrow's Convenience Store Romance. What a great little story! My own story in the volume was Boy Toy For Hire. It had been a long while since I'd written it, so I re-read it. Not bad!
