One of the best how to paint and draw guides I've come across in a while.

Draw and Paint Fantasy Art - Vampires seems to be somewhat obscure/difficult to find in 2013 (in case people read this in the future). I haven't seen it in stores and it was hidden away on Amazon even. Thankfully, I think it is a pretty good book and is useful for intermediate to advanced artists.
The book has a pretty useful opening section with some good information on shading that I haven't seen elsewhere. Scott Purdy explains digital art in more detail than other books too which is cool. While few people buy an art book for the introductory information, this one is definitely above average. The style of art is interesting and unique. It is kind of shlocky, a touch of cartooning, and a little realistic too. Purdy is really good at drawing the "Nosferatu" style vampire. It is definitely not for someone interested in the more realistic and Gothic vampire however.
This book has nice step-by-step guides for the following vampires: Dracula, Cheerleader, Dr. Nosferatu, Brawling Vamp, Voodoo Vampire, Mistress Vampire, Lupine Vampire, Spring Heeled Jack, Bat Vampire, Vampire Hunter. Some of these I really liked and wanted to draw right away while others weren't my style or didn't grab me. Your results will obviously vary based on taste. One thing I really love is that the book is equally split between drawing and painting. It annoys me when I buy a drawing book and it ends up focusing way more on painting. The vampires look reasonable to draw but are actually a good challenge for most artists. I've tried three vampires and only one of them turned out really well.
If you are at all interested in the horror movie style of vampire (like the kind on the cover) then I would highly recommend this book. It is unique, unique, challenging, and might just help you learn a thing or two too.

series of vampires as step by step projects. Unfortunately as the introduction covers pencil drawing, painting and digital art, the suggestions on how to work on each step felt confusing - it wasn't clear to me whether paint or digital techniques were to be used.
