Taking Sides volumes present current controversial issues in a debate-style format designed to stimulate student interest and develop critical thinking skills. Each issue is thoughtfully framed with an issue summary, an issue introduction, and a postscript or challenge questions. Dr. James E. Harf was a teacher of political science.
After college, Harf taught math and democracy and coached football at Bridgeville High School, and received his M.A. in Political Science from the University of Delaware. In 1960, inspired by the election of John F. Kennedy, he decided study the cold war, and left teaching to pursue his Ph.D. in Political Science and Russian Studies at Indiana University.
In 1969, Harf began teaching at Ohio State University and stayed until his retirement in 2001.
