since I'm as much a fan of nice patios (i.e., spaces to have friends over to eat, drink and be merry) this book satisfies the design elements of a garden in such a way that it presents you with many options and is helpful in figuring out which one might be right for you (or rather, your patio garden).

Split into a number of sections: patio design, patio construction, planting the patio, furnishing, general care and maintenance
Design section has sketch illustrations supporte dby lots of photos.
Construction section basic but useful and planting section fairly basic but with a list of useful patio plants.
Furnishing and maintenance pretty basic sections line drawings and text.
