For a moment he'd forgotten there were men who wanted him dead. Men who lived their lives in the dark, who could reach out of the shadows he used to live in, and he'd been naive to think the light inside her would keep her safe.
She was too bright to hide away though, made for the spotlight, and he'd felt warmer just by being near her... then everything went cold so fast.
In a breath she was gone, in the hands of his enemies, and he'd seen first hand what happened to women who crossed paths with the Volkov Bratva. They'd touch her, hurt her. She'd be afraid, suffering.
All because of him. All in the name of vengeance.
But that was their mistake, because in the maddening darkness her absence has put him in, a beast was sleeping... and they woke him up. Now everyone will pay.

This network of global mercenaries stay in the shadows, going on the impossible missions no one else will take. The elite soldiers of Black Sky Ops aren’t afraid to break the rules as long as it’s for the greater good — and the paycheck is high enough. But sometimes the line between right and wrong gets blurry, especially when protecting the people they love.
Note: The Black Sky Ops series is made up of full length novels with no cliffhangers and guaranteed happily-ever-afters. Each book is a standalone and the series can be read in any order.
USA Today bestselling author Livia Grant lives in Chicago with her husband and furry rescue dog named Max. She is fortunate to have been able to travel extensively and as much as she loves to visit places around the globe, the Midwest and its changing seasons will always be home. Livia's readers appreciate her riveting stories filled with deep, character driven plots, often spiced with elements of BDSM.
Call Sign: King, Black Sky Ops Book 2 by Livia Grant.
The main characters are Khloe Monroe and Ryder Helms these characters were first introduced in Black Light: Rescue by Livia Grant. I don’t think one has to read Black Light: Rescue first, but it wouldn’t hurt. I advise that one start with Call Sign: Thunder by Livia Grant, but I think one can read Call Sign: King first and still follow the story. If you want to get the most enjoyment though start with Black Light: Rescued and then read Call Sign: Thunder.
Khloe Monroe is a well known celebrity and she has lots of fans and is pretty much always in the tabloids. Ryder Helms is ex-CIA and is currently working for Black Sky Ops which is a fairly secret Black Ops group. Ryder has lots of enemies from his CIA days and he tries to keep a very low profile. However Khloe and Ryder are married and keeping a low profile for Ryder is not exactly easy.
The book pretty much starts with Khloe getting kidnapped and it goes from there as Ryder works on rescuing the love of his life. Rescuing Khloe is not easy and Ryder gets the help of his friends and coworkers from Black Sky Ops.
Call Sign: King is very fast paced and I read it in a few hours, I read some and then I went out to dinner and when I cam back I finished it. Call Sign: King has a lot action as you would expect and it has some scenes of torture or something sort of similar so be prepared.
I really enjoyed Call Sign: King and I only put it down once, it has a lot of action and I really loved the characters of Khloe and Ryder and I loved their supporting characters as well. I expect that we will get to read more about the other characters in future books, hopefully soon.
I think the ending was very good and there was an HEA with the main characters doing well I thought.
There are some nice smutty scenes to enjoy and there is quite a bit of violence and action. I thought it was well written and fast paced and it really held my attention.
I recommend reading Black Light: Rescued as well as the first Black Sky Ops book Call Sign: Thunder, strictly speaking this story is pretty stand alone, but I still recommend that you read these two books.
I did not think I would see so many members of Black Light show up in this book. It was a pleasant surprise.
Khloe and Ryder's Black Ops story was fast paced, intense, full of action, danger and suspense. I am not going to lie. Some of the things Khloe had to endure were difficult to read. It was a stark reminder of certain aspects of women's vulnerability.
This book emphasized how Khloe was much more than the international star that she portrayed to the public. She was kind, strong, intelligent, and constantly trying to think her way out of her situation. I also liked the way she was referred to as the "Queen" with Trevor being her "Royal Guard".
I appreciated how Ryder's team stepped up to support him, to keep him from completely breaking. I could sense the pain coming from both main characters, even if their pain was from different perspectives.
Ryder and Khloe's journey was also detailed in BL Rescued. This go round took its toll on the entire team. In spite of the thriller aspect of the story, there was still plenty of wit, charm, romance, and heat.
