Sam Crescent is passionate about fiction. She loves a good erotic romance and so it only made sense for her to spread her wings and start writing. She began writing in 2009 and finally got that first acceptance in 2011 by Total-E-Bound.
She loved creating new characters and delving into the worlds that she creates. When she’s not panicking about a story or arguing with a character, she can be found in her kitchen creating all kinds of havoc. Ruin is hired to kill a woman, but as he looks at Callie's photo, he's in trouble.
He gets close to her, he even tries learning to knit for her...
So he can have an excuse to talk to Callie.
He's known to be the Bogeyman.

description

Callie is a twenty-nine years old virgin.
She's living a boring life, so why one of the mafia capo wants her dead?
The more Ruin gets to know Callie, the less it makes sense the killing order.
Now he's protecting her and trying to find out what Dante is hiding.

description

I was expecting so much more from this book.
The title was so appealing.
It has some funny parts.
The mystery around Callie and why Dante wants her dead.
But nothing of this, is enough...

A quick and steamy read about a hitman falling for his target.

This wasn't the most unique premise, but I still enjoyed it.

Keep in mind this is a fast-paced story, so everything happened very rapidly. Of course, I wouldn't have minded if it was a tad longer, this way there's more room for character and story development. But if you're looking for a quick read, this is it.

Ruin is a “problem solver” ( aka hit man) for the mafia. A man so feared by others that he achieved the nickname the “Bogeyman,” however his newest target has him stumped. Callie seems to leave a boring and solitary life so why would she be up for “termination?” Ruin is also amazed by the fact that her picture alone seems to have upended his normal routine, and after meeting her, well let’s say he doesn’t want their time to end, which is a total turnaround from his normal . I’ll admit Ruin was not who I was expecting based on his moniker. I mean he was learning how to knit to meet up with Callie, and while he justified it by saying he was learning her patterns, Ruin seems to care for Callie right off the bat. Yes he’s quite the alpha male but he does have a soft side too. But fear not, this is no weak man, and Callie for all her shy and retiring ways is strong all on her own. Those of you who have read other books by this author will not be disappointed by the steamy hot romance with the two leads, I just wish it was a little longer. Still a nice hot and quick romance with strong alpha male vibes, tender moments, humor (did you not hear me say he was trying to learn to knit?), and in my opinion a great epilogue. 4.5 stars . I voluntarily read and reviewed an arc copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

Classic premise with hitman/target.
Where I lost interest is in the two dimensional characters and clichéd storytelling.
This truly felt like a first draft in need of serious developmental editing.

Knit one, pearl two

Who knew a mafia romance could be so sweet! I love that hardcore Ruin is felled by a glimpse of a woman in a photo. He may be the bogeyman of the mafia, but he has a brain and belongs to no group. Callie is a super sweetheart who is trying to spread her wings, and together they are this amazing couple who are perfect for each other. But, as with all of this author’s books, not without a little bit of danger and emotional angst first. This book is another gem in the author’s library and I look forward to reading more throughout the new year.

Ruin is the man they call to end things, and his next target is Callie. But when Ruin sees Callie things don't add up, why would anyone want her dead. Callie lives a quite and uneventful life, until Ruin comes along, but can she trust him? Well written steamy, hitman, possesive, stalker romance.

I am voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book.

Callie lives a solitary life and has done for the last nine years but that was before she stumbled on to something that she shouldn’t have when she worked for Dante Moretti a feared man within the mafia. After she was fired she has worked hard to blend into the background and stay off everyone’s radar, her only excitement is her knitting club in the park, even when she promised her mum on her death bed that she would live not just exist, so when she meets Ruin she decides to finally let someone in and it isn’t long until she falls for him in a way that she never knew existed. But who is this man that has come to be her everything and is he someone that she can put her trust in or is he her ultimate downfall?

Ruin is no ones knight in shining armour, he has spent his life and reputation proving how and why he is such a feared hitman, but the day that Callie’s file arrived in his mail box he was caught in her trap from that moment and he knew that he had to know all there was to know about this woman who had ensnared him with just a photograph. Meeting her was the easy part when he discovered knitting club in the park, the more he learned the more obsessed he became, what could this innocent woman have done to make her a target, placing himself in her life to protect her became his mission but falling in love with her was something that he had no control over. How long can Ruin hide who he truly is and when Callie discovers why he is in her life will she give him another chance or cut him out of her life forever?

