The Curtis Reincarnation

Rate this book
Jordan's got a good life. He's got his own web business, a fat cat for a pet and his own house, which he shares with his sister -- oh well, nothing's perfect. Also not perfect is not having someone special to share his life with. His sister Rebecca believes it's because he's too picky and too unapproachable, but Jordan just wants someone to do the Sunday crossword with, take walks with, someone who'll be his mate for life. Is that really too much to ask?

One night Rebecca drags Jordan to a Tyler Curtis concert. Tyler is a notorious bad boy who treats his audience with contempt and sleeps with a different groupie every night, and Rebecca is determined to be tonight's groupie. Jordan is there under protest. At least he is until he meets the man beneath the crass, bad boy image. Will Jordan get to know the true Tyler or will Tyler's manager and a world wanting the man to match the image conspire against them?

Zathyn Priest

Zathyn Priest is an Australian writer with severe vampiric tendencies. Absolutely convinced the sun could turn him to a pile of ash, Zathyn prefers to write under the cover of darkness. This serves two purposes, with the first being the afore mentioned sunlight danger, and the second being the fact that nighttime means no annoying phones ringing or people knocking at the door.

Zathyn has written three published novels using this strange moonlight technique. The Curtis Reincarnation, which is now available in paperback. The Slayer’s Apprentice, soon to be available in paperback. And, Liquid Glass, soon to be available from Torquere Press. He has also written two short fiction works. Left of Center, available from Torquere Press, and One of Those Days, an eBook downloadable from www.zathynpriest.com - because even though Zathyn has vampiric traits, he’s actually quite a nice guy and wrote One of Those Days as a freebie.

When Zathyn isn’t writing, or running for cover before sunlight turns him to cinders, he likes to pretend he’s really good at playing his MIDI keyboard. Thankfully, Zathyn is a conscientious neighbour. Rather than drive the street insane with repeated renditions of Greensleeves, he uses headphones because, let’s face it, no matter how beautiful Greensleeves is, most people don’t want to hear it one hundred times a night.

Zathyn lives with a retired greyhound called Chrissy, who lives the life of luxury sleeping away most of her days on the sofa and generally only waking up when there’s food around or if it’s time for a walk. There’s also a cat called Fran, who doesn’t like Chrissy very much and feels she should reiterate this fact by occasionally smacking her in the face. Just when you thought the household couldn’t get any stranger, there’s a duck - or drake, he’d probably rather be called - named Charlie who originally lived on a farm, but moved in with Zathyn after a fox ate all his girlfriends and was eying Charlie for dessert.

Guys, I just can't today.

Everyone loves this book. I can't even tell you the number of my friends that have this on their all-time favorites list. But aside from Bec, who was pretty freaking awesome, I couldn't stand this book.

I'll sum it up for you in one sentence: Fastest insta-love I've read in a long time. I mean, less than two days to I love you and less than 4 for an ? That has to be some kind of record!!

As anyone who knows my reading taste knows, I can't stand insta-love. I loathe it. But insta-love followed by has to be a new low for me.

I'm sure most readers found this to be very romantic, but all the cutesy nicknames and Alec acting like a 12 year old girl was a real mood-killer for me. There is a LOT of squealing and giggling, folks. I get that Alec was emotionally stunted and isolated, but that didn't make it any better for me.

Combine that with the soap opera-ish plot and you've totally lost me. It reminded me of how much I hated another fan favorite, The Heart of Texas.

Oh! And the head hopping... how could I forget that! This book has a sort of omniscient POV, so we are in multiple characters' heads at the same time. I HATE anything but 1st or 3rd person point of view, and I only like POV changes if they are well delineated.

Can you tell this didn't work for me? I'm going to quit complaining now...

The Curtis Reincarnation by Zathyn Priest was almost a blind buy for me. I had read a brief interview about the author, and thought I would give it a shot. I am very glad I did! Not only was The Curtis Reincarnation a fast paced, sweet and loving romance, I really felt a connection between all of the characters. They were interesting and well developed, they all (including the secondary characters) were someone I would be proud to be friends with.

I would not consider this an Erotic Romance. I would put this under more of a sensual romance, which was totally fine with me. Between the storyline and the chemistry between the heroes, I honestly didn’t miss the erotic sex much. Don’t get me wrong, there is sex in this story, but not a lot of it, nor is it very explicit. You won’t miss it, believe me.

Jordan Braxton is an everyday average guy. He successfully works from home has a sister (who is also his roommate) who drives him crazy, owns a cat named Furball, and is looking for his one true love. When his sister wins concert tickets, and an after show meet and greet party, to see the very famous Tyler Curtis, Jordan is not impressed. Tyler is obnoxious, crude and has a reputation with the ladies that would make the Pope weep with shame. Jordan can’t stand him, and thinks his behavior is despicable. When Jordan’s sister begs, pleads and bribes for Jordan to go with her, he reluctantly gives in.

