Meanwhile, Adrestus enacts the final stages of his plan, positioning himself to subjugate all of civilization. Fast paced YA with a lot of heart!

This book closes out the trilogy with a satisfying ending. We get more time with the interesting side characters (especially the baddies!), which I loved. The author writes dialogue very well and the characters are great. The budding romance between Sammy and Wes is so sweet 🥺

The trope of super old supernatural man and teenage girl (like in Twilight and any romance book with fairies lol) is dealt with in a very thoughtful way. I won't say more to avoid spoilers but I like the author's exploration of how predatory that actually is.

I'm kinda sad the series is over but looking forward to what the author does next !!

This trilogy had me from the first chapter. Epsilon has a slightly different tone to the first two books but it's in perfect keeping with the storyline and necessary to push it to it's conclusion.

Although lengthy, these books are action packed, heart stopping and heart breaking as Samantha navigates life as a teen without superpowers like her friends, while a power-hungry villian rises against the world.

The narrator is perfect. She gives individual voice to every character and delivers emotions flawlessly - and there's plenty of them. At times, I was rolling my eyes as Samantha threw herself into yet another situation with little or no true thought (despite her intentions), but every emotion is touched upon during Epsilon and I was more than happy for the ride.

Without giving spoilers, I loved the end. Anything else would have been a disservice to characters and readers alike.

There's no way I can give this anything other than 5 stars. Whether you normally like YA or not, if you like super hero stories like the X-Men, well thought out, real characters who grow with the story, and action to keep you turning the page, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Apex Cycle.

What a wild ride this series was. It definitely felt like the stakes were at their absolute highest and the tension was at its peak throughout.

The story was captivating and felt like it was playing out on a huge movie screen in my mind. I could see the action, and hear the raging waters. If this never gets a movie trilogy I'd be astonished, I really would.

If I had to choose a negative to balance the overwhelming positives of this book, and I really am nitpicking here, I'd say by the end, the threat of death felt less impactful. If you've read it you might know what I mean by that, but I won't spoil anything.

But again, the series is amazing. Delta remains my favourite of the trilogy but all 3 books are an easy 5 stars.

This is the first time in my 36 years on this planet where I've been compelled to read 3 x 600+ page books back to back without a break. If that doesn't tell you what you need to know then I don't know what will.

I need a lot of time to ponder the correct words for what I've just read.

This is the easiest five stars I've given since reading Empire of the Vampire and is the ULTIMATE piece of modern superhero fiction.

Can I get my passport stamp for New Delos already?! Three cheers and five enthusiastic stars for Epsilon, the grand finale of the Apex Cycle by @MTZimny! The final installment is a crazy ride full of emotions and twists that live up to those of books one and two. There are very few books that have actually made me cry, and I can happily say this is one of them for all the best reasons. This emotional rollercoaster is full of AHHHH but also so many laughs and heartwarming moments. I'm not ready for it to be over!

Something Zimny does exceedingly well is making me care about each of her characters. I even became endeared to some of the villains I was supposed to hate, and more than once I wondered (despite knowing his master plan) if the main villain was actually right, until I remembered what he was actually doing. But even better, I want to be friends with the protagonists. Their emotions and situations feel more real and relatable than those of most YA characters, which so often feel like cardboard. Despite being a group of super-powered teenagers, they still have the same problems as normal highschool or early college students. They are well developed with unique personalities, histories, and dreams. If you're like me, you'll want to join Apex team as much as you want to sit at dinner at Bag End, join a Hogwarts House, or get powers like one of the X Men.

Something I love is how often the protagonists actually they lose - in so much YA, the teenagers win every fight against every adult and evil oppressive government, so this felt so much more realistic. I loved seeing how their personalities, powers, and relationships evolved.

Zimny deeefinitely ramps up the action and excitement in Epsilon! The fights are bigger, the stakes are higher, and the losses are so much more intense and painful, but the victories are so much sweeter too. Take what you love from Beta and Delta and amplify it by a hundred. I could picture each of the fights and crazy moments with vivid clarity.

Something else Zimny does well is featuring and embracing meaningful diversity and avoiding harmful tropes or stereotypes. There is LGBT representation, POC characters, and representation for people with disabilities.

Featuring a school full of superheroes, the Apex Cycle feels like a mixture of Professor Xavier's school and Hogwarts while having its own unique take on the 'powered school' trope, which Zimny does very well. It was my favorite part of the world building, apart from certain spoilery flashbacks.

Epsilon is an exciting, wonderful finale that wraps up all the loose ends and storylines while still leaving it open to a potential sequel (PLEASE). I'm excited to see what exists in the world beyond New Delos and the future of each of these characters. I'd love to see them in college and beyond. I think these characters will have a bright future, as will Zimny through her career as a wonderfully talented indie author. The Apex cycle has a earned a permanent place on my bookshelf as a favorite YA series!

As far as trilogies go, this one sticks the super hero landing.

The epic, bloody conclusion to the Apex Cycle.

M.T. Zimney and Elizabeth Phillips are a force to be reckoned with in the audiobook world. Elizabeth adds a ton of gravity to MT's writing across each book and I cannot say enough good things about her performance.