I am a massive fan of this author each book is super steamy, with an alpha male that rivals most and a heroine that thinks she is weak but so much stronger than she realizes. I did love how Ruin was trying to knit that gave me a giggle thinking of him in my mind’s eye. Recommended 4.5* read.

3.75stars THE BOGEYMAN’S WOMAN by Sam Crescent is a stand alone, contemporary adult, Mafia romance story line focusing on forty-five year old, assassin for hire Ruin aka The Bogeyman, and thirty year old, financial analyst Callie Lawson.

Told from dual third person perspectives THE BOGEYMAN’S WOMAN focuses on the contract to take down our story line heroine. Ruin is an assassin for hire. Known as the Bogeyman, Ruin’s latest assignment is financial analyst Callie Lawson but the more Ruin got to know Callie, he wondered why the order came from the top. Ruin never expected to fall for our story line heroine but Callie’s low-keyed life didn’t make sense with a target on her back. What ensues is the building romance and relationship, and the potential fall-out when the truth is revealed.

Callie Lawson has lived a quiet life on her own but never expected to find herself falling for the man who quite possibly could end her life. Feeling betrayed, Callie will push Ruin out of her life but life is about to take another turn when another assassin is sent to finish the job.

The relationship between Callie and Ruin is predicated upon a lie. Ruin is contracted to kill our story line heroine but quickly falls for the woman that will steal his heart. A fast paced, quick building romance abruptly ends with the destruction of Callie’s heart. The $ex scenes are passionate.

The secondary and supporting characters include Callie’s boss and capo Dante Morelli, and head of the Giordano Mafia Aldo Giordano.

THE BOGEYMAN’S WOMAN is a story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, secrets and lies, acceptance and forgiveness. The premise is engaging and inviting; the romance is seductive and intense: the characters are charismatic, struggling and magnetic.

Review of The Bogeyman's Woman by Sam Crescent
* * * * *
Things get deadly hot in this erotic romance and things get wonderfully complicated!

Ruin was supposed to kill her. A woman with no family, no friends, no coworkers who would have cared if she didn't turn up to work, not even a nosy neighbour to stick his nose into her business. A woman who was completely invisible to the world even if she was sitting right next to them.
It should have been a simple job.
Now he's sitting next to her...on a park bench...in her knitting club.
The dark haired, blue-eyed beauty had captured him.
He was falling for her kind heart, her beauty...and craving her curves.
Callie was not a woman who seized the moment. It was rare for her to even try and be social willingly. It scares her when suddenly the tall, built, tattooed hunk in her knitting class was talking to her. Not only that. Asking her out on a date?
He makes her crave for more.
She's twenty-nine and a virgin. She's not experienced in the field of flirting, but it's clear Ruin wants her and she's quite happy to fall for him.
However, the contractor is pushing for her death.
Callie knows some. Has stolen something. Has crossed a line. Now she was in danger.
Ruin had to save her...even if her finding out the truth would have her hate him forever.

A wonderfully delicious creation yet again by Sam Crescent. I really enjoyed Callie's character, as she was truly almost invisible. Not just a girl who shut herself away and thought she was not seen by anyone. She really was just in the bakground unnoticed by many. Ruin's backstory was sad and fantastic, building to his grown character and the new roles he takes. Plus I could totally see him kill a man with knitting needles. Just for shticks and giggles.

Ruin is a cruel and ruthless hitman that crime bosses call when someone needs to be whacked. He’s called the Bogeyman for good reason, as he excels at his job. When he’s hired to take out this beautiful innocent woman, Callie Lawson, he feels compelled to find out more about her first. He’s never questioned getting rid of any his previous targets but he is drawn to Callie. She’s beautiful and radiates innocence. How could she be a threat to the notorious Dante Morelli? She’s just a quiet introverted hard worker that spends her extra time reading or knitting. She’s a loner. Ruin can’t figure out why he’s so drawn to her but he’s going to find out. Sparks fly, and it isn’t long before Ruin makes a romantic move on Callie. She’s so innocent that he takes all of her firsts — and she falls in love with him. Her heart is broken when she realizes Ruin lied about everything. He’s going to have to move mountains to protect Callie and convince her that despite every lie, he truly cares for her.