This book turned me into a person who clutched my throat, covered my mouth, and held my breath as worked my way through the pages. I honestly don't think I truly relaxed until the final pages. This series just keeps getting better. I am looking forward to what may be going on with Torch.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
What a cracker of a story this was. Once it had its claws in me, it wouldn't let me go. Ms. Grant is the dark mistress of harsh stories where debts are paid in pain, and the innocent are taken. She has tantalized us once again with Ryder and Khloe’s story. A story I found difficult at times as it pushed my comfort zone with the level of brutality and revenge. Although it also left me on an adrenaline high from start to finish. I enjoyed reading how the Special Ops steam pulled together when one of their own was in danger.
Ryder’s guilt was overwhelming, but with the support of many, he achieved his goal of finding Khloe. Khloe was brave and clever in the face of adversity. She had absolute faith in Ryder and the team. I cringed at times with what Khloe was put through.
This story included many secondary characters who were essential to the storyline. This book was raw and powerful, bringing out feelings that were difficult to acknowledge, but it was also a true love story.
Livia Grant’s Call Sign: King is everything I want in a suspenseful and action-packed story and more so. Readers of Black Light will recognize Ryder and Khloe from a couple different stories, but this one is a fab melding of what happens when Ryder’s past crashes with his (and Khloe’s) present and it’s equal parts exciting, shocking, scary, tragic, redemptive, and well, romantic.
I will readily oooh and aaah over Ms. Grant’s ability to craft such likeable characters that are easy to get attached to and she did that originally when we first meet Ryder and Khloe in Black Light: Valentine Roulette. Right then, I knew we were in for some major sparks and this couple just keeps getting better and better with each new story. THEN, when I read Call Sign: Thunder, I began to eagerly await Ryder’s story and it was epic. So much action, angst, drama, suspense, trust, dedication, and love. It’s what I want in a good story and a definite one-click.
This is book 2 in the BSO series and I would read them in order. It has every emotion you can ever feel and even at some points you may want to scream and toss the book across the room.
I have loved Ryder and Khloe ever since BL. I was so happy when I heard we were going to get more of them. What can I say about this book besides it is utter perfection. Ryder loves the danger but he is willing to give it all up for the love of his life. Khloe is the superstar and was hoping that one day she would be able to go out in public with Ryder as a “real couple”
Khloe found herself in a situation that had her question herself and thinking what would Ryder do. This book is action packed from the very first page. You cannot stop turning the pages until you get to the very last page and even then you want more. We get to see some familiar faces and even meet some new ones. This book is so much more then just Ryder and Khloe. It’s about family and protecting and caring for the ones you love. Buckle up and enjoy the ride.
I for one can’t wait to read the next one in this amazing series.
The captivating tale of Ryder and Kloe from Livia Grant's 'Black Light: Rescued' is a fairytale romance. Kloe, an international movie star, and Ryder, a former CIA agent and current leader of Black Sky Ops, have been in love for four years. To ensure Kloe's safety, Ryder has kept their relationship and marriage private from his enemies, who could harm her to get back at him. However, Ryder's one lapse in judgment resulted in Kloe's abduction by the most heinous of criminals. This novel is an emotional rollercoaster that left me on the edge of my seat until the very end. Livia Grant not only develops the main characters but also brings in their friends from Black Light, showcasing the love, loyalty, family, and friendship that makes this book a must-read. I am eagerly anticipating Torch's story in the next installment.
I’ve loved watching Ryder and Khloe’s relationship evolve through the course of the Black Light books, but I’ve always wanted to dig in deeper to discover the answers to all those questions the author left us with way back when. This story was everything I wanted it to be and so much more. This is not a book for the faint of heart. It shows us some of the darkest things human beings can do to one another; packing a strong emotional impact with a powerful visceral reaction. One that wasn’t entirely pleasant to experience. I hated to see what they had to go through, but I loved watching them all pull together to get the job done. There’s still so much more I want to know about the Black Sky Ops team, I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book. I received a complimentary advance copy of this book from the author.
