Basics about herbs.

An informative look about herbs. It gets 3 stars instead of four because the second half is just a cook book

I've read a lot of introductory herb garden books in my time, and this one is... pretty good for what it is. I wouldn't say it's exactly special, but it does concentrate on herbs you can use in cooking, and making some pretty gardens from them. (The pictures are very pretty-- the author works with Country Living, which just shows.) Where it scores above, say, other slim picture-packed volumes in this genre is the recipes, which are not silly and actually kinda useful without being boring. Also, it's the only volume of its kind that suggests making herbed vodka. So, I guess I'm going to have to buy myself a copy.

A nice little book on the cultivation of herbs. It gives very little detail on any specific herb but offers adequate general knowledge for the beginner. Lovely pictures. I got the book from my library. I would not purchase it as it offered me no new information about herb cultivation.

Can't wait to get digging! So far we are planning to add thyme, mint, basil, cilantro, asturtium, oregano and rosemary to our already growing sage, catnip, chamomile and dill!