Callie was a super sweet heroine. She was really just so innocent despite her intelligence level. I definitely rolled my eyes a few times at how naive she was, but I adore stories where the bad boy gets the good girl. I’m so glad the author made Ruin grovel over a period of time and prove himself. The steam was fabulous and their chemistry was so good!

Tropes: Contemporary romance, mafia romance, hitman, instalove, age gap, virgin heroine, pregnancy, happily-ever-after
Heat: 3/5.

This was a short read, but I was not left feeling unsatisfied. What a game of cat
and mouse this was, with Callie being the mouse and Ruin the cat. Ruin was an
interesting character and I enjoyed peeling back the layers to uncover how his
past provided the foundation for his future. He had no moral compass and did
not hesitate to follow through with his spine-chilling agenda. That was, until
Callie became his next target. She dominated his thoughts and made him feel
alive. His protective instincts to keep Callie safe took over from what he was
hired to do.

Callie was a sad character and my heart ached for her lonely existence. She had no idea that she was to be Ruin’s next victim. She was wary of Ruin’s but it
wasn't long before she enjoyed his attention. I struggled initially to understand
why Callie had a hit on her as it was not made clear until near the end of the book. She struggled when she learned about Ruin’s dark brutal profession but he was relentless in his endeavors to win back her love.

This was not only a dark, raw, intense read that portrayed a shadowy criminal
underworld, it was also a love story. I enjoyed the candid insight of this couple
as they struggled to navigate their relationship with all of its ups and downs.
Ruin did not suddenly become a model citizen, but Callie was able to push it
away and enjoy their growing family.

“She was going to die. He was going to be the one to kill her. End of story.”

This is a great, albeit short, love story between two people who seemingly couldn’t be more different, but have more in common than it would appear. Both Ruin and Callie were lonely and in many way living in very isolated worlds. Callie existed on the outskirts of live mostly due to her natural shy personality and as a hitman, Ruin obviously had a non-existent circle of real friends. I adored them both and loved how they brought the best out in each other. I especially adored Ruin who was so completely out of his element falling in love. Not as much angst as Sam often writes but this is still not in any way a light story. The epilogue was especially sweet as we see how time in a loving relationship has given both of them a happiness neither ever expected.

Lately Sam has been hit or miss but this one is definitely a winner. You’ll need to overlook all the editing errors but that’s typical in almost all her books. If that’s something that really bothers you then go read something else. I feel most of the time the wonderful characters are an acceptable trade off and have read probably three quarters of her books. Some I love better than others. This one definitely goes in the very good pile and I recommend it without hesitation.

Man Sam is coming out swinging when it comes to book for the new year.
She's not playing any games!

Callie Lawson lives her life slowly fading away. After losing her parents 9 years prior she's never made another connection to a person and in many cases if asked about her people would say "Callie who?"
So what is it that she could've done to warrant a capo to send the Bogeyman to kill her?
This is what Ruin has to figure out. But to do so he must break all his rules and actualy get to know his mark. However, things backfire when he gets to know Callie and becomes even more confused on what this sweet woman has done and why he's suddenly feeling very protective of her.
When all the secrets Ruin's kept hidden from Callie come out will she be able to forgive him? Or has Ruin overestimated Callie's forgiving nature?

I absolutely loved Callie and Ruin. Both of these characters live in the shadows in their own way. While Callie's living like this of her own doing, it's necessary for Ruin and his business to be in the shadows.

Heated romance novella…

To say the circumstances of their meeting was unusual, is like aying the sky is purple with pink spots. Seriously, one of the more wild starts to any courtship I have ever read… For that alone, I was hooked.

Ruin had a job to do and Callie was it. Stunned by simply her photograph, meeting her set alarm bells off for him right away. And for Callie. Why was he really pursuing her? And that, fellow readers, was the crux of it, and maybe their doomed failure…

Ruin and Callie, despite their very core differences, were the same in so many ways. Closed off from the world and the people in it. Focused. Honest (for the most part). I was intrigued. And that kept me busy waiting for the shoe drop because that shoe was going to drop. Hard…

This author knows how to paint a picture quickly and with all sorts of colour. Does it follow the rhythm and style of books written previously? Yes. Would I read it again? Absolutely! Likable characters, entertaining and light (despite the dangerous world and company they both kept), there was steam galore. A fun, quick read.