From the moment he witnesses Tyler in concert he is intrigued. Yes, Tyler is crass and curses like a sailor, but his obvious talent and huge persona on stage fascinates Jordan in spite of his dislike for the singer.

After the concert Jordan and his sister attend a meet and greet. While Jordan sits off to the side, he spots Tyler standing in the wings. Tyler starts doing some uncharacteristic things (you’ll have to read it) and Jordan becomes more and more attractive to the now mysterious Tyler. Tyler obviously thinks he cannot be seen, but when he spots Jordan watching him there is a connection that sizzles between them before Tyler disappears behind the stage.

Confused by his sudden change of heart for the hugely successful singer, Jordan decides to wander around the hotel the meet and greet is at. After some time, he runs into Tyler and he gets his chance to talk with the rock star alone. The more he is around Tyler, the more Jordan realizes that the bad ass rock star image Tyler has obtained starts to crumble. They form an immediate connection, and Jordan and Tyler soon fall head over heels for one another.

I loved Tyler. He ended up being such a sweet man. I thought he was a refreshing character. I don’t want to get into much about him because I really don’t want to spoil it, but his innocence (yes I said innocence) and the trials he goes through, made him a character that was easy to root for, and stand behind. I thought he and Jordan were made for one another, and even though they fall in love practically at first sight, there is enough angst to make their story interesting and so SWEET to read.

I loved this story, and I am looking forward to reading more written by this author! This was easily a 5 star read for me.

This story just didn't work for me: absurdly contrived plot, one-dimensional MCs, whiplash-inducing insta love (strangers to lovers/partners to engaged in two DAYS), and ridiculously cookie-cutter villains.

There is some cuteness here, yes. The HEA was ovation worthy (literally).

BUT:

~~ RANT IS MILDLY SPOILERISH ~~

- Jordan's sister, Bec, was 25 going on 15 (holy shit, immature much?)

- How does Jordan afford a flat in London if he doesn't have a job?

- How the hell did Tyler's (Alec's) manager manage to keep the world's most famous rockstar a prisoner for two years? Did no one notice? What about band members? Makeup artists? PR people? Security? Record label executives? Producers? Studio staff? NOPE, not buying it.

- It made no sense that the manager would withhold Alec's medication if he wanted to hide Alec's epilepsy from the media.

- The whole side story with Bad Mommy was so predictable.

- The occasional POV shifts to the manager or Taylor the reporter or the Bad Mommy were confusing and unnecessary. It's such a lazy way to tell a story.

- Almost no steam. Alec is the most innocent of virgins, but his deflowering is OFF PAGE. One chapter ends with Alec begging Jordan to make love to him and two chapters later there's a reference to them having made love so many times. This was news to me!

It's hard to feel the passion and romance when nearly all the lovin' is invisible.

Also, for such a naive little virgin who never even masturbated before meeting The One, Alec sure hit aggressive and in charge going 180 mph. WHOA.

After much badgering and pressure of the good kind, yes you Dee! I was happily immersed in the lives of Alec and Jordan and what a journey it was drama, rage, despair but most of all there was a glimmer of hope that kept me going. Sweet darling Alec a tormented soul he was like a kicked puppy starved of affection, my heart broke for him. I was so damn happy when Jordan arrived on the scene because we get this slow beautiful change in Alec it's a joy to see. Jordan brings about so many wonderful positives and for that I loved him to bits along with the teasing and laugh out loud moments, lovely!

I couldn't stand Bec a spoilt, selfish little brat I had no time for her at all she got on my nerves. Frank the heartless freak he got what was coming to him although I wanted lots more torture and suffering! Leanne no words can express my hatred for her.

Oh and I better not forget to mention the peeves there's instant love, naive virgin, marriage proposal, tears etc but I couldn't of cared less it worked because there was a small believability factor for me and the MC's were cute and adorable its a love story we can all dream cant we.

This book has been added to my all time top 10 favorites list. When I read Lori's review (the other Lori) where she said she shied away from this book because she heard it was light on the sex, I was afraid I'd be disappointed too. Not a "turgid shaft" in sight and I didn't miss it at all. I do love a good deflowering scene but I was okay with not being a fly on the wall for this one. When a book makes me tear up that's a sure sign I've totally bonded with the characters and I teared up quite a few times while reading this one. Don't let the lack of graphic sex sway you from reading this book. You will get so caught up in the story and fall so deeply in love with the characters that you won't miss it.

