Dat ending ughhh. May is too far away.
This was so entertaining and unique. I read it a lot quicker than I was expecting and now I’m sitting here wondering what I’m supposed to be doing with myself for the next 3 months.
The story was kinda bomb and I loved the MCs, except for Stone. I honestly don’t think there’s a way to redeem him because what he did was so beyond wrong, and he doesn’t see it. I hope it’s not gonna get brushed over. Oh, important to me and my friends: there is on page scenes with OW, as well as SA of the FMC, so please be mindful of triggers.
While the story did show a lot of things, I wanted more details. Without them, it moved very quickly from one thing to another and it could make me disconnected from the scenes. I did also see some minor continuity errors and editing mistakes but it happens!
Can’t wait to finally have the mystery solved or at least answered somewhat. I have my speculations about Brennan and the others, but we shall see. 👀

Missing something
This started out quite promising, then about halfway the rinse repeat started. The connections between the heroine and the MMC feel forced and stilted. The end there it was like grasping at straws to make the heroine suddenly so desperate to escape. I read the whole book and it started losing stars as it went on but I was invested and wanted to know how it ended.
I want my time back.

This was another case of a great plot and a flat romance, for me. I was really into this book, initially. Amelia’s struggles with Nathan and her need to protect her son were very well written.
However, things fell apart almost immediately upon the King family taking Amelia and Dylan in. They talked about her as if she were the most beautiful, brilliant person to ever walk the earth even though they had barely had a conversation. It came off as instalove and kept me from connecting with the budding relationships. While I suspect it may be a soulmates thing, that was not confirmed. Perhaps introducing that idea earlier would have allowed me to ignore how quickly everyone fell for Amelia.
This book was (or at least felt) very long. Yet, we barely got interactions with Liam and we were hit with a cliffhanger. I am unlikely to continue this series because it seems like this should have been wrapped up in one book, so I can only assume that book two will also feel unnecessarily long to me.
I’m open to reading other stories by this author and I’ll keep my fingers crossed that the relationship development will be more fulfilling.

It kinda had a Wattpad feel tbh. Not that it was badly written - not at all - just storywise. Think along the lines of keywords like: beaten female wolf, "secret" child, revenge plot and soul mates. I liked the backstory, but I wasn't crazy about the characters. I love that Amelia is so protective of her child and her relationship with Shaw seems sweet and real. The rest of them seem forced and based off physical attractions only.
I wasn't aware that it was part of a series, so I wasn't prepared for that ending. I chose it because I saw it in a facebook group and thought it was a standalone. Guess that was my fault, that I didn't check...

You know when there so many characters you never get the full story? This is how I feel reading this.
The first part was very well written it introduced all the characters well. Set up some unique and interesting plot points but then it almost immediately dropped them.
Liam was barely mentioned and kinda just skimmed over even thought he had the most interesting character. (Honestly could have written an entire book about him as a solo love interest and it would have been amazingly unique)
Shaw was a total 180 without actually having anything happened. Was written as a playboy but the only last until his first interaction with Amelia and it wasn’t even a long one. (Very insta-love)
Stone had that whole love to hate thing going but his character had no depth. Started to fall in love without having portrayed any emotions or character changes. (Yet was 90% of the books focus)
Cole had his character set up so well for an epic love story but by the end I honestly forgot he even existed. (Seems like every part he was in was the same “ooo I’m starting to like her but I’m loyal to my alpha”)

Mi è piaciuto, ma è tutto emotivamente molto pesante.
Non c'è un barlume di gioia, proprio zero.
Anche le scene spicy sono legate a bisogni primari, niente di sentimentale.
Oltretutto pensavo ci fosse molta più interazione sulla pagina tra Dylan e i membri dell'harem.
La descrizione della violenza domestica, sia mentale che fisica, è la cosa migliore di tutto il libro. La si percepisce sulla propria pelle, il peso che Amelia porta diventa il bagaglio anche del lettore.
Mi ha un po' demoralizzata il fatto che non sia autoconclusivo.