Wow, what an incredible read, I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. Livia Grant has really outdone herself with this book, I have been waiting for what feels like a long time for this Black Sky Ops series, the first book was worth the wait but this one supersedes it. Khloe and Ryder were first introduced in the Black Light books, and the book is set four years after their marriage. It was great being reintroduced to people who appeared in previous books as well as the new members of Ryder’s team. The pages are packed full of love, action, suspense and tears as Ryder’s past collides in a terrifyingly evil way with his and Khloe’s future. I wish I could give more than 5 stars - can’t wait for the next in the series.
He is a member of the Black Sky Ops. He keeps a low profile due to his past activities while in the military and the enemies made there. She is an internationally acclaimed actress. Their four-year marriage has been kept quiet. As Khloe is attending her latest premier, Ryder acts as just another ember of her security team. But sharp-eyed members of the press corps publish that something is up.
Hang on to your hats, as danger comes calling and retribution is at hand. It is raw and gritty, and almost too realistic. We feel the composed team leader become frantic with worry. Fortunately his team has their backs. We feel each insult that is applied to Khloe and hope with her that recue is on its way. Can she stay alive long enough for that rescue to succeed.
Emotional, hair-raising and a complete roller coaster ride. A stellar read.
***** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book *****
Oh Ryder & Khloe!! I have been patiently awaiting this series but especially this story for so long. Sometimes when you’re that eager to get the story for so long, it ends up anticlimactic. Let me tell you, Ms. Grant did NOT disappoint. She absolutely shattered through the roof of what I’d expected, could imagine. Their story has it all. Heat, heart, blood-pumping, edge-of-your-seat suspense, and pulling-at-your-heartstrings emotion. You don’t want to miss this series.
This was beautiful, so well written.I never read anything by this author before and I plan to read more. I felt bad for Ryder knowing that he knew that Khloe was pregnant and lost it but couldn't tell her that one time she was pregnant. They went thru so much to be a couple to almost loss it when Khloe was kidnapped by a mean nasty man and his family! But things turn out for the best and was able to be a couple and still love each other.
OMG! I thought the first book in this series was brilliant but this one hit it right out of the Park!!! I've love Ryder and Khloes' story so far in The black light series but this one blew me away! It's been a long time since I cried this much over my kindle...I think it might be water logged!! The action, passion and around high emotions in this story were so well written that I couldn't put it down and read it in one sitting! I have read all of Ms Grants book but this one is the very best yet. Highly recommended!
Call Sign King is the second book in the Black Sky Ops series. Reading the 1st book in that series is not necessary but this story is a sequel of a book in another series : Black Light Rescued and I really think it should be read first. Not only because it's one of my favorite Black Light books but if you don't, you'll miss an integral piece of Ryder and Khloe's story. Ryder's past comes back with a vengeance and gives us not only the action-packed story but a rollercoaster of emotions. I lived and breathed with Ryder, Khloe and all the side characters ( old and new) till the last page. I can't wait for the next book coming this summer.
I have loved these characters since we first met them in Black Light and each story about them has been unique yet like coming home again. And real, oh so real. By this point in their story Khloe and Ryder had ridden their ups and downs, married and love a wonderful if yet secret life. But one hint of a relationship between the two spins their world out of control. I love that these two can argue and disagree and still have a loving, sexual relationship. Their D/s relationship is front and center in this story, but seems well integrated as you'd expect for an established couple. The author was able to give us just not a smexy love story, but a heart pounding, nail biting adventure that had me as the reader wanting to flip to the end to make sure everything would turn out okay (don't worry, I was able to resist the temptation). Although a stand alone story, you will benefit if you read the previous stories that feature this couple. It will make the overall story a richer experience. HEA all around.
Every once in a great while a hero comes along that is so extraordinary he rises above all others. He has something special that transcends the book he’s in and makes him truly larger than life. It’s not any one specific thing. It’s not because he’s the best looking, the strongest, the bravest or even the smartest. There’s no way to even put it into words what makes him so unique. He just is.
Ryder Helms is one of these men. He first captured my interest one Valentine’s night in a bdsm club in Washington DC. I was mesmerized. He was hands down the most interesting character I’d seen in years. I desperately wanted more and was thrilled to discover he was the star in his own full length book. I jumped on Rescued right away and literally devoured it. Every page just made me want more and quickly I was totally and completely in love with him. I hated when it ended as I wasn’t ready to say goodbye. And the epilogue made it very clear I didn’t have to. Another book was to follow. So I waited, as patiently as possible for a long time. I mean a looong time. Livia provided a brief tease, with Purged, but all that didn’t was make the waiting harder. Call Sign Thunder gave me some serious face time but it still wasn’t enough. I wanted more Ryder. Nothing less than another full book would do.