I loved this book when I first read it in 2013 and it has become one of my favorite rock star novels ever!! And after reading it a second time…..loved it even more!!!!
This is one of those stories that stay with you for a very long time.
This is one of those must-read m/m love stories.

A great storyline, unforgettable and quirky and totally endearing characters, emotion, love and an engaging HEA!

Meet Tyler Curtis, bad boy rock star and all the traits that go with that image..drugs, sex, bad behavior…… But underneath the image created by his abusive and controlling manager, is a person on the brink of a meltdown. The real Tyler is a sad, lonely, abused, unloved, manipulated person.

Jordan is confident and a bit uptight and is still looking to find someone to share his very organized and quiet life. Coerced by his sister to attend a rock concert…so not his thing….he’s about to find that his life is never going to be what he was looking for or expecting.
The first time Tyler and Jordan meet after the concert in the most unlikely place is an unforgettable and amazing scene…..

It’s worth reading this book even if it’s for that scene!!! It’s a scene that remains in my memory forever….It’s funny, it’s sweet and totally ENDEARING!!!

A number of reviewers have mentioned the insta-love thing…for me, I was okay with that….after all, anything is possible…..and the fact that there wasn’t much sex on the pages…so no turgid shafts and K-jelly….well, that was okay too….after all, used my imagination!!!! It’s a change from some books that are filled with pages and pages of sex just for the sex factor…!!!
This is a love story!

Well, I really enjoyed this story, well thought out, imaginative and romantic

Gothic rock superstar Tyler Curtis is something of a musical prodigy. He's only twenty years old, but for the last two years, he has had the music world in an uproar with his good looks, his abrasive personality, hard drinking and drugs, and his ceaseless womanizing. His fans adore him, and women throw themselves at him constantly.

When Jordan Braxton's sister Rebecca wins two tickets to a Tyler Curtis concert, she insists that he accompany her. She has her sights set on bagging and bedding the delectable Mr. Curtis, and figures that any female companion would just be unwelcome competition, so takes her brother Jordan along with her, even though he can't stand Tyler Curtis. At the concert wrap party, he sees a Tyler Curtis that is completely unlike his rock god persona. The man he meets is shy, sweet, and friendly, and although he has always had a reputation of being cold and somewhat stand-offish with strangers, Jordan is bewitched by the younger man. It takes only a little conversation, a shared pizza, and a kissing session for him to fall completely in love, which admittedly is quick, but hey, it does happen!

He may appear tough on the outside, but Alec Tyler aka Tyler Curtis is actually a fragile soul. Orphaned at seventeen, verbally and physically abused by his manager, cut off from the world and forced to play a role, Alec is overworked, exhausted, and hungry for friendship. It doesn't take much for him to fall for Jordan, who treats him like a person, and doesn't abuse him; however, fate contrives to make life difficult for them. Someone is trying to extort millions of dollars out of the young musician, and they are not above preying on Alec's weaknesses to do so. In addition, Alec suffers from epilepsy which has steadily been getting worse, and as Jordan begins to help Alec find his way out of this nasty situation, the world comes crashing down around them in a different way, threatening not only Alec's career but also his life.

The author has created a cast of characters in this novel that will grab your affections from the get go, and his villains are so rotten that, as with pantomime villains, you will love to hate them. Indeed, I've no doubt you'll be plotting revenge on them as much as I was!! And of course, it just goes to show that you should never judge a book (or person) by it's cover!!

Let me count the ways on the elements that made me roll my eyes in this book: Instant love and marriage proposal in under 48 hours (yeah, right!). Check. Overused "I love you". Check. Guys with tears in more than numerous scenes. Check. Far stretched out virginity cases (come on, being 20 years old, and not even touched himself?!). Check.

I can get that this is a fiction that borders to fairy tale -- but it's too much for me. When it is supposed to make me feel sympathy, all I want is to get it over with. The only thing that redeem the story is the witty dialogs. Since I know Zathyn Priest's work from his recent stories, I'm glad that he is getting better. I just see this as a nice debut ... and happy that this is not my first experience with him

I loved this book.

I adored Alec, who was snarky but incredibly sweet. Jordan had me laughing and omg...the instalove! Okay. It's not a trope that I love but it really, really worked for me here. Becs was awful but she cracked me up.

I've already read this book several times. So over the top the places but it got me emotional. I CANNOT wait for the sequel. If I could give it more than five stars I would.

I hold my hands up and admit I'm an emotional reader. I laugh and giggle out loud when a book's funny and I blubber like a baby when a story is sad or bittersweet. I always fall for my MC's, always get lost in their stories and generally " boo hiss " with a vengeance at the baddies! I did all the latter in this compelling book but my god did I do some serious boo hissing at a few of the characters - You know who you are ...but Ahh... Revenge is sweet - and for one butt clenchingly painfull !! No.. Not telling, read it. Lol!