Well this book surprised me … I really loved it. When I saw the cover I thought it would be an other shifter book with instant love and a lot of sex scenes. That is not my thing … I like when relationships are complicated and feel a little real.
This book has a strong FMC that survived a lot to save her son and MC who are struggling with grief and heir passed.
They each make a lot of mistakes and their relationship are changing slowly.
The only down side would be that the FMC feels really irresistible to men. But I think there will be a reason in book 3.
This series is sweet and really hot.

DNF at 60%. The plot is moving too slow to hold my interest. Plus, I scolled to the end, and the book ends on a cliffhanger without clarifying the one element that I cared about. It's not a bad concept, but it's severely underdeveloped with characters who are flat. Not all storytellers are good authors, which require a level of competently using the rules of grammar and sentence/paragraph structure. This author could certainly benefit from a basic writing class and an editor.

I think the plot of the book is actually really interesting and it kept my attention. I think while reading the book it really sweeps you away, but then after you finish it it's just kind of eh. Like its not great but its not bad.

Let me start off by saying, please read the TWs at the start of this book. They are very much real and your mental health is more important than any book. That being said, continue reading for my review.
This is one of my favorite authors. Her stories are beautifully written. Lots of world building and character development. All these things are present in this book! This story was amazing.
When I say that Amelia has been through a lot, I’m not joking. Her life has been awful. Amelia’s mate Brennan was brutally murdered 5 years ago. She has been made to marry his murderer, unwillingly. This man is cruel. His pack is cruel. Anything goes here. Women have no rights, abuse is common place and children are to be seen and not heard. To say the Longroad pack is evil is an understatement. I feel for Amelia in a way I have not in a while. She is trying so hard to escape, but is not successful. In come Stone, Shaw, Cole, and Liam. Will they make things better? Will they help her heal and trust? Or will they make poor choices?
They blame Amelia for Brennan’s death. The story that unfolds is hard to watch. We are frequently shown glimpse of Amelia’s past and it is so very heartbreaking. Her four-year-old son is the only reason she fights the way she does. Even as things start looking up for Amelia, the past will not leave her alone. The development of her character is fantastic. Given the choices she has, I probably would have done the same thing she did. Our past defines how we precede in life. Especially when the trauma is fresh.
Stone… don’t get me started on this character. I’m not sure if redemption is possible.
Shaw, he is by far my favorite. I absolutely love this character! He is funny, sweet, and so caring. I fear gushing about this character for simple fact that I could easily give spoilers.
Cole, well he is a hunk. His character is perfectly written. The loyal second in command. Will he open up for Amelia? Or will he ruin it by being loyal to Stone?
Liam… I have a lot a questions about Liam. I can’t say much without giving him away, but I do like him!! He is certainly not broken like his family believes.
If you do not have and triggers or the triggers do not bother you, I highly recommend reading this book today! This story was amazing. I will be waiting on the edge of my seat for book 2. I need to know what happens. I need to see Stone grovel on his knees.

Please read the trigger warnings for the book. It deals with some very sensitive issues that might be painful for some to read about; however, it handles them in a magnificent way! As someone with a background of tra&ma and ab&se myself, I could relate to Amelia and her struggles to find herself, see herself as worthy, and learn to recognize her strengths. I fully understood her difficulties in trusting others.
It's also refreshing to read a story where the MFC is a mother, especially where the MFC's actions are primarily based on the ways she does her best to try to keep her son safe and attempt to help him grow up without the witnessing viol&nce & tra&ma she's experiencing. I very much appreciated that *most* of the MMCs acknowledge Amelia's needs and do their best to help her feel safe & protected, despite maybe not knowing exactly how to do that.
Another thing I appreciate about most about the story is that the MFC and most of the MMCs actually communicate with each other. They may not fully trust or understand each other, but they do start to explain their feelings and their motivations. This is a nice switch from many stories, where the miscommunications and lack of communication drive the entire plot. Any hesitation to share (on most sides) in this story makes sense and is fully warranted based on the experiences they've all had together and as individuals. But at least there is a starting point and budding formation of trust when & where warranted.
There are many parts of Amelia's story that I can relate to so strongly. Without going into too much into spoiler territory, the ways she tries to keep others on an even keel, smooths things over, & does everyting possible in order to redirect the focus & attention of those with the potential to harm her or her son - those things resonated with me so much. I recognize that behavior in myself and very much appreciated one of the MMCs discussions with Amelia about that.
I'm very much looking forward to finding out how the story continues! There are several mysteries afoot; I'm on pins & needles waiting to see how they are resolved. I also can't wait to see many of the characters get what they deserve - in whatever form (positive or negative, depending on which character we're talking about!) that turns out to be. ;)