Finally, finally, after years of wanting and waiting, the book I’ve been dreaming of is finally here. And guess what? It was totally worth it! Yeah! Livia met the challenge and once again Ryder is back, just as amazing and unforgettable as always. I’m even more in love with him than ever before. I still can’t explain what’s so special about him, he just is.
Call Sign King is incredible. In addition to Ryder and his beloved Khloe, there are many wonderful characters and lots of action, tons of angst, hot and steamy scenes, and more. No, I’m not providing any details beyond the blurb. Don’t let anyone spoil a single thing. Plan to read it in one sitting, you won’t be able to put it down. And the best news is, the series will continue. Hopefully Ryder will continue to be in my life for many, many more years.
This is the second book in the Black Ops series. This one is Ryder and Khloe story. For those of you that are familiar Ms. Grant’s books, you will recognize these two characters from the Black Light series.. Khloe is an international movie star. Known and recognized all around the world. Ryder is a former CIA agent and leader of Black Sky Ops, organization. He has kept their relationship and marriage secret to prevent harm coming to Khloe from his many enemies. When Khloe asks him to attend an event with her and he compels. Everything goes to hell in a hand basket. His one lapse in judgment has resulted in her abduction. Their story is an emotional rollercoaster. I was on the edge of my seat or holding my breath many times throughout the book. I loved Khloe’s strength and intelligence. There is so much more to her than meets the eye. And Ryder’s team is not just a group working together. But more like brothers and family. They all come to Ryder’s aid. Not only to help in recusing his beloved wife. But to support and have his back and make sure he doesn’t break down completely. Ms. Grant was able to not only deliver a sexy love story,. But a heart pounding, pulse raising adventure filled with danger and violence. And everything I would expect from people trying to exact revenge on Ryder. Just a thrilling captivating story.
I've always loved Ryder and Khloe's story. From the first time they met at Black Light all the way up to now, they have always been one of my favorite couples from the Roulette books. They were an unlikely couple but when they fell in love, they fell hard. Its always been Ryder's goal to stay out of the spotlight to keep Khloe safe from his enemies, but he lets his guard down in this book and Khloe pays the price.
The whole book was emotional overload from beginning til end. You feel the absolute agony from Ryder when Khloe disappears til he has her back in his arms. You feel the heartbreak from Khloe while she worries about her friends and the almost debilitating fear from her when she's kidnapped. And you feel not only relief but disappointment in the end as the BSO team heals. I felt every emotion right along with the characters. That's how special the writing is in this book. All the chemistry, all the devotion, all the love and care Ryder and Khloe feel for one another and the family they have built together, you get to experience right alongside them. It was phenomenal from start to finish!
This has been a great series so far. You won't be disappointed in any of the delicious men of the BSO team!
This is the 2nd book in the Black Sky Ops series featuring the emotional military suspense romance between Ryder the secret agent and Khloe the movie-star a couple we've met before in previous Black Light books:Valentine's Roulette etc.. Khloe has a movie premiere and she really wishes that Ryder could finally be by her side when she's there. Khloe actually convinces him to attend the premiere with her and she has no idea that her request of Ryder will have deadly repercussions. Ryder has been hiding from the evil that is Helms trying to keep a low profile in order to protect Khloe which is why he couldn't acknowledge their baby even when she lost it no matter how much he wanted to and how much it hurt him to not be there for her. Attending the movie premiere with Khloe has them splashed all over the press giving Helms the opening that he's been waiting for but the Black Sky Ops guys are not going to make it easy Helms to get to Ryder or Khloe. I don't want to say anymore and ruin this book for anyone else with spoilers. You really need to read this emotional military suspense romance to see what happens. I would recommend reading this book and I'm looking forward to the next book in this wonderful series. I voluntarily received a review copy of this book.
