The Academy of the Profane has been a dream for my twin and myself for ages.
I'm a young god pretending to be a witch and she's a Hellhound. We're twins, but we have different fathers. There's not really a curriculum for either of us, but after hearing my mom and aunt's stories, we can't wait to go as a rite of passage. The headmaster hates me and personally sued me when I was a teenager for inheriting something she thought she was owed. Her daughter is now in class with us and she's completely terrible.
Something is also very wrong here. The God of Death is my history teacher. They said they made a promise to my mother years before i was born to tutor me in all the god things my dad might not know, but that's not why they are here.
The God of Death is here teaching history because they have a bad feeling. They said every few decades or so, they get a bad feeling surrounding the Academy of the Profane, but by the time they get here, students have already died before their time.
And if it's been going on this long. it means a fellow god has gone bad

I really liked this one. It was fun, and I'm excited to read the next book. The only thing that confused me was all the names. I couldn't seem to keep them straight.
This could have been amazing if it was written better unfortunately I was interested and had to DNF half way through when the writing style didn’t improve
When I get a new Trepagnier book I know I can always count on it being steamy, entertaining, a little mysterious, and funny as hell. Her new book The Goddess is Awakened was everything I knew it would be.
The Goddess is Awakened is the first book in The Academy of the Profane series, not only is it set in the Profane world but there are character updates from the previous Profane series because this book is centered on George, one of Ripley's (Library of the Profane) twin daughters. I love that this universe is so connected. So far there are three series, (this will be the fourth) and one standalone and the characters all interact. This can be read as a series by itself but warning it will spoil you for the previous series. I still suggest checking them out because JB has done a fantastic job creating this universe.
The MFC George has her twin Matilda right beside her. The girls have a strong bond and being Gemini twins each is powerful in her own right. Matilda is a hellhound shifter who is flirty and bold while George is a powerful God who is reserved and studious. Their loving parents raised them right, they are calm in the face of adversity and stand up to bullies. They know how to handle and do the right thing, plus they have their parents' sense of humor. I love that they come from a big loving family.
This is George's story and she has quite the collection of possible love interests, and there are a lot. First, there's Church, a rare vampire with stalker tendencies, and West, the most adorable Lion shifter ever (he's my favorite). These two fell hard and fast. Sol, is the mysterious one. Then there are the three that were playing hard to get with George and she didn't even know it. Drake has a vendetta against witches and is lonely because of it. Ren is a kitsune who hates drama (yeah, right) and his boyfriend Oscar is an artist with a good head on his shoulders. For one reason or another, they didn't even want to try to get to know George until they did. Finally, there is a student/Professor relationship with Death themselves. Azren is extremely intelligent, an Academic who likes to ask hard questions, uncovers new theories, and loves to teach.
The Academy is front and center in this story. The four different houses are represented by the elements and they have a points system. The magic classes are cool and some interesting things go down in Magical combat. There of course the typical academy things like mean girls, pranks, and with Profane, ghosts, and moon oregies. There's a big mystery surrounding periodic deaths on campus that Azren is trying his best to solve not to mention Sol is trying to solve the mystery that is himself. Things get even more interesting with the different types of supernaturals, George figuring out her magic, the relationship dynamics, magical desserts, and supernatural dodgeball.
The Goddess is Awakened was awesome, I knew it would be. I love that we're back in the Profane world but with a lot of cool checkpoints like unique magic, girl drama, hexes, adorable guys, new mythology, and family. The story ends on one heck of a cliffhanger, I have so many questions. I can't wait for the next book.
The story, when it's there, is just intriguing enough to continue reading to figure out what's going on. There's two different lines, well five if you separate them - but some are part of one.
- a god that doesn't know her powers and hiding her true supernatural 'species' (George - the FMC) - the God of Death teaching because they keep feeling massive death feelings for the college, but keep missing it, and to help figure out George's main power - some (non) random dude that keeps going to the college every time the deaths happen, but doesn't know anything & is a puzzle because of lack of power (or something) - another guy, that's with Death in a way, trying to figure out what happened to his mother while she was at the college - Oh, and then the massive deaths that have been going on for ages.
This is a whole lot of explaining and telling, repeatedly. The first two chapters we are told three times (within a handful of pages) that their mother is the librarian of The Library of Profane. That doesn't seem bad, but -every-thing is repeated throughout the book multiple times.
Some chapters, including the very first one, is a background info-dump - that, again, is often repeated numerous times throughout the whole book. There was also a lot of 'mind-blowing' and 'epic acts of revenge' (in some form) in every chapter, if not on the same page.
I think the book would have been shorter if the filler/repeated information had been removed. Every time a character was mentioned, some kind of history was given for the character - which had already been stated other times.
I'll probably read the next to see where the story is going.
So good. A big mystery to be solved. A murder of a students happens regularly at the Academy of the Profane. Who is doing it. There is the mysterious Janitor who has no magic but is not a Null. He feels like he should have magic and he has gaps of time he does not remember. The God of Death is there to investigate and is finally there before it happens will they be able to solve the mystery before it happens again. There is a goddess pretending to be a witch and is making a coven unintentional. What happens she has her full power. I love all the characters. Such amazing group of different types of supernatural. Also a character is there to solve the death of his Mom, it happened after she left the Academy because something that happened while she was there. He does not like George, will he learn to like her. This ends in a cliffhanger.