The stakes are high in this book, and MT continues to torment the characters you love and offs a delightful number of characters giving weight to the actions and story.

Characters are flawed, heroic, and well grounded in motivations and history. Plot twists and foreshadowing abound and all pay off beautifully with masterful execution, and even some lovely redemption arcs.

Furthermore, this is a first person YA book series which takes a LOT to win me over, but win me over they have.
My only gripe, in the entire series though is not a major one and I hope it doesn't overshadow my praise but it did keep me from a 5 star rating. Is I do not feel like Sammy as a character really grew. For the entire series, she is self sacrificial and running foolishly into danger, which are great character elements. But, the story always rewards these actions of hers and while characters berate her for it, and she has guilt over some of the results, she doesn't seem to grow or learn from these, rather, her friends protest but then always just accept her actions and tag along. A lot of this could be argued as due to the conflicting memories and amnesia the character endures, but by the end I feel like it wasnt. I really liked Sammy in books one and and two, but by the end of this one I'm not so sure I do. Which, if that was the intent, well done!
Overall, a wonderful and refreshing superhero story and I can't wait to see what MT dives into next.

This is the BEST series EVER.

As someone who prefers realistic fiction, when I first began this sci-fi series, I wasn't expecting to be obsessed with it. Little did I know, it would quickly become my all-time favorite series, with each book an individual favorite as well.

I've grown so attached to the characters in this series that they felt like real people to me, and it's hard to let them go. I even got attached to the villains, of all characters. I will miss anticipating each plot twist and spending time in the fictional world of New Delos.

All sentimentality aside, everyone should go read this book. It's great for sci-fi lovers and non-sci-fi lovers. Reluctant readers and seasoned readers. Young adults and adults, maybe even middle grade readers (this series is very clean except for fantasy violence). It combines realistic teenage elements with sci-fi and mythological concepts expertly, and along with engaging plot twists, an immersive setting, and lovable characters, this series is the epitome all book series. Read it today because I need some fanart or movies or something.

If you are looking for a top-tier series with every single major literary device executed perfectly, this is the one for you.

I sure will miss my time reading this. Although I probably will reread it again soon. Definitely.

What a fantastic conclusion to what has been a fraught and tension filled series. The stakes just keep getting higher and each book brings new challenges and struggles to the characters. This one opens with an intriguing twist; Sammy has no memory of her past at all. This strangely worked really well, particularly as it cut out the flashback scenes which were one of my few detractors in the previous books. It also meant existing relationships were side-lined and so previously minor characters got far more focus time.

There's no doubt about it, this author loves to torment and torture his characters and this book is no exception. Whilst the first half of it seems fairly slow with nothing major going on, when it gets into the grove it really gets into the groove. Sammy not having her memories for the majority of the book makes her seem like a different character, although by the end of the novel you still want to sit on her because she never bloody learns and still runs off headlong into danger without a plan or thought to the friends left behind. She's a character who drives me mad; self sacrificing to the point of selfishness.

I really enjoyed the finale to this series. It's action filled, the characters leap off the page at you and you can't help but laugh and cry along with them. The stakes are high and the losses real and painful. The characters - other than Sammy, who stays the same headstrong teenage muppet - develop well through the novels and there are some twists and turns that took it in unexpected directions and really bolstered the character development of characters I had virtually overlooked. All in all, an excellent conclusion to the series and one that finishes strong.

Even if this wasn't my favorite within the trilogy, it did deliver a very fitting end to these beloved characters that I've grown so attached to. In the beginning I really had to trust the process but with every little twist it all made sense and it was clear that it was the way the story was supposed to go. We see the strengths of these characters as they are pushed to their limits and their development has always felt so natural. Sammy shines more than ever and has always been such a well written character. I was so sad to see this saga come to an end with its constant twists and turns that live in my head rent free. Though I do understand the ramifications of a hellbent villain, I did feel that the deaths began to lose their impact towards the end. I really appreciate the thought that was put into the end for some of these characters, we didn't get a promised happily ever after but we were given hope that even if we don't get to see these characters grow beyond high school, we know that they'll be just fine...even if we are certain that they'll remain absolutely chaotic and unpredictable. Zimny has written an addictive trilogy that demanded my focus and kept me turning the pages for more. This will forever be my top rec because these books need to be read by everybody!

The conclusion to the series that I’ve long awaited and finally gotten to! This book has such a slow burn, and it builds and unravels at just the right pace. It may be intimidating at first when you think you’re starting over and Sammy doesn’t remember anything, and you see 600+ pages in the book… but don’t let that deter you!! Not one part of this book is a waste or not important. There’s foreshadow and hidden clues throughout this whole series and you either barely figure it out in time, or you’re left going AGHHHH HOW DID I NOT SEE THAT?!

I know if I do a reread now I’ll pick up on it and see the expertise in MT Zimny’s planning…

There’s so much in this story that you won’t see coming, and things that you do see coming but won’t expect how they turn out or take a turn on you in a way that’s totally shocking.

So much drama and heartbreak and intense emotions come with this finale, and many are lost in the crossfires…I don’t want to spoil anything but it’s tragic but well written all the same.

