So this book was originally published in 1994. A lot has happened in the world of photography in the 24 years since it was put out. Although a lot of the technique of photography remains the same with digital cameras this book shows it’s age a lot because it focuses a lot on film technique.
I picked this up for free at The Book Thing in Baltimore and that’s the only reason I grabbed it. I was interested in seeing how much has changed and how much is still the same with photography. Like I said a lot of the technique is the same but unfortunately this book although full of interesting little tips on things is very repetitive. I think that has to do with the fact it’s broken down by types of photography such as studio photography, flowers, still life, family. So a lot of the tips are the same as for other types of shots.
Because it’s supposed to be for everyone it’s pretty simple and so doesn’t go into enough detail for certain things which are more complicated and require more than two pages to teach.
Definitely not a top pick for current photography but still interesting to look at and study old photographic technique.