Specifically George, born Tempest, who’s father was the god of Chaos, and who is off to school at the Academy of the Profane with her twin Matilda, her familiar Mags, and a whole lot of young hormonal supernatural beings. Azren, the god of Death, is teaching history, plus there’s lion shifter West, deaf brujo Oscar, kitsune Ren, energy vampire Church, basilisk Drake and Sol, the maintenance man with a long past and some unanswered questions. This book introduces them all, as well as an ancient mystery. I enjoyed the chaos and the energy in this book - it’s fast paced and there’s plenty going on, just a bit tricky to keep track of all the characters. I’m excited to see what happens next!
The Goddess is Awakened by JB Trepagnier. Book 1 of The Academy of the Profane. I'm a young god pretending to be a witch, and she's a Hellhound. We're twins, but we have different fathers. There's not really a curriculum for either of us, but after hearing my mom and aunt's stories, we can't wait to go as a rite of passage. The headmaster hates me and personally sued me when I was a teenager for inheriting something she thought she was owed. Her daughter is now in class with us and is completely terrible. I really did enjoy this book. Great story. I loved george and Matilda. I didn’t like Minerva or Kaylee at all. I also liked West Sol Gabriel Dexter Oscar and Balthazar. I'm looking forward to the next book. 5*.
This is my first read into this ‘world’ and I loved every minute. You have gods, shifters, angels, pixies, the supernatural world is well represented here! George and her twin Matilda don’t share a father, but along with their familiar they have had since birth they are off to college. Many twists and turns meet them there, along with a bully from their childhood.
GREAT read, keeps you entertain, easy to follow the story. I can’t wait to read more in this series and will definitely be checking out the previous ones too!!.

Disclaimer: I’ve read the other profane series and loved them. This one? Not so much. Let me explain why.
The MCs were all very surface level and there was no real development or relationship between them.
There was A LOT of background info. Every single page was a solid 25% backstory, history, or some other nonsense. There was so much mythology and so many extra side characters that it left no room for true character development and it was hard to keep up how everyone was related to everyone else.
Again, I loved the other Profane series, but this one came up REAL short.
Matilda and George are twin daughters of the same mother but different fathers - and students at the Academy of the Profane. Love this!! The characters are amazing, and as I have read the previous series as well, the mentions of those characters adds to the enjoyment. Cliff hanger ending, lots of dramas, twists and turns, and awesome that the head mistress and her saughter get their come-uppance! Cant wait for the next book!.

An exciting start to a new Profane series! This visit to the world of the Profane does not disappoint - George (our delightful FMC) along with her twin sister Matilda and an assorted cast of supernaturals start another twisted and exciting tale. Funny, snarky, and full of mystery - this is an academy story like no other! Beware the cliffhanger, but it's all worth it - I will be waiting impatiently for the next installment.

Trepagnier and The Profane World never disappoint. Wonderful, clever characters, an entertaining storyline full of mystery, humour, drama, steam and surprises, not to mention a cliffhanger ending. George and Matilda are unique and spirited sisters making changes at the Profane Academy, love seeing characters from previous books and can’t wait for the next one of this series - have got to see what they get up to next!.