*I happily reviewed this story

Ruin is a hit man. But he works for himself and doesn’t answer to anyone. So when one of the capo leaders of the mafia hires him for a job, seems like their might be a bit of problem. He doesn’t understand why he would want Callie Lawson dead. She seems like a nobody, doesn’t have family, friends or anyone in her life. So being attracted to her is kind of putt a stop on his killing her…

Callie Lawson lives a quiet life and that’s how she likes it. But she made a promise to her mother that she would live her life. Go out and make friends. Meeting Ruin seems like maybe she needs to step out of her comfort zone. But something just feels too good to be true for her… Can a relationship last that is built on a lie??

Sam’s first story for the new year was a good start. I enjoyed the bit of suspense. Ruin was trying to find out why the mafia wanted Callie dead. But in the meantime, he was starting to fall in love with her. Ruin’s past totally made me fall in love with him and his character 😊 Callie couldn’t understand why Ruin wanted to be with her, but he was persistent. Loved the characters and enjoyed the storyline.

What happens when a man like Ruin is contracted to kill a woman? For one, he wants to know her. Why does the Capo want her dead? Callie Lawson keeps to herself. Knits little things for children and babies even dogs. She has a kind heart. What would be the reason to eliminate her? Callie was an invisible woman, but what was the reason for Dante Morelli wanting her dead? Ruin does find out but he was in no rush. Callie had captured his heart and he didn’t even expect that. Now he was protecting her and would remove anyone trying to take her from him. You have to love a bad guy turning good. Yeah, Ruin still is a killer but he does have a conscious. Although keeping it from Callie is costly. She is a sweetheart. I know some will see her as a push over but she is a woman that works hard and causes no problems. She just was in the wrong place at the wrong time. They are a great couple.

What a great start to 2023! I LOVED this story. Ruin is called The Bogeyman for a reason. A hitman you never see coming. When Ruin is called upon to clean up a mess, it may be one he can't do. Callie, a woman who just exists, you can't really say lives, in virtual anonymity. The only thing she has is her knitting. She promised her Mom before she died that she would live her life. Callie finds a knitting group and joins it. She stays, on the outskirts of the group, not really interacting. Ruin, shows up to the knitting group looking to learn how to knit. He sits near Callie and asks her for help. As he gets to know her, he realizes something is off. There has to be more to the order to kill her. What could she possibly have done to have a mafia cap want her dead?As he gets to know her, he realizes two things. He is falling for her and needs to find out the truth about why she is on his hit list. When the truth comes out, will they survive ?

Ruin is known as The Bogeyman. He is an assassin and does most of his work for the mob. A capo hires him to kill a woman. Callie has no family, no friends, and works a boring job. Her only hobby is knitting. She thinks she's plain and she stays in the background. While knitting in the park she meets Ruin. Ruin can't figure out why the capo wants her dead but one look and he has no intention of killing her. Callie can't believe this sexy man is interested in her but when she finds out the real reason they meet, she is devastated. Will she forgive him and live happily ever after?

Short book. A killer and a lonely woman. I thought there needed to be more about why the capo wanted her dead and what she was doing. That might not make sense but I don't want to give anything away.

Ruin, aka the Bogeyman, has been hired to take out a woman, normally that is not something he would have a problem with. But his current target, Callie Lawson, there is nothing about the woman that would put her on a hit list. She has a boring life, she works and knits and nothing else. He has to find out if she is hiding something, there is no way he can kill her.

Callie has avoiding living life, sitting on the fringe of group, staying the back ground. When a man shows up and asks her to help her learn to knit, she cannot believe he talked to her. There is something about Ruin that make her want to live.

When the man who hired Ruin gets tired of waiting for him to do his job, will he be able to save Callie in time? How will she handle the truth of how the met?.

Callie and Ruin meet when he approaches her in a park during a knitting group. Ruin attempts to get closer to Callie by working the knitting angle, which I found hilarious. Ruin does some pretty sneaky and shady stuff to try to get closer to Callie. Despite Ruin's behavior there are some pretty funny parts in the story. There is some violence and action to the story but nothing to dark or over the top. I liked that Ruin knew something was off and went the extra mile to find out what was really going on. I was also surprised by Callie and the "gumption" she showed toward the end of the story.

