4 stars for Caught in the Act and 3 stars for Casey,

This book contains the following two stories.

4 stars for CAUGHT IN THE ACT.
Good, enjoyable romance story. There were a number of good things about this story. Someone took a shot at Del, and the related danger provided interesting conflict. I loved the characters. I was delighted with the heroine's actions at the end.

This is the third story in the series around Dane Carter's detective agency. The anthology Fallen Angels has the first two stories: Beguiled about Dane Carter and Wanton about Alec Sharpe, both private investigators. Caught in the Act is about Mick Dawson, a 26 year old undercover cop whom readers first met in Beguiled, when he was a teenager.

Sexual language: moderate. Number of sex scenes: six. Setting: present day U.S. city. Copyright: 2001. Genre: romantic suspense.

3 stars for THE BUCKHORN BROTHERS: CASEY.
This is sweet, light and fluffy - a nice, pleasant romance story. Emma has problems with her parents and runs away from home at age 16. She returns 8 years later to visit her dad who is in the hospital. Casey had been a friend to her as a teen but missed her after she left. Now he wants her and woos her. Everyone in the story is likeable, generous and sympathetic except Emma's parents and a few jealous females. There is almost too much likeability in this story.

There are at least four other Buckhorn Brothers stories, published separately. These are about Sawyer (Casey's dad), Morgan, Gabe and Jordan.

Sexual language: moderate to strong. Number of sex scenes: four. Setting: present day Buckhorn, Kentucky. Copyright: 2002. Genre: contemporary romance.

The Buckhorn Brothers: CASEY
Setting: small town by reservoir of Buckhorn, Kentucky
Theme: youth/maturity; responsibility; self esteem;
Characters:
Casey Hudson – raised by the 4 Hudson brothers – his father, a doctor, took him home and claimed him even though he was fathered by a different man when his mother didn’t want him. He is handsome, mature for his age, thoughtful, careful. In High School, even though Emma adored him and came onto him, he cared for her by not having sex with her, by being her friend and doing his best to protect her.
Emma Clarke – mother a hateful drunk, father ineffective in dealing with mom - during High School she was promiscuous – though edged in towards Casey whenever possible (but though Casey very attracted to her, he saw the desperation behind her actions and he didn’t share). When her mother started a fire at the town diner (she was looking for booze or money, and dropped her cigarette), and Emma called it in, and mother hit her and threatened to blame her, she & her father went to the Hudsons – it looked like dad was disowning her because she said she was pregnant – and the Hudsons were kind (and she got to wear Casey’s big football shirt to sleep in)… but she snuck out (with Casey’s $100 – which she repaid a couple of months later) and headed to Chicago – slept a few weeks in the park, ‘adopted’ a german shepherd puppy… and when the puppy got sick, took him to a vet… and the vet and his son ‘adopted’ her. 8 years later she has her own business as a licensed masseur.
Damon Devaughn – the son’s vet, her very good friend, an architect looking for a change in focus.
Ceily Brown – diner owner, redesigned her diner after fire… selective – flirts with Damon – who ends up buying her grandfather’s land by the lake with the intention of making a life with her and designing homes that blended in.
Summary:
Emma returns 8 years later because her father has had a stroke – Damon and her dog BB accompanying her. Her car breaks down just outside of town, Casey finds them by the road.
And Emma still loves Casey; and Casey (though he doesn’t call it love at first – afterall she did leave him) is just as fascinated with her. And Casey does all he can to get in her pants, to support her emotionally, and to figure out how to get her to stay. They get close… she comes to live with him after her mother’s behavior gets her kicked out of the hotel…. Casey wants to make a career change… and in the end, when her father is ready to be released (and mom has been in rehabilitation), and she says it’s time to go home, Casey tells her he’s joining her and starting his new business… and that makes it easy for her to say she’ll stay, and they’ll both open businesses in Buckhorn – and of course Damon and Ceily are staying, though Ceily was prepared to go back to Chicago with him. ahhh
Memorable scenes:
Casey taking Emma to his remote cabin, to make love to her…. And then her dog joining them on the bed, sleeping on their feet.
Casey’s cousins (from age 5 – 13) all enthralled with Emma. The 10 year old girl, conspiring with Casey to keep the rest busy (or Damon busy) so that Casey and Emma had alone time.
Emma’s High School rival jealously and mockingly looking down her nose at her massage therapy – saying ‘so that’s what it’s called now?’ … and Emma standing up for herself, referring to the hospital therapists and her own license. And Casey proud of her, though he was more than willing to defend her.
Casey opening up to his full, true feelings for Emma… and Emma trusting Casey with her long felt feelings.