This was a great start to this new series within this world. I have no idea who or what the killer is. And love the new Gemini twins. This book seemed to revolve around George and her possible coven that's forming. I assume that at some point we will get things from her sister Matilda's point of view and whoever she decides to be with, being a hellhound I'm not sure how they form a pack? Can't believe we didn't even get a date for the next book. It better not take as long as this book did to come out
Wonderful start to th Ed most recent World of the Profane. This one is set in the academy as the twins and their brother navigate the complex politics of the magical world.
There’s intrigue and drama and coming age in a convoluted population of supernatural creatures. Returning characters make it like old home week. Great world building and character development.
I loved this and couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait to read the next book. Definitely recommend.

It’s a good storyline and I enjoy the characters. The only upset was that it was slow to start and the author had the characters keep repeating the same information over and over again till like 3/4 of the book. I think the ending was way better formatted and got to where it needed to be. I am glad I didn’t just quit on the book and finish to the end. I hope the next book is way better at moving along and getting into the action that was missing in this one in the beginning. Anyways, enjoy, the ending for sure is the redemption. :)
Absolutely Fantastic. I really enjoyed this book. It was a little confusing with trying to figure out who is who in the beginning. Except for the twins and Azren. There is a small cliffhanger but nothing bad. It is bringing up a lot of questions of who did it and didn't. I'm excited to read more of thus series.

As usual I enjoyed this author’s work,I was on the fence about weather or not I was going to like it. There was a bit of talk about non binary characters trans people and gay characters that’s not what I usually search out in rh. So far I enjoy the storyline and the characters. I’m a little bummed that the other twin is a lesbian because if she gets her own book that will be all ff and I’m definitely not interested in that.
JB Trepagnier, I love the amazing world you have created and all of the series' connections. The characters are fascinating and well developed and with every page I read I was pulled into the story. I loved the twins and the story filled with mystery, multiple love interests, humor, and all the amazing characters we met along the way to a cliffhanger ending. I can't wait to read the next book in The Academy of the Profane series. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
I do not understand the high ratings of this book. This does not makes sense whatsoever. I finished it but I struggled all the way with a hope it will get better. It did not. My main pet peave is that there is too much telling and too little showing. Everything we need to know is told in a dialogue, whereas I prefer situations where you see the relationship development. I did not care for George nor for any of her guys. So no more of this series for me.
JB Trepagnier does not disappoint in this spinoff The Academy of the Profane. Her characters have their own minds and they intertwine perfectly together. I love the twins how bold they are, but how humble they are as well. This series just got started and I can’t wait for the others.

Omg, I'm dying wanting to know the mysterious answers. This book is beautiful and i can't wait to read more. I've read 2 of the previous series so when the arc came out for this one, I jumped at the chance to review it. I absolutely love this author and world. I laughed as much as I drooled. Can't wait for more
You are immediately drawn back into Profane and never want to leave. The twins are now all grown up and going to college. One twist though is that George does not know exactly what her power is. She has hidden something her entire life and now is leery to reveal it. I would love to see more with some other characters and cannot wait to see more with George and her coven.

I have read everything this author has written and I was definitely not disappointed. This book was everything I had hoped for in a story. It's brilliant, funny, entertaining and full of mysterious goings on. I can't wait for the next book to see how this one is going to turn out. It's fabulous.

This had me hooked from the very start. An exciting academy read that’s full of drama, danger, suspense and mythology. Our twins are great characters, snarky, sassy and full of mystery and with each page I found myself drawn in even more. Captivating, engaging, this was incredible and I look forward to more!
Haven’t read it. Thought it looked right up my alley when I saw KU advertise it as a supernatural/fantasy reverse harem and then came to find it on Goodreads. Ratings are really great so then I read the blurb and … it sucks. I could barely get through the synopsis without rolling my eyes. I’m honestly shocked it has such high ratings just based on the write up. Won’t be reading this one
Loved this book, I have been wanting more insight into the Academy of the Profane for a long time now. Love the dynamic between George and her twin. Vibrant world-building as usual for Trepagnier, and love seeing my favorite characters again from past series. This book has mystery, romance, intrigue, and some suspense.