This starts as a typical goth/rock star meets ordinary Joe and it sort of lulls you into thinking you know exactly where its going to lead but dont be fooled... the book twists and turns and plays your preconceptions like a fiddle!
There are quite a few Hmmm moments and sometimes the story moves into overdrive on the drama but somehow all these are overridden by the sheer enjoyment of the main love story between two really adorable guys who stole my heart. :) There are some really fantastic scenes between them, a favourite one being when Jordan first sees Curtis Tyler out of character, dancing in the wings unbeknown to anyone watching. Also when he's in Curtis mode on stage with his fans its electric!

Curtis or Alec (his real name ) is a fabulously multi layered character who you can't help but love and want to protect with his adoreable lisp and ' split personality ' and Jordan is his perfect foil. He is Alec's rock and support and helps Alec to break free and become the person he truly wants to be despite the negative influences in his life. Their insta love happens fast ( literally ) and is one of the Hmm moments but once they are together, its magic so I'll hold judgement ...
And then there's Bec- mouthy, gratingly annoying and mad as a box of frogs! I spent most of the book in a bit of a love/hate relationship with her, but she's certainly unforgettable and I guess by the end she grudgingly grew on me. Add in some other strong supporting characters and you've got a really compelling story.
So summing it all up , all I can say is I loved, loved, loved it and its won its place with all my other Keepers .

To quote Alec “There’s so many things
going through my mind right now and I’m not sure I can put any of it into words".

This book took me on a roller coaster of emotions. As well as satisfying my craving for a rock star story, it also delivered on the romance, intrigue, drama, comedy and heartbreak.

Tyler Curtis is not your average rock star. He has so much more depth than most. His story is truely heartbreaking. Jordan is just perfect as the rock Alec needs to hold onto, and despite my anoyance with her at times, Becs always managed to leave me laughing.

Frank? well lets just say what happened to him could not of happened to a more deserving slimeball.

As for Leanne, you will have to read about her yourself.

Were there times I found myself questioning things? yes occasionally but this is fiction at its best. The story was so well done that those times just didn't register long enough to even be classed as a niggle.

Would not hesitate to recomend this book to anyone that enjoys Rockers with heart oh and attitude lol.

The Curtis Reincarnation was my first Zathyn Priest book. Normally I don’t fall in love with an author from one book. But this my friends was the exception to that rule. I didn’t just fall in love. Hell, no. I fell into obsession with this book and its characters. It might sound a bit juvenile, but it’s the honest to God truth. I’m not so sure how you would describe it, but here goes.

I found myself starting off enjoying this. You meet Jordan and Bec, who are brother and sister. They are Australians who moved to the UK. Bec has an obsession with Tyler Curtis and wants to go to one of his concerts. But is afraid to bring a friend in case he fancies her instead of Bec. So Jordan, the older brother is asked. He is not a fan nor is he interested in going. But Bec does convince him to go albeit reluctantly and there he meets the infamous Tyler Curtis.

Alec, aka. Tyler Curtis is not what Jordan was expecting. I laughed during their first meeting so many times. It was both funny and sweet with the awkwardness and left me smiling through those few pages on my kindle. Jordan, being openly gay ends up saying a few things that Alec takes as come on’s. In a roundabout way, they are. But Jordan is not quite as forward as Alec takes him for, even though he did say a few things that could be seen as being very forward. If you catch my drift. Neither man really know the other, but that soon changes.

That first night they kiss. It doesn’t go much farther than that, but it’s the beginning of something really beautiful. We learn a lot about Alec. His father, the man who sounded like such a loving and caring man. The mother who abandoned him and Frank, the asshole manager. Alec is epileptic. That was something that could have gone so horribly wrong in the story. Some authors (experienced or not) can mess up serious topics. But Zathyn does a wonderful job at portraying Alec.

The interactions with Bec brought some humour. Humour was the one thing this book needed. It has the ability to rip your heart out and feed it to you, but it’s also beautiful and funny. I found it hard to read at times and then I would find myself wanting more. Not in a bad way, the book wasn’t lacking in anything. It was just so good. I felt the need to read more. A couple of scenes in particular broke my heart. The one where Jordan was at Alec’s bedside was just… I have no real words for that one, and I am not an emotional person normally, but some books just have a strong hold on me.

To sum up my feelings on this book would be really hard. It’s emotional, sure. But it’s also funny and witty. It’s not a depressing book that will make you feel like you just read something that was… Meh. It had emotion and a beautiful love story with two well thought out protagonists. The secondary characters tied into the story and made it what this was.

I highly recommend this book to all fans of the author and of mm romance. This is just one of those books that will stay with you.