This felt very cliched - hitman falls in love with his mark who is sweet and innocent and the one who called the hit is the bad guy. We know it from the very first page, how the story is going to go which is not a bad thing but I found the h, a bit sad and passionless. I can't see at all, what the H sees in her. She is an introvert but the way we are shown that she is an introvert is really quite sad... she knits and joins a knitting group but doesn't sit with or talk to anyone in the group. She had promised her mom that she would try and do things and this is the extent of it. I usually fly through a Crescent book, but this one missed the mark.

Interesting premise. I think the book could have been finessed with tighter editing although my copy is an ARC so that may be in its immediate future. The beginning of the story felt stilted but it seemed to settle in after the first third of the book. The author needs to find alternatives to " his lips slammed onto hers" since this phrase was used almost any time there was a kiss. . It's too bad the story was so short since I think the characters could have been developed further. This is my first book by this author and I am interested to read other books she has written.

Ruin is a contract killer known as The Bogeyman and his next target is Callie—only he is not targeting her to off her like he is supposed to. He is completely drawn to her from the first photo. She has no clue how to really interact with people, especially men. She lives her life on the outer edges of everything. He kind of bulldozes his way in and won’t let go. Their secrets eventually come out and some individuals need dealt with in his job as The Bogeyman. He is very sweet to her. Cute ending, though there are other forms of birth control than listed! I really liked the story.

Ruin is a hitman for the mafia and his latest job is a woman. Callie lives a simple life and has no clue that she is in danger. Ruin gets close to her to learn more about her because it doesn't feel right to just kill her. What he learns only makes him questions things further. Things between him and Callie heat up and get complicated. What will happen when she learns how he came to be in her life?

I love this authors books pulls you in to the story from page one. they call him the Bogeyman he is an assassin to hire and his own boss some would love him to fully work for them in the mafia world. Dante has a job for Ruin he wants him to kill Callie Lawson but what he does not understand is why she a loner but a very beautiful woman, so he gets close to her, but he knows that something is not right why kill her so while he is enjoying her company, he digs deeper not going to say anymore but so recommend this authors books

I’m a sucker for mafia Age-Gap romance with spice 🔥🔥 and this story pulled me in right from the beginning.

Ruin needs to kill a woman… Callie
A beautiful woman with blue eyes and raven hair.
He is the one they call when they need to clean up a mess. He's the bogeyman.
But Callie Lawson is one target he doesn’t think he can handle.

The connection between Ruin and Callie was developed nicely, I still can't believe The boogeyman can be this patient, it's so hot.

This would have been a great full book

Ruin gets an order to kill a woman named Calli Lawson when he looks into Calli he cannot find a reason why there would be the order. He though has taken a liking to her and decides to protect her because there are others after her as well. As Calli finds out she slowly has feelings for Ruin as well and once she begins to fall for him she finds out that he originally was the one to kill her and that breaks her heart. See if these two can work things out. This was a good book with good character. I received this book from Netgalley.com

This story started off as a mystery for Ruin as to why he was hired to assassinate Callie. She was beyond sweet and shy and introverted. An innocent. Ruin couldn't get over her photo and started falling for her right away. He needed to solve the mystery of Callie and decide from there what to do... I absolutely love that he joined her outdoor knitting class to gain her trust but, sadly, when his truths came out, she was devastated and dropped him. This became a rough ride but love prevailed and they got their HEA. Good fun!

Ruin found his ruin. That was funny but it's true. He was ruined for good because he fell for the woman he was supposed to remove from this world.

I liked the story and I sympathize with the MC, I feel sorry for the life he had but he survived and he grew strong but not in the way we would find acceptable. But the one thing I loved about him is despite the life he lead, he loved and protected his family.

I liked this story about a hitman hired to kill a docile woman. She doesn't fit the profile of someone that would screw over the mob. Things, simply aren't adding up for him, so Ruin decides to take matters into his own hands by getting close to the subject. The more he finds out about her, the more he decides to do everything in his power to protect her—even from him. Recommended: Read It!

This is a Sam Crescent story that includes the usual tropes, the heroine in this story is very sweet and I liked her.