This book started off so good, but sadly the plot unraveled and inconsistencies seemed to crop up as the story went on.
At the start, Amelia was a badass protective mom and a survivor. I loved her. But once she met the King brothers she lost most of her brain cells and didn't seem to have any real plan or goals, instead just aimlessly going from one brother to the next.
Stone was an empty headed jerk so I was annoyed at how much screen time he got. I had high hopes for Cole, but their budding attraction gets swept aside in favour of more screen time for the brothers, which was a weird choice since he had the best relationship with her son (although even Dylan faded into the background after a while).
Which leads me to another weird element: the vague world-building. Major details about the AU, about pack life and how the wolves in this verse operate are mostly left unexplained.
For example, Liam's visions are treated with skepticism, but at the same time there's a witch who can delve into memories with magic and no one bats an eye? Then there's the fact these wolves apparently get married...but they also have fated mates? Or are they mates only when there's a bite mark? It was confusing.
None of the characters seemed to know how mating works either (Amelia starts to have 'mate' feelings for Shaw and Stone, but from her reaction you can't tell if that's an anomaly or if it's normal to have new mates after your first one dies?) and the random heat scenario just came out of nowhere.
Also, I disliked how the multi-partner aspect was handled. Amelia was very relaxed about sleeping with one brother and then another and hardly gave it a moment's thought. But since most characters in this verse are monogamous (from what I've seen), it didn't make sense that she wasn't more conflicted about it, especially since they were her dead mates' siblings, no less.
Ultimately, I'm glad I read this book because there were bits that I enjoyed, but the inconsistencies and chaotic vibe I started getting from the 60% mark really put me off reading further in the series.

The Darkest Mark by May Dawson is a fabulous start to a new riveting paranormal RH fated mates shifter story full of suspense, intrigue and lots of hot sexy alpha males and steamy scenes galore that will keep you entertained until the very end!
Our fabulous heroine Amelia has endured a lot in her life, living the last five years with the psychotic alpha Nathan that murdered her true fated mate and forced her into marriage. With a home life that’s just as questionable, she’s lived her life day by day just trying to protect her son and survive the best that she can. Until the time comes where she finally decides to take matters into her own hands and end it all…
…until fate intervenes in the form of her true mate’s pack ambushing their convoy in retaliation for what Nathan did to their brother, and then taking Amelia and her son back to their home with them. With an enemy and unknown lurking on the horizon he better decide fast!
Overall if you love a good intense fated mate RH shifter romance with lots of intrigue and spice then this is the one for you. Just be sure to check your triggers before proceeding as our heroine has lived quite the traumatic life full of abuse, violence and forced contact—whosever in true Dawson fashion is it is truly worth the ride!