So... after a long two days pondering

I think I could try to say something about this book

Why for me it's so hard to talk about it? Probably because I cherish the characters so much I don't want to write a lame review, or something that would made you have second thoughts... I read it just now, 2011, and it has been there in the market from 2008... so well, what I can say is don't do my same mistake and don't wait NEITHER a second! If you got it, READ IT immediately!

About the cuteness of the story
Oh yes, it's a instant love romance, full of cuteness and awwwwww moments. Just an example

yeah... that kind of awwwwww feeling you had looking the cute pup and the adult dog... or wolf?... Anyway, yes, Alec and Jordan love story is really SO CUTE I think all romantic readers would never be disappointed with this book.
An example of the CUTENESS of it, but in a spoiler box, is Alec speech

HELLL YEAH! Alec is CUTE!!!!

About the humor of the story
Hummmm... let's say it's VERY funny... I love Jordan sister, Bec. OMG she is soooo damn funny! She crack jokes all the time, even when she is having a serious talk. It was a very wise choice of the writer, add not just two lovely main characters, but also remarkable ones like Bec!
BTW, Bec reaction to Alec being gay was something like that...
I love it... really love the humor of this book.

And finally, the sadness of this story, really broken my heart
This book is more than just any romance... it's a masterpiece also for its deep message.
Alec suffer, humiliation, pain.... Jordan desperation trying to help... I can't say more or would spoil the story, but just one thing I can use as example. At one moment I just stop reading to go to the bathroom and cry splashing my face... it's brutal... after so many pages, and caring so much about Alec and Jordan you will have to be strong, and keep reading... because even if everything seems lost, and there is no hope, love is strong than anything... and Alec love for Jordan, and vice versa, is what will give you the push to keep reading, and finish the book.
and nope... I'm not a drama queen
[image error]
read it and you will know how sad it also can be.
hummm no wait, sorry... I must admit I'm a drama queen
[image error]
BUT I swear it's true! It will make you cry!

So, lastly but not less important remark: thank you from the bottom of my heart Fiona! Your recommendation really surprise me, and show me that no matter how many books we read, there are always more amazing books waiting to be read. We must keep close dear friends, and listen to their advices. Thank you for this recommendation, and very glad I took you seriously, and read this book immediately, after you blackmail me recommend it :D

5 stars, and I can't wait to the next book (it will be out in 2012!)

I have to admit I didn't like this at all.. And I'm kinda wondering how this can be number 1 on the "gay tear jerker" list? I'm pretty known for crying over every freaking book, but this one? Not even a single teary eyed moment...

It was just all a bit.. Too much? Or something like that.

I found the story too unbelievable.. I mean. Jordan and Alec? What was that? At first I felt like he was almost taking advantage of the poor virgin boy.. You tell him you love him after a day? Seriously? You ask him to marry you after 3 days? Are you fucking kidding me? Excuse me while I gag..

I don't know, I tried to like it, it was just not for me, I guess..

When I read the blurb of this book I had to buy it: young devilish rock star in love? shy computer geek who is mesmerized by the lure of the show business? hot sex from night one? yes, it seemed another of that "show business" novel I like so much, full of scandal and spoiled naughty young artist in love... and I was wrong! No, not since I didn't like it, I'm up at 2 at night since I can't give up the book till I reached the last page... I was wrong since this is not a glittering love story for paparazzi.

Right, Jordan is a bit of a geek, he is a 28 years old software gay engineering and his target in life is to build a comfy nest for another lovebird... there is the little problem that Jordan's expectation in a partner are quite high and till now no one has measured up to them. But Jordan is willing to wait, he is in no hurry. Have you started to realize that Jordan is not an easily impressionable man? And so he is less than happy when his sister forces him to be her chaperon on the hottest rock concert of the season, a live performance of Tyler Curtis; from what Jordan knows, Tyler is a spoiled badmouthed rock star with a rotten attitude and the habit to sleep with a different groupie every night.

On the scene Tyler is good, but all the circus around him is so tiring that on the following party, Jordan is only searching a way to escape. And far from the crowd he meets Tyler... actually no, he meets Alec, the real "Curtis". Alec is a barely 20 years old man with the behavior of a teen and the innocence of a baby. Due to an health problem, Alec was abandoned by his mother and sheltered by his father; when the father suddenly passed away, Alec felt almost captive of a selfish manager who treats him like a puppet. The real talented Alec was hidden to allow the birth of Tyler, a man Alec himself despise.