OMG, I've loved Khloe and Ryker ever since they were introduced in Black Lights Valentines roulette and then BL: Rescued. The chemistry between the two has always been off the charts and Ryker has built himself an incredible network of mercenaries with his Black Sky Ops agency helping the US government rid the world of scum. While Khloe enjoys her growing success she longs to share it with Ryker rather than the world thinking she's perpetually single. One moment of lapsed judgement and Rykers skeletons come crawling out of the fires of his past. Kings Queen (Khloe) finds herself in mortal danger and the suspence on how the King (Ryker) can get her back kept me on the edge of my seat while reading this in one sitting because I simply couldn't put it down (and yup lost some shut eye- lol). Livia Grant you absolutely nailed this one and I can't wait what happens next and I look forward to Wrath getting his HEA in a future book as well - pretty please. Needless to say ladies and gents - go run and read the book but be prepared to not put it down. Lol Side note: heed the TWs.
Oh my goodness, this book is amazing. I have been waiting for this series to begin and I am not disappointed.
Rider and Khloe has come a long ways since discovering the passion, dominance and submissiveness at Black Light. Rider love and protection for his Queen is so off the charts but she loves him so much that she knows he will hurt her. They had to keep their love and marriage a secret because of his enemies and the threat to destroy him and she has her own as an A-List Actress who is in high demand. But his worse nightmare came true after a journalist trying to make a name wrote stories about Khloe and trying to identify the man she was with at the premiere of her latest movie. Khloe was kidnapped and 4 of her bodyguards were shot and she was tortured but she was a fighter and she knew her man was coming to get her. This story is so good and suspense is at the top. I have been a Livia Grant since the first book Infamous Trio in the Black Light Series. She is is an awesome storyteller and can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Ever since I read Black Light: Rescued, I have been eagerly waiting for more stories with Ryder and Khloe, and this book is utter perfection! If I could give it a rating higher than 5 stars I most definitely would. This second book in this new series is everything and more that I hoped it would be. I fell in love all over again with Ryder & Khloe. My heart stopped so many times, I almost threw my kindle across the room, and yet I couldn’t put it down until every last word, sentence and paragraph was read. It is so intense that I had to turn my face away from the pages to catch my breath and calm my heart. Ryder and Khloe are the perfect couple, she a beautiful, famous movie star, and he is all alpha, running a black ops team, protecting those he loves, like Khloe. Until one day, his past catches up to them, and puts them both in danger. Ryder will do anything in his power to protect Khloe and nothing and no one will stop him. This story isn’t just about two people in love, it’s about realizing what is most important to them, their families and mostly each other. I also enjoyed the sprinkling of others from the BL world into this new Black Ops world. Truly the best of both worlds put into one mind blowing, intense, heart stopping and heart warming story. If ever there is a story to read, this is it! Bravo to this author for writing such a truly brilliant story!
Livia Grant is giving us another fantastic read a little away from the usual BDSM and back to her characters from past books.
For her anniversary all Khloe wanted was to have Ryder at her side while she participates in her movie premiere. Finally convincing him important this is to her, the worst nightmare comes about when the press catches an intimate touch.
The evil that Ryder has been hiding from for years comes back to haunt them both when his past comes to life again and Khloe is taken.
Our very talented Livia has written a wonderful military suspense novel here as Ryder and his team risk everything to get her back. This action backed story gets dark and gritty, there's almost no steamy hotness although there is some laughter and a lot of tears.
Throughout this story are references from Khloe and Ryder's other books but this can be read as a standalone and be enjoyable. It is a thrill ride from start to finish thanks Livia for a great read.
For readers of the authors' Black Light books this story on Ryder and Khloe has been a longtime coming. Happily, it delivers on everything a reader could want. There is such a wealth of emotion in this story, from both Khloe, but also from Ryder, and it's great to read such a strong warrior having such overwhelming emotions when it comes to the woman he loves. I loved almost everything about this story but there was just one thing that pulled me down. We find out how it all happened, and what the impetus was, but I'm disappointed that we didn't find out what the fallout was for the person who created all of this (trying very hard not to write spoilers) and what the effect on Khloe's career was. Apart from that, there are great side characters who each have a name and a callsign, which I found difficult to keep straight (a character list would have come in handy). Overall, this is an amazing story that is difficult to put down.