A bit of an emotional read with mystery, action, and more!
I can't tell you how many times my eyes watered a bit during this book. If you're not one for heartbreak or anything, don't worry - I'm not either! This is pretty mild for us soft hearted folks who hate the idea of true love not having a happy ending. In the case of "The Darkest Mark," Amelia is married to the Alpha of the Longroad pack, Nathan, but it wasn't by choice. He had been obsessed with her since they were young, but she didn't realize how much so. When she found her fated mate, Nathan killed him and forced Amelia to be with him. She played the part of dutiful, loyal wife, not for fear of herself, but of her son. Her mate's son... not that she ever wanted Nathan to find out the truth. He thought it was his, and as long as that belief held, her son was relatively safe.
As the book goes on, Amelia meets the family that her mate, Brennan, had talked so fondly about. Brennan had been the alpha of the King pack, and since his death, one of his brothers, Stone, took the role. She's taken by their pack, and she's met with mixed feelings. It's so nice that she's found people she can talk about Brennan to, other people who loved him. However, she's unsure if she's even safe with their pack. Things are complicated, made even more so by Stone, who doesn't know if he can trust her.
There's also a mysterious Rogue wolf who seems to follow her, and no one knows for sure where Nathan is at.
My only critique about the book is that there are a couple of small errors that could be fixed at some point. Things get missed in editing, so it isn't a huge deal. At one point, they spell Brennan's name wrong. Another time, Amelia says Shaw's name when she's actually yelling at Stone.
The book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, and I'm excited to dive into book #2!

If you are looking for a shifter, why choose romance with some dark themes, this series could be it for you. Always check trigger warnings before reading.
We have Amelia who's true mate brennan got killed by the alpha and he forced her to marry him instead. He is very abusive and the relationship is so toxic it's unhealthy but she doesn't give up on life, she has a four year old son who needs her. She knows she needs to get away from the alpha not only for herself but also for her son. So she starts making plans but what she doesn't know is, that the brothers of her true mate are also making plans to get their revenge. She gets caught in the middle of it and they kidnap her, that's where the story really picks up. I won't spoil anymore, you just have to read it.
These men have it bad for her. :D They are so deliciously written. They all have different personalities and give her something what she needs to find herself again, to get stronger, to remember who she is again. I love every single one of them. But because it's a series, it gives you an idea of what could be between all of them but it's not fully there yet. Oh and the spice is SPICY! :D

This book has just pulled me in and I am loving it so far. I know it’s just book 1 but I am already so invested in the characters and what happens next. The book is telling Amelia’s story about her struggle to live with the man she was forced to marry. He is the Alpha wolf of her pack and not a very nice man. From the start we learn that her son isn’t his and she fears the day he learns this and is in a constant state on worry for them both. As the story slowly unfolds we get to see glimpses of what happened and why she is ended up him and what she has had to endure just to survive. Eventually her and her son Dylan are stolen by the brothers from the pack that the child’s father is from. This should be good but they are enemies to her current pack so she is not excited for this turn of events at first. As she spends time with the brothers Stone the new Alpha, Liam the broken one and Shaw the flirt she becomes conflicted. She wants Dylan to know his dads family but she worries it is not the safe place she hoped it would be for them. She is in constant turmoil trying to decide if they should stay or leave. By the end of the book I’m just a wreck as it seems like there is never going to be any peace for Amelia and Dylan even though she is making some progress with the family. Of course we are left on a cliffhanger and it has me impatiently waiting for the next book to see what Stone and the his brothers do.
I can’t recommend this series enough. I have enjoyed many of the authors books and I think this will be another amazing series for her.

O.M.G….so much drama, angst, secrets, revelations, of the feels, mystery, and misconceptions, misunderstandings, and so so much heat! I just loved reading The Darkest Mark and can’t wait for The Unbound Moon. I can��t help but hope that Stone and everyone gets to see and understand Liam. I am unsure how Stone will solve the problems that have come up from his actions. Although, The Darkest Mark was more focused on Stone, Shaw, and Amelia there is chemistry developing between Liam and Cole. I can’t wait to see what happens in The Unbound Moon. May Dawson is one of my favorite authors and The Darkest Mark clearly shows why. The Darkest Mark is filled with everything mentioned above and one of the biggest reasons that will have me adding an author to my favorites list is when the book I am reading has me feeling all the feels and is so engrossing that I don’t want to stop reading and I have all these ideas in my head on what all the possibilities that could be the outcome of the cliffhanger that The Darkest Mark ended with. I sincerely recommend The Darkest Mark, The Darkest Mark series, Rich Demons of Darkwood, and May Dawson as an author. Not only does May do a outstanding job with PNR books she also is able to write New Adult, Contemporary, bully romances, and RH romances. I plan on checking out Lost Fae or Their Shifter Princess series while waiting for The Unbound Moon. Happy Reading!!