Alec is all Jordan's dreamed off: sincere and trustful, naivee till embarrassment, all blushing and sweetness... he is so innocent that "virgin" is not quite enough to describe him. Suddenly Jordan is fiercely protective for the man who seems to be the lovebird missing to his nest. The author manages to turn the tables in all I was expecting: it's not Jordan who is swept away in a world that he didn't know and let him helpless, it's Alec who is the "damsel in distress"; it's not an erotic and naught love story, on the contrary, the sex is almost chaste and always behind closed doors if not for only once time; it's not a funny romp, sometime it's almost a drama.

I was well aware in some part of the story that the author was pushing on the moving button, while reading some scene, I was really thinking, here he is, now he pushes the right button and he is sure to have the reader in tears... and I was in tears! I couldn't help myself. All right, it was only a moment, and after all the story is more sweet and tender than dramatic, but nevertheless I poured one tear or two.

So if you want to read a very unusual gay romance, with a very fresh and young style, The Curtis Reincarnation by Zathyn Priest is on my recommendation list; I don't know how old Zathyn Priest is, but I would bet that he is young, since his novel has a very young feeling.

I am incredibly glad that I read The Slayer's Apprentice before I read this one. If I hadn't, I may have written Priest off too soon, and that would have been a tragedy. This book made me realize I need to give authors a few more chances to hit their stride and/or find their voice. (I've been knocked down quite a few pegs by books lately. Awesome.)

This had all the bones of something good, but got bogged down under itself. Mainly, the author's infatuation with the lead character, Alec. Personally, I think it's just because it's Priest's first novel. But the book needed a few good cuttings, some spell checking, and a bit of grounding. It does have angst in spades. I admit, I teared up a bit. I also laughed. Some of the scenes and lines are pretty funny. The lead character, Alec, is really quite lovable, so I can see why Priest was infatuated. He created a very adorable guy. A bit over the top, but adorable. His counterpart, Jordan, was also very likable and strong. I admired Jordan quite a lot. The villains were vile and nasty. The side characters added to the story in good ways.

I think Priest really knows his stuff in the emotional/mental health department. He gives his characters their traits and actions based on their issues. Because of this, technically it's good, but I think a reader not versed in it may not cotton on as quick. I know I was left with a raised eyebrow at some of Alec's actions. But, in the end, Priest tells us the why of it and it all makes sense.

It tasted an awful lot like a Gary Stu, but it was still, more often than not, enjoyable. It was cute, sweet, angsty, and funny. Not a light book, by any means, but still a light read, really. Like an involving soap opera. I'd recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good romance, with a heap of angst, and a beat-the-odds-and-won-it-all ending. If you like kicked orphans who find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, this is definitely for you!

I finished this book early this morning but couldn’t sit and write a review for it. I thought for a while that maybe I wouldn’t that I would just give it a 5 star rating and leave it at that but in the end I couldn’t I had to say something.
I don’t know where to begin with my review of this wonderful, wonderful story. Normally I stay away from reading any reviews until I’ve written mine so I don’t take anything anyone else has written, but with this one, I needed to, I had to know what other people thought first and I found anything that I can say or would like to say has been said, so I will just add a little that is completely my feeling and opinion.

I cried through most of it, the happy parts and sad parts, sometimes just teary other times all out sobbing, especially the part that hit a little too close to home. Jordan and Alec are such great MC’s and so perfect for each other. Bec...well she was probably one character I could never warm up too. She was funny at times and loyal to her brother but mostly I found her childish and annoying not enough to ruin my sheer pleasure and torture of reading this book but enough I noticed it.

Frank was scum, got what he deserved and that is all I’ll say about him, there you just need to read the book and judge for yourself, the same with Leanne not a word about her either!!!

There were a few small things I thought could have been done better but even those didn’t stop me from loving this beautiful love story! It’s a story I will read over and over again, such a simple one, but for some reason something I know I will never forget.

Zathyn Priest you have written the most amazing story....thank you!

This is a tough one to review. I started reading and I was not "grabbed" by the beginning. Then the insta-love came in and I felt annoyed. (Now I can see why people hate when this happens.) Then little event after event involving said "insta-love" and it aggravated me even more. EXCEPT.... if you take that out, this is a rockin' book. (No pun intended.)

Alec/Tyler is a completely endearing character! Yes, he can be childish sometimes, but I think it fits in perfectly with his character. He is sweet and seeing how he's undergone some deep shit, I FEEL for him and can understand why Jordan fell for him. (Although, a slower build-up would have been more believable.) INSTANT lust and desire maybe, but all-out LOVE and marriage was a bit much. Even with this, and I felt agitated over the insta-love often, I could still only knock it back a half star. (I wish goodreads did half stars)

WHY you ask? The rest of it was so good that even when I wanted to notch it back to 4 stars or 3.5, something else came along to crank my enjoyment right back up! It is FUNNY. And Mr. Priest has a way of throwing in some curve balls that I couldn't predict. (I love authors who do that.) And a few sad parts that made me tear up. The plot was great!