I'm still vibrating with tension after turning the last page of this book! It has been a long time I was so absolutely immersed in a story that I could not put it down before the very end. Not even for food! Having followed Khloe and Ryder since their first meeting at Black Light and now BSO, I have to say, Ms Grant has surpassed herself with this story. She had me literally at the edge of my seat, feeling sick to my stomach with fear, getting goosebumps from the cold, the danger, feeling the dread, desperately clinging to hope... And at the same time there was the unflinching support of fellow warriors, the love of partners, friends and family, of people risking their lives to save others. It was easy to loose myself for some hours and feeling right in the middle of the action, the despair and the love. And now I have to sit and slowly get back to the real world!
This book was so good to read, i really loved it. We have seen both these characters in their own blacklight story, so it was a no brainer to read when Livia wrote this book for them both. This series so far has been exciting, and riviting to say the least, the men of Black sky ops will do anything for their king. Ryder has promised Kloe that he would come to her premier, he thinks its a bad idea, but as long as the cameras keep away from his face and dont associate him with Kloe it should be ok. But then things go wrong, media has seen their slight of hands and tried to put two and two together but they dont know who he is. However his enemies do and soon it is Kloe that is kidnapped, Can Ryder and his team save her before she is taken away for good?
I loved the attention to detail about Toronto in this book I used to spend many days a month working there and in fact spent two weeks in the Toronto General, I also worked for Nav Canada and have flown many times out of both Pearson and Billy Bishop airports. Well done Ms Grant for including the ferry. Reading about familiar milieu makes it even more real.
I spent most of the story with my heart in my mouth and at times I found myself forgetting to breathe. There were parts that were so descriptive of the evil men can do that I almost felt the pain. It is hard to imagine anyone being that cruel. Just when I was able to relax a little and give a sigh of relief bam, that epilogue ramped everything up again. Once you start this book you will not be able to put it down.
Wonderful! Great! Awesome! I don't have enough adjectives to describe how great this book is.
Ryder and Khole captured my heart with the beginning of their love in Black Light: Rescued. Everyone wishes they had a love like them. Their love is so true, loyal, and strong that they are able to withstand the hardest situation to ever happen to them. It is amazing how Livia Grant is able to put the words together so that not only as you read you can feel their feelings, but to be able to imagine it.
I not only felt the words; I felt like I was pulled into the story and was there as a witness in person.
To all that have not read this story: you will fall in love with Ryder and Khole and will for sure want more.
I have been wanting to read this book for years. I love Khloe and Ryder ever since they made their first appearance in Black Light. In this book Ryder's worst nightmare comes true. His past has caught up with him.
I really enjoyed getting back together with Ryder and Khloe and seeing how their relationship has evolved after 4 years of marriage. Khloe had to overcome so many personal demons so seeing her so happy and blossom was great. The book is a rollercoaster of actions and emotions and it will grab your attention from the first page to the last. I loved the love and interactions between the characters. Love comes in so many forms. There is anguish but always hope.
I loved getting to know Ryder and Khloe in the Black Light series and now we get a series with him and his partners in the Black Sky Ops books. Ryder has been very careful in the past to keep his association with Khloe under wraps because there are still people who want him dead. But he lets his guard down and bam.............she's gone. I loved this because Khloe is a bada$$ woman who can hold her own, even after all she's been through. Ryder goes through hell worrying about his wife and it's going to take the whole team to get her back. Will they do it? This book kept me on the edge of my seat and I kept reading and kept turning the pages. Danger, drama and of course steamy scenes abound! I really loved this book and I can't wait for the next one!
I've been waiting what seems like forever for this story to be extended after meeting them in one of the Black Light Valentine Anthologies. This is a couple that has stayed with me for so long and their story was even more than I had hoped for. It has a high intensity level in suspense, drama, and heat and I feel slightly emotionally drained now that I've finished it. I mean that in the best way. I laughed. I cried, I found myself holding my breath and sitting on the edge of my seat. At one point I was so engrossed in the story that my child opening the door scared me to death. The best way to describe it is captivating. I wanted to read it faster and at the same time never wanted to reach the end. Saying I loved it doesn't adequately describe how I feel about this one.