Caught in the Act
Theme: love, trust, mystery

Characters:
Mick Dawson – undercover cop, shoddy childhood – rule follower, as he knows he’s a step away from being on the wrong side, alone; just feels the rightness of Delilah when he first sees her, and he watches her waiting for the opportunity to meet her…
Delilah ‘Del’ Piper – a mystery writer (with a bit of romance). She experiences that which she writes about – for instance, when a car is to careen off a bridge into the river, she takes lessons and experiences it. She has made friends with a criminal – she has shown her some things (picking locks, hotwiring cars) and told her many stories …
Criminal Freddie – he’s dead – murdered, and pushed into a lake.
Zack & Josh – EMT and fireman; Mick’s friends – they were friends with each other first… and all three frequented the same restaurant… and after a few months, and after Mick stopped 4 men from harassing a waitress, they impose themselves on him… until… at first they distrust Del, but quickly take her under their protection also -

Summary:
Del jogs daily, Mick watches her… and sees her go into a jewelry store… he follows her in, intending to introduce himself this time… but 2 suspicious guys come in – start to rob the place in an unorganized way, and when hear police alarms, they go to shoot Del – and Mick covers her and takes the bullet for her.
At the hospital, she sticks around (both because she wants to thank her hero, and because Mick’s friends insist as Mick asked them to keep her), and when he is awake, she goes to him – and can’t stop touching him and even kissing him – it just feels right to her… and his friends are there, and his other 2 friends and their wives show up… and she decides he’s going home with her… and he is satisfied to do so… not just so he can get to know her, and get into her pants – but also to protect her. And for a few weeks, they spend all of their time together… she is writing under a deadline… and they make sweet love (though at first, because of his injury, she does most of the work)… but he told her he was a PI, not a police officer… and when one of the shooters (whom Mick had shot) wakes up, he goes to her – and is told lies about Del which he believes (or at least can’t reasonably disbelieve) so he has her brought in for questioning… and his distrust hurts her tremendously – and his friends knock some sense in him… and they find the cameras in her apartment that gave the shooter the ammunition to confuse Mick… she comes to his home to be safe and to see if they can find each other again… and they do… and their first trip out, they are attacked by another car – Mick hits his head, they take her out at gunpoint… she is afraid for Mick, she runs their car into the river (it is a stunt she has done before) and gets free… and Mick had been on their tail, and is there to pull her out… ahhhh. She forgives, he gets smart… and all is well.

Enticing includes two of my favorite Lori Foster stories. First up: Casey. If you're familiar with Lori's Buckhorn Brothers, then you know Casey. In his story, he's reconnected with childhood friend Emma Clark when she returns to town to tend to her parents. Next up: Caught in the Act where undercover cop Mick explores both mystery and romance with writer, Del Piper. Both stories have wonderfully flawed male leads that you will just love. Both stories are intriguing and I enjoy them each time I re-read them.

I was so looking forward to Casey's story from the Buckhorn brothers series, but felt really let down. It was nice to see Casey as an adult and he was just as wonderful as we knew he would be, but there were some things that really bothered me.

On a couple of different occasions, the little kids (Morgan's, Jordan's and Gabe's) were called Casey's nieces and nephews. WRONG. They are his cousins, not his nieces/nephews. This seemed like a glaring error to me and something that should have certainly been caught in editing and proofreading if not by the author herself.

Secondly, the ages of the little kids was a bit hard to swallow. The story jumps from the family picnic described in Jordan's book to 8 years later, yet we're supposed to believe that Gabe & Elizabeth have a 9 year old daughter? Where was she at the picnic if she was 1 year old? It's made clear in Jordan's book that Gabe & Elizabeth do not have any children, yet 8 years later they have a 9 year old? Shohn is just a baby in Jordan's book, but 8 years later he's 10? Amber is almost 2 in Jordan's book and in Casey's she's 11? The math of the kids ages just really bothered me. It would have been very simple to adjust Casey's book to 9 years later or 10 years later if they wanted the kids to be these ages, or make the kids a little younger. Seem like another thing that should have easily been caught in editing.

All that being said, I did love seeing the 4 brothers and their families and how Casey was still such a vital part of the family even after going to college and having a professional career. Emma was a nice character as we had briefly met her in Jordan's book, but now she's all grown up and has a story of her own. I was still a little unclear on exactly what her father's part of her running away was and whether or not he knew the pregnancy was a lie.

Even with my picky little points, it was still a great book and I loved being a ble to finish the series by seeing Casey grow up and getting updated on all the brothers lives 8 years later.

As for the second book in Enticing, it was nice. Good, but not great. I will read more Lori Foster though.

This review is only for the Buckhorn Brothers story. I don't read the other series and I don't want to start with the last book in the series.

I wondered how Casey's story would go. He seemed like such a good kid in all the other books. I will admit that I didn't think much of Emma, I thought about her what the town did. It is too bad I did as after learning the facts of her life, Emma really deserved a break.