I was not a fan of the POV shifts! Every other sentence was getting worse than when SJ Frost did it. Still - not enough to give it a bad rating. The pluses out weight the negatives. Worth reading, and I will re-read for sure!! This book is on so many "lists" for good reason. It is good!

I highly recommend it!

Again, I seem to be totally behind the times in reading this, so I'm getting on it. :)
3.75*
I liked a lot of this book, I liked Alec finally breaking free and becoming who he really is, I like that the bad guys and gals got their just desserts, I liked that Bec went from 'omg can I just stab her with a spoon' to actually pretty cool, I liked the fairy tale aspects of Prince Charmimg coming to the rescue of the damsel or in this case rocker in distress, I liked the cat. I believe the suffering and the pain and humiliation poor Alec suffered because of his epilepsy was well portrait.
In general it was a gripping story that help my interest all the way though, the sex is all of page and fade to black, even if the innuendos and jokes about it are abundant and funny.
The insta-love was ok, I believed Alec could fall quickly as easily considering how starved for love and attention the poor man is, Jordan was a bit harder, since he was portrait as icy and snobbish, but I guess I can go with the flow, the manger and mother being real pieces of work is also not out of the realm of possibility.
If you want a hurt-comfort story with a lot of trauma and drama, a hot talented young rocker and a reserved older lover, a cat, a evil mom and manager, but a nice reporter, a cute kid thrown in for good measure, horrible health issues, both mental and physical, a wedding,an interesting revenge method, and you like an all around fairy tale feel, this is it.

The one thing I can say about this book is that it was a true romance novel. There was depth, character development, a great plot and most importantly, a happy ending after a boat-load of angst.

I adored Alec and my heart was broken for all he had endured in his short life. His mother was a monster and his father a saint. I was hoping she would die! The epilepsy was a surprise but I was glad to see this horrible disorder brought to light. Having a friend who lost a child to this disease I was glad to see it front and center throughout the story.

Jordan was an arrogant piss ant that I grew to admire and love. He was exactly what Alec needed and Alec was who he needed; together they were brilliant. One of my favorite couples in m/m romance.

Bec I could have done without. I didn't like her and she was someone I would not want in my life. I abhor selfish, self-centered, bitchy, whiney women....she was the pits! She redeemed herself a little in the book but I wanted her kicked to the curb.

Frank got his just desserts...but it still wasn't enough for what he did to Alec.

Furball the cat? What's not to love about a wierd looking ginger kitty. :-)

All in all, I loved it! This book will take it's place with my other 5 star favorites. Read it!

I absolutely loved this book. I actually had no intention of even reading it, but once I started it...after the 1st page...I could not put it down. I spent all day reading it. I laughed, I cried, I screamed. This is an amazingly sweet story with great passion, commitment and romance. A story of a innocent young man accepting and "owning" himself and overcoming abuse and loneliness to surround himself with his lover, friends, and fans.

Thanks, N and B for inviting me to read this with you!

I can't really adequately express my feelings on this book. I loved it, I mean, I really loved it but I just can't put into proper words exactly what I'm feeling. *sigh*

Jordan and Alec (aka Tyler Curtis) are very lovable characters. Jordan is kind of portrayed as a douche bag but he's really not. He's sweet to Alec but a bit standoffish to others. Alec is just adorable. Our first glimpse of the 'true' Alec is when he is dancing and singing to his heart's content back stage when he thinks no one can see him. It was such a contrast to the 'Tyler Curtis' image that it automatically put a smile on my face just reading about it. Alec is so naive and gullible, though; he has some major emotional issues, you feel so bad for him and added to the fact he's epileptic makes you just want to give him a giant hug. Although, Jordan does do a great job of giving Alec the love he deserves and needs.

Bec, Jordan's sister, was hysterical. She brings to the story the lightness Alec's disorder makes kind of depressing. Ugh, not really depressing but sad? If I wasn't laughing from her, I was crying because of what Alec is going through but then I'd be laughing again because Bec and Alec together is like a tag-team of uber-hyper children. Lol. I left the story with a sweet smile on my face that made my day because of the sappiness Jordan and Alec create together.

I appreciated the fact Alec's epilepsy was actually talked about and not just glossed over. We experience Alec go through his seizures multiply times. It's a big part of the story and how he gets under so much stress his seizures start to escalate into something causing him to be hospitalized for a long period of time.

The conflict with the manager is kind of a typical one. Where Frank, the manager, takes advantage of Alec at such a young age where all Alec wants is to be accepted. It's quite sad what Frank does to Alec but even though it was a bit cliched, I still enjoyed it and I still want to cut off Frank's balls.

