This was a decent book of interesting summery cocktail recipes. The photos of many of the cocktails were good, and the instructions of basic tools and appliances to have on hand was useful. I would caution, however, that this is a fairly advanced drink guide; many of the liquors and other elements to create the beverages are unfamiliar or specific to the individual cocktails. One page of two recipes alone calls for "punt e mes", "aperol" and "cynar". Not exactly household names. Finally, the names of the cocktails, while quite amusing and interesting, were not given any explanation, which would have been nice. A useful addition to a collection, but somewhat specialized.

Okay, I've exhausted the nice things I have to say about this book. From the smarmy introduction to the insanely complicated recipes, this book adds nothing to the canon.

Usually there's at least one recipe in any given book that sounds palatable but there was nothing at all appealing here. My search for the summer pool party theme drink continues, as the word on the street is that the populace is bored with DH's frozen margarita, which has been a staple for years.

I like reading books about cocktails, and I am particularly interested in the newer mixologists who are bringing such strange ingredients into the mix like chilies or herbs. Beautifully photographed little book. Many easy to make cocktails with those newer innovative features.

Looks fun but on further review, unusual ingredients are sometimes needed. Can't be bothered. Give me a good ole mojito ANY day.