I loved that she felt that she could go to Casey and his family, that their house would be a safe place for her. It is too bad that she couldn't have stayed there, but I do think if she did she wouldn't have been allowed to become a different person.

It wasn't surprising that the attraction between Casey and Emma fell right back into place when they would meet again. I loved that Casey wanted to pick up where they left off, but Emma was more guy shy. She never made any apologies for her past, and really why should she. In fact she explained things to Casey at one point that had me very much agreeing with her.

I also loved Casey's family. They are such a close knit bunch that there was no way that they all wouldn't weigh in on things. Whether they would tell Casey was the only wonder. One of the best scenes was when all the brothers gathered around the grill to gossip about Casey and Emma.

Damon was a surprise, he was great in that Emma had support she needed. The side romance with Cecily was fun. I loved all the statements at the end when it looked like things were headed back to Chicago.

All in all this was a great way to end the series!

I liked both of these books - Casey and Caught in the Act.
Casey Hudson is from Buckhorn Kentucky. He is Sawyer, the doctor's son. When he is a teen, he had some feelings for the town bad girl Emma. One night her father dropped her off at the Hudson's house, claiming Casey has gotten her pregnant. But he did not. Emma told them she lied to her father. She wasn't pregnant. He and his family wanted to help her. They knew something was wrong but did not know what the problem was. The next morning, Emma was gone.
Eight years later, she comes back to Buckhorn because he father fell and broke his ankle. Casey still had feelings for Emma and he was not going to let her get away again! But she has secrets. Will the secrets keep them apart?

Caught in the Act is about a cop named Mick. He had been seeing this woman in his neighborhood. He was attracted to her. One day he saw her out running. She went into a jewelry store after he run. He chased after her. He wanted to meet her. Just after he gets in the store, robbers come in. Right before they leave Mick sees they are going to shoot the woman. He jumps on top of her and gets shot. He manages to shoot one of them before other police get there. He goes to the hospital. The woman is named Delilah. He wants her and she wants him. They begin a relationship but Mick needs to solve the robbery and why the men tried to kill her. Things get in the way and Del and Mick almost lose each other.

These were good books to read! I enjoyed them.

Enticing: The Buckhorn Brothers: Casey\Caught In The Act by Lori Foster is two tales in one. The first: The Buckhorn Brothers: Casey: centers around the son of Sawyer Hudson and I really enjoyed it. Emma Clark was spunky and independant. The interaction between the two was... well... hot. (Lori writes such terrific love scenes.) They are filled with so much passion and steam!

Caught in the Act was fabulous. The connection between the two leads was undeniable. I adored the heroine. There's nothing that makes a story better than a strong, sweet, beautiful, honest heroine (although i do think she forgave the hero to quickly after his betrayal). Fun and sexy, this is a must read!

This is a reissue of an old Lori Foster story.
The amazing Lori Foster can always pull me in and make me feel good.
She has a way of making even the most depressing stuff seem surmountable.
Small town wonders. Damaged heroine, strong hero, and great story line.
This book actually contains 2 stories.
One of my favorite things is the dog.
When authors put in a favorite pet, and makes it one of the characters,
it usually hooks me!
If you're looking for a sweet and satisfying romance, with very mild
angst, I highly recommend Lori Foster's Buckhorn Brothers books.
Lori really nails the best of mid-west small town life.

Liked both stories... they are what I would consider hopeless romantic. I'm a romantic for sure but these two were a little beyond even for me. The plot could have been more invovled. I really liked how the Buckhorn Brothers:Casey started out but it was a little of a let down from there.

As for caught in the act, I'm big on cops/pi types but there was so little of it in the story line I was a bit let down.

Romances were great, but both could have used more "something" to help carry them.

I didn't read the whole thing, I only read the 1st part that was the story about Casey, so I could finish off the Buckhorn series.
UPDATE
Ok now that I read the second story in the book I can honestly say that I recommend reading the WHOLE book! I love the characters in 'Caught in the act' as well, I just wish I would have known it was part of another series as well so I could have read them in order. Oh well still loved it.

Good reading

Okay so for me there were some fantastical parts, but when you read a good book it's not something you get upset about. The escape into the world where true love exists even though the most unreasonable of situations is sweet.
Happy to have read this and will continue with this author.

It has two stories.
The first one is the continuation of the Buckhorn Brothers, with Casey, Sawyer's son.
REALLY good! Loved "seeing" everyone.

The second is apparently part of a series, but I'm not sure which one. I'm going to have to find out, because it was really good.

YES ANOTHER 10! I really enjoyed the first story, but the second was my favorite. I just hope I can find that there are other stories to go along with this & it's not just a stand alone. I'd like to believe there were 2 prior to this one & 2 more to follow it. Look out I'm looking for them ASAP.

A great finish to a great series.
I'm almost ashamed to say I've been in love with Casey since Sawyers story and since he was just 15 @ the time I'm a bit embarassed.
