I would have given this higher marks if the hero and heroine had spent more time together. It was really readable and I did enjoy it and didn't really get bored in the at least a third of the book where the hero and heroine were not together while she was growing up from 17 when they met to 22. This was an oldie so unlike the more modern HPs, the hero was not the top of the heap power wise or money wise. He had some financial troubles which played into the story but you knew that in another 5 ye ...more

It is true that during some part of the book, the H, Max, doesn’t appear. But when he returns, he does it in full force and overcoming all obstacles in his way to conquer Olivia and not loose his business to his rivals (Olivia’s father and his own half-brother).
I liked specially the beginning of the story, where Max believes Olivia to be a little older than she really is. The attraction between them in the first short encounter is positively steamy.

3.5 stars. This started out decently, but overall was only ok. Too much of the story wasn't focused on the romance, but instead on the heroine's other relationships and the business maneuverings going on. The ending seemed pretty quick, and the heroine really had to take the hero's love for her on faith -- overall I was left with the feeling that they hadn't spent nearly enough time together to know how they felt. Still, an ok read.

This is probably still my favourite Charlotte Lamb text (next to Vampire Lover) despite having read close to a hundred of her novels.
I love the relationship between Olivia and Max, when they're together, there's an understanding and desire between them. Although Max is absent for a good chunk of the book, Olivia's connection to him never seems far.

It was a pageturner for me even though the hero, Max, was not present in most of the book's middle. He lost his everything for Olivia's love. But there is hope in the end that he'll earn all back again, as he got the heroine. Very good writing by Ms. Lamb.
