The Shonen Art Studio instructional book and CD is a wonderfully informative book that steps the artist through the process of creating their very own Manga book. It has everything an aspiring artist will need to create their own digital Manga book from scratch.
The only issue I had was that when I opened any of the images on the CD in Photoshop, the default Mode was set to Grayscale. So, at first, I only created a character in gray colors, as you can see above. I had to manually configure the image to be RGB so I could use colors. I would have thought that should have been set automatically since the user is supposed to be learning how to use colors on the images.
I had a lot of fun adding all the colors, even though they were all gray, and perusing the disc looking for more things to add. I didn't end up adding anything else, but there are a lot of things I could have, like accessories, weapons, and vehicles. There are also plenty of backgrounds, word balloons, speedlines, and tones.
For any Manga artist, or want-to-be-artist, Shonen Art Studio is the perfect book and compact disc combo for you. The book is easy to read and understand. It will give you a good foundation on how to digitally create your own Manga book. So, if you are a fan of the action Manga books that are aimed at young boys, this is the perfect book and CD combination for you.