All in all, this was a great rocker story. I loved the fact it not only gave me my fix for rockers but also lets me experience a touch of sadness with Alec's disorder without making it too angsty. Definitely recommended.

I loved, loved, loved this book. There were parts in this book that had me rolling on the bed laughing in tears. Man, I have not laughed like that in a long time. Then there were parts that were just so emotionally wrought, it squeezed my heart to tears. Honestly, Alec and Jordan are so cute, I wanted to wrap them in bubble wrap and keep them with me forever. The secondary characters were done well and brought such flavor to the overall story.

For those who are reticent to try m/m romance, this is a great one to read. The physical romance aspect is done beautifully and mostly in fade to black where you can take your own imagination!

Love, loss and life all in this wonderfully written book!

This is a sweet romance story with two likeable main characters, Jordan and Alec/Tyler. I enjoyed the pacing of the story however, do think that the romance could have developed slowly and not had the insta-love that so many books seem to have. I think there can be a love at first site, but this one was a little too quick and could have been developed a little differently. The interaction between the characters was good and liked how all the side issues were wrapped up and not just left hanging. All in all this was an enjoyable book.

I loved this novel, despite the insta-love trope, the annoying female character and the sometimes childish behavior of Alec/Curtis. It is story of survival, of living through emotional and psychological abuse, of living daily with a disorder capable of reducing you to the most basic level of humanity with little or no warning, and finally seeing that despite all of your flaws, you are worthy of the gift of love.

When I first started this book I expected a slow blossoming romance between a gay boy next door and a suave rock star. Instead I got an insta-lovestory between a gay boy next door and one of the girliest characters I have ever come across in m/m romance. No, make that: any romance. Because Tyler Curtis was so sweet and innocent and naive... he makes Mary Sue look jaded! Seriously: it was really hard for me to picture him as a grown man who could pull off a cool rock star routine in stead of a 12-year old girl.
Besides Tyler, I was also caught by surprise by the amount of mushiness in the story.
So, after rolling my eyes for the umpteenth time, I put the book away. To maybe read it again. Much, much later. Eventually.

Sooner than expected, the combination of a lazy holiday and an emotionally draining story instigated my need for some light reading and I picked up the book again. And this time around -because I was expecting an over the top, saccharine read- I actually did enjoy the story. Tyler eventually grew on me and in between a whole lot of sap, there is some snarky humor that I much appreciated.

So, all in all: an okay story. And I do hope Priest uses that snarkiness again, in a somewhat less sugary setting.

The Curtis Reincarnation is a sweet and charming story about Tyler Curtis, aka Alec Tyler, (a mega rock star with a notorious bad boy reputation) and Jordan Braxton (a quiet website designer who shares a house with his sister, Rebecca). Alec and Jordan meet when Rebecca wins tickets to Tyler’s concert.

I really enjoyed this book. Alec and Jordan’s love story was incredibly sweet. This book’s greatest asset, though, may be its drawback: it is incredibly sweet, sappy even, at times. That may not be everyone’s cup of tea but it worked for me with these characters. This is a story with round curves, softness, and murmured sweet nothings; it’s about love, marriage, and devotion; it’s about kisses, slow seduction, and love making. There was no edge-of-your-seat mystery; the bad guys were obviously bad and the good guys were undoubtedly loyal. But the story was nonetheless captivating. I loved the Alec and Jordan. Beware: this was a tear-jerker (but in a good way)! On more than one occasion, I had to wipe off my Kindle. My only sore point? Leanne did not get her just desserts IMHO. Someone needed to do the world a favor and wipe that b---- of the face of the earth. :)

I highly recommend this book to M/M romance fans that enjoy a sweet and tender tale.

Loved it! Jordan and Tyler were wonderful, their love story was filled with so much humor, drama and emotion that I found myself laughing out loud at one moment and crying my eyes out at others. I have to admit that I'm not crazy for 'insta-love' books, but in his book Jordan and Tyler spent so much time talking and getting to know each other that in the end it did not matter to me.

All the characters were wonderfully written - even Frank and Tyler's mom. I found the dialog to be excellent. It really gave me the chance to get to know Jordan and Alec in a different way. It was full of their personalities and felt real.

The writing was good and the story itself was excellent and interesting. It kept me reading through the night. My only problem was with some narration from a third person point of view that really threw me off. I'm just not used to it and it took me a while to get into it. Otherwise, this a great book. One I will keep on my favorite shelf.

Wow! Zathyn Priest can write a story. Other than having problems believing that someone who pretends to be a foul-mouthed, whore of a rock and roll star could be even close to that innocent behind the scenes, the characters were amazingly real and interesting. I cried at Alec's pain and felt a connection. I suggest this book as a must read and this author as one to follow.
