After the assassination of her parents, Princess Giana of Karolya seeks refuge in Scotland, posing as a maid in a secluded hunting lodge owned by handsome American Adam McKendrick. Original.
Rebecca Hagan Lee has had many different jobs, earning her beads of experience on the necklace of life with each one, but her desire to write was constant. After graduating from college, she set out to make her mark in the world of television journalism, but somewhere along the way, she decided she was a small town girl at heart and settled in a town where the media consisted of a weekly newspaper and an AM radio station.
Seeking a creative outlet, she turned to writing romance and began to write stories far different from those in the world of television news, but not that far removed from the hundreds of episodes of Daniel Boone, Big Valley, Gunsmoke and Bonanza she had watched growing up. She decided to create stories where good guys win, bad guys lose, prostitutes have hearts of gold and the heroes and heroines who fall in love and persevere are richly rewarded with incredibly bright futures and happy endings. In her world, heroines don't die or get killed off to make way for the next episode's new love interest. Her heroines get their men and help them become ideal husbands, lovers, friends and fathers.
Rebecca lives in a small southern town with her husband, a miniature schnauzer, two rat terriers, a half dozen barn cats, and two extraordinary horses. She is currently seated at the computer working hard to make her dreams come true, or riding off with her hero into the sunset. . .
Princess Giana of Saxe-Wallerstein-Karolya is awakened one night by a bleeding trusted servant who informs her, her parents have been killed by her cousin and she must flee. They go to Scotland where they pose as house servants until she can get an audience with her godmother, Queen Victoria. What she doesn't count on is the arrival of the new owner of the manor she's hiding in - Adam McKendrick "The Bountiful Baron" from Nevada. His parents marriage was annulled while he was very small. His father, a British Lord and his mother, a stubborn American who refused to move to England. He's determined to turn the hunting lodge he won in a card game into a golf resort. He and Giana instantly strike sparks, but she's hiding her identity and he doesn't want anything to do with a blond woman. Eventually, they discover each other's secrets, thwart her cousin's attempt to kill her and take over her country, find his father, her uncle and other past secrets. Convoluted but interesting.
An interesting look at the English class system. At a time when rich titled men took mistresses, what happened to them and their children is always interesting and this author's take on it is very intriguing. Also the female is in hiding and has taken on a role for which she is not suited and the class system is represented here too. The there's an American male who gets into the mix. The storyline moves along very well and the author's character development is quite good.
The best of the series, I am very sad there aren't anymore forthcoming! I did find this just a bit jarring with the late 1800's theme compared to the previous books in the series but very good story, couldn't put it down. Heroine is a feisty entitled princess on the run, she is used to every privilege but despite that doesn't behave like a spoiled annoying thing like so many books portray the heroine. We see a bit of the Marquis of Templeton toward the end and it ties into the rest of the series a bit loosely but plausible.
I loved this story. It was so much fun to read about Georgiana and Adam and learn about their individual backgrounds and the magnetism that draws them together in beautiful Scotland. I was happy to see Lord Templeston and Queen Victoria make a cameo appearance and thrilled to see Prince Victor's comeuppance.
This was a great find. I enjoyed every moment of this book, the damsel in distress, the bountiful baron, his pinkerton friend and the complete cast of characters. It was funny, had intrigue, romance. I could not put it down.
I enjoyed the story and plot of the book. All a Princess wanted her true love and friends. My criticism would be that they didn’t look over spell check very well.
From the first page till the last this book was wonderful!!! I absolutely loved the characters of Adam, Giana, Max and Murphy!!! The writer brought the characters to life in the book, it's like I was watching a movie!!! You have intrigue, murder, laughter, passion and then love all wrapped up in a sinfully delicious book!!! Giana is running for her life after her parents are assassinated by her cousin Victor who not only wants the crown and ore rights but wants her dead or alive!!! She ends up hiding at a hunting lodge in Scotland and in walks Adam an American who won the property in a poker game!!! You will love this book!!!
Unfortunately this wasn’t a story I enjoyed very much. I didn’t connect very well with the hero and heroine. Yes, I realize this is a historical romance so there’s not much I could possible connect to but neither the hero or heroine really grabbed me. I wasn’t drawn in to the story very much. I enjoyed the concept, displayed princess trying to hide in the wilds of Scotland finds the love of her life but I didn’t see too many redeeming qualities in either of them. I’d like to try something else from this author because it could have been just this book I didn’t enjoy.
I couldn't finish this one. The whole premise just didn't work for me. I kept trying to like it, but after a dozen pages I would get distracted by something and not want to pick it back up. It never grabbed me and pulled me in. That's what I get for not reading a synopsis beforehand. I would not have even picked it up the first time if I had realized what the story was about. Just not my cup of tea.
