WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) is the air interface technology selected by ETSI (European Telecommunications Standard Institute) and the major European and Japanese mobile communications operators. UMTS (Universal Mobile Telephony System) refers to the next generation of cellular technology which is also being standardized by ETSI. WCDMA is the air interface technology for the next generation mobile communications systems, which is in the process of being standardised by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project, consisting of ETSI, ARIB &TTC (Japan), TTA (Korea), T1P1 (USA) and CWTS (China).