DNF - Finished 100% book one 100% book two 10% of book three.

I'm so sad because I was really looking forward to this series to be complete. Unfortunately it just didn't hit the... mark. ;)
It felt like it was the Stone show 24/7. He is literally the worst one in the harem. I find his narcissistic, controlling and possessive (even in the harem) behavior abusive. He literally mentally tortures her... like wtf? The FMC deserves better, the other men give her better and she is constantly keeping them at arms length. Using Shaw pretty much only for sex, letting Stone push Cole around, not making more of an effort to help Liam. I looked further into book three and it seemed like it was mostly about Stone and Amelia.. Brennan is obviously gonna be involved but even then it's like... what about the decent men in the harem?
Also, she had sex with Shaw while in heat and was taken so obviously isn't on any birth control anymore? So.... isn't she pregnant? Wouldn't she get pregnant after? It's literally never talked about. Also... she said she has never had a heat before, but she got pregnant with Dylan... so she doesn't need to be in heat to get pregnant and she is having sex? But no one has mentioned her getting pregnant with them... There is one inner monologue from Liam about a baby but even then he doesn't know if that's in the present for future.

The confusion only starts at the beginning.
There are a lot of names tossed at us and a pack title of unknown ownership, along with mixed pronouns and antecedents.
This made it difficult to determine who belonged where, to whom, and whether things were done to people, or done by them.
The story is interesting enough in general, but the strange phrasing returns a bit more often than I’d like.
The first spice is unwarranted and genuinely repulsive, to be honest.
They’re wolves, not vampires, and I’ve even read vampire books that decidedly avoid that topic and area entirely.
That’s what I get for trying to eat salsa while reading, I guess.
And the story feels like we’re waiting for things to happen, which I guess is the premise and basis for most of the tension, but who wants to read about the mundanity between battles?
Even if it’s a wolf pack, pretending they’re not braced for retaliation, all that’s left is a bit of a snooze fest with manufactured tension.
Also, you can’t give us a crazy guy and leave him on the back burner the majority of the time.
Spice it up! Go nuts!

She doesn’t know who ratted her and Brennan out, but I’m guessing it was either the little sister or Mother, which she conveniently doesn’t even consider though she said herself that her mother loves her secrets. 🧐
Stone was a dick. 100%. The only soft moment he truly had was with Dylan. He has a lot of groveling to do. Same with Cole. His loyalty is admirable but man, it’s reeeeeally screwing his chances with Amelia.
Liam and Shaw are my favorites. Liam isn’t broken, despite what his family thinks and he cares for Amelia so much. Shaw is perfect for her, quick to build her up and make sure she’s comfortable within her skin. I loveee him.
Their sister cracks me up and I hope to see more bonding time between her and Amelia, they both could use a friend.
I lowkey feel like the rogue is Brennan. That Nathan did something to him, especially since no body was every discovered for Brenn. Nathan is totally alive too, idc.

This is a pretty dark story interspersed with scenes of violence and passionate, graphic sex. Amelia is an abused woman trapped in a relationship to protect her son. Nathan is an insanely jealous abuser who enjoys hurting Amelia. The King pack is determined to get revenge for the murder of their alpha, Brennan, who was Amelia’s true mate. There is tension between Amelia and Nathan, her husband and Longroad pack alpha, about her young son Dylan, and Brennan, Amelia’s murdered true mate. So she decides to kill Nathan. Stone, alpha of the King pack, vows to kill Nathan for killing his brother Brennan. An ambush takes place, but was Nathan really killed when he went over the cliff? Amelia and Dylan are captured and taken back to Stone’s pack, where they realize Dylan is Brennan’s son. Amelia wonders if she’s gone from the frying pan with Nathan to the fire with Stone, Shaw, Liam, Teresa, and Cole. The suspense and suspicion intensify as Amelia tries to fit into the King pack but Stone still doesn’t fully trust her. Amelia and the King brothers feel the mate bond connecting them and all yield to the seductive force. Finally, Stone violates Amelia’s mind and memories trying to learn the truth, so she decides to escape. But can she trust the people helping her escape or are they working with a still-living Nathan?

