My 8-year-old granddaughter and I read this book together. We liked the start: “Caves are part of nature. They can be found underground, in hillsides, or on the sides of cliffs. There are caves inside glaciers and hardened lava, too!”
She didn’t have much difficulty with the text, only with the names of some of the caves. She enjoyed the illustrations and we were able to discuss her feelings --- from being in a cool cave to how scary she felt in the complete dark.
In addition to nice details about ten famous caves, DK provides a short but helpful glossary. This is a fine introduction for the topic in about 30 pages.