The Darkest Mark is an exciting fast paced book to read. The characters are very descriptive as to what role they have in the storyline. The heat level is high 10 plus for my rating scale 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥.
The main character Amelia or Amy as her friends call her; I found to be super amazing for what she went through. Watching someone you love be killed very brutally is not what one wants to see. Being forced into an unwanted marriage to a man that is the Pack Alpha and you don't love and being a mom of a small son of 4; who she loves so deeply and needs to be protected from all the dangers around them.

It has been a bit since I have read a wolf shifter book, as in they are all wolves. I forgot how much these worlds suck me in! Amelia grows so much in this book. A few years ago, she had her whole world ripped apart and she has been living in Hell since. She will do whatever it takes to survive and to protect Dylan.
Out from under her Pack's rule, she starts to blossom. She is still wary and barely lets her guard down. I feel for her, because whenever she is vulnerable, Stone comes in and messes it all up. I loved all the characters in this one. I love her growing relationship with Shaw and Cole, and I am super curious about Liam. Stone though, he may be world's biggest alphahole, but I do love him.

Amazing story with so many twists!
Totally addicting book! I completely lost myself in this world! The story is enveloping- it will suck you straight in right from the beginning. The characters are all equally strong and fierce. The villain is totally wicked (and not in the ooh la la way). May Dawson has written a group of characters that you will love and empathize with. They have all suffered a horrible loss, and don't know who or how to trust. Amelia, the FMC, is the definition of a fighter. I love how she was written. With everything she's been through, she could have been made to be meek and vulnerable; and while she may appear to be like this at first - she's literally a wolf in sheep's clothing! She is sharp, tough and unwilling to give up. She's done what she had to in order to survive, but now she's done and ready to fight. The guys (Stone, Shaw, Liam and Cole) are all loveable in their own ways. Even when making questionable choices that leave you wanting to smack them in the head, you still understand where they're coming from. I loved this story. I cried, I laughed and I was engulfed in this world. I can't wait for the next book!!

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "THE DARKEST MARK". OMG!!! What a riviting, intriguing, supense fill rollercoaster ride this story take you on so full of danger, violence, abuse, angst, revenge, secrets, emotional turmoil, heartbreak, loss, action, twist that has you turning the pages.
Amelia was on the run with her mate Brennan when the Alpha of Longroad Pack Nathan & his enforcers find them the tragic part she raking back to the pack & Brennan is gone, she's forced to marry Nathan.
Amelia was pregnant with Dylan she's been with Nathan 5yrs he so abusive to her she plans his death before he hurts Dylan, but dare steps in when their convoy is attached & Amelia & Nathan are taken by Stone Alpha of Brennan's pack they want answers as to whether she was involved in his death so shocked to see Dylan is his Son will that change things.
I definitely recommend to get this phenominally written story watching Amelia & Dylan being around Brennan's family but is she in more danger with them.
I'm so looking forward to the next book after that cliffhanger to see what happens with Amelia & Brennan's family it can't come soon enough.

Brennan many be dead but Amelia is drawn to his 3 brothers and another pack member but with suspicion, secrets and fear teh relationship was always doomed - Lots of angst, some steam and some really heart felt moments make this a very endearing read and definately leaves you wanting more.
Stand out character ( and definately some one i really want to have her own storey later as a spin off) is Brennen/stone/shaw & Liam's sister Karissa - seriously she is amazing
This book will take you through the emotional roller coaster but please read the TRIGGERS as there are events that may mean this book wont be for you - Abusive relationship & sexual situations before she gets to the King Pack.