This world of superheroes and villains has been such a wild and fun ride, and I recommend this series to any fans of this genre!

Overall, I rate this one:

This whole series is amazing. I love the characters and the storyline-all of it. I do wish the world-building was a bit more informative, I still have a lot of questions. The marketing for this book was so bad. there was almost none, which was a shame. I repeatedly checked the author's website for a release date as the book was not on GoodReads until very recently. I hope this series gets more hype, though I think what would be best for it is to take it down and work on it a bit more, give a bit more detail on the superpowers and how they are passed down, how some of the events happened, and in the last book there were some typos and grammatical errors. I would correct these issues and then shop publishers to find one that would mass-market publish it instead of indie. Disney Hyperion sounds like it would be a good fit, though they are a long shot.

Overall this was a great ending to a great series that I hope gets a spinoff because I love the world that was built.

How to end a trilogy

When first reading this book, I felt so lost! I thought I completely forgotten what happened in the second book. But then i realized, oh wait, I get now. It felt like a whiplash because I felt I was missing pieces but soon enough those pieces fell place. I will admit I was didn’t like it. And I don’t mean bad writing or plotting. I mean the MC wasn’t the same because, well she wasn’t it. But once she was back, she was back!
Afterwards it straight up was brutal. So much happened to so many people. So much blood shed in this book and it was epic. Any less would have been lackluster.
The climax kicked so major butt! It really felt like everything was down to wire and the revelations were epic!
In the end, the series is solid! The series has its own identity and stands on its own two feet. I’m excited to see more from this author because I believe there’s so much talent being written I cannot wait for the author’s next book!

Good LORD. What a freaking conclusion to an already epic series. Because if there is one word to describe both The Apex Cycle and Epsilon, ”epic” is it.

I was constantly being torn between being seriously stressed for Sammy and her friends, deep breathing to calm myself from the INSANE twists and turns, or gently weeping because (no spoilers) holy freaking smokes. MT writes in a way that wraps you so completely within the story that you deeply feel the high stakes, the desperation, the pain, and the occasional joys (because let’s be real, MT puts her characters through the wringer in the best way).

I wanted this story to go on forever, but at the end of the day, you couldn’t ask for a better conclusion to such an incredible series. MT has accomplished something truly remarkable with The Apex Cycle and it is worth every moment invested. Don’t miss out.

There are some series that stay with you long after you finish that last sentence and close the book. This series, for me, is one of those.
This last book had me in awe of the author’s talent for progressing the story and making the growth of the characters feel organic.
This isn’t a series that is all rainbows and butterflies… it’s a buckle up buttercup and enjoy the emotional roller coaster ride.
I love it when authors don’t give you what you want…but gives you what you need…what the characters need.
This was an amazing series and this last book was the best of them all. I highly recommend diving into them.
It will definitely be a series I will revisit again. I also wouldn’t be mad if the author decided to write another story to check in on them again one day.

Bittersweet

The title of this review is in reference to both how I feel finding myself at the end of this series, and also what I would say is an overarching theme of this installment. To that end, I would also say 'just right' applies. So many stories have a conclusion that feels wrong somehow, whether it's too nice or too terrible. Epsilon does not have that problem. As its predecessors would lead me to expect, this book has breathless pacing, believable character arcs, and conflict resolution in the most frustratingly realistic way. I'm heartbroken to leave the world of New Delos, but whether there is ever something new on the horizon or not, I am certain I'll find myself back in these streets again.

Wow. Couldn’t put it down. Literally, could not. In the car, in waiting rooms, at my desk at work.

M.T. Zimny created a world that never felt forced, and the character development felt intentional and not too played out. I’ve never read a series that pulled me in so quickly and kept me enraptured until the very end.

I am recommending this series to everyone I know with eyes. This series NEEDS to be read. The world is insanely magical, while also set in much needed grounding reality. The characters are relatable, each with wants, fears, and needs. I felt like they were my friends and I was rooting for them, yes even Andersen.

10/5 stars, I loved every single infuriating moment of it.

In a accidentally use of his powers, Sammy's half brother has triggered a full delete of her memories. Worse, everyone keeps figuring it out, then he makes everyone forget. Again.
As Sammy struggles to regain her memory, the villain Apex and Epsilon types have taken over the floating city, naming it a country for them and plotting to take over the world.
Sammy pretends to change sides, intending to stop them, but things get complicated.
Good wrap up to the series. The good guys mostly win, but there are realistic losses and consequences.

This series took my heart and my mind on a roller coaster of thoughts and emotions while listening to the storyline continue to unfold towards a resolution. The character development continued to grow and expand through their positive and negative experiences. At one point in the story, you think everything is resolving, only to have the storyline take a turn you didn’t expect! The events at the end of the storyline brought resolution, and the epilogue put a bow on top of the series! (I love a good epilogue!!)

Good but

I think this book was the weakest of this trilogy. It was a lot of wash, rinse, and repeat of battles. Sammy let's do many things slip to expose she is faking it yet never gets caught. The story seems long and drawn out. Then the ending was lackluster. I did, however, like the few twists that came up and still enjoyed the characters. Overall, it is a series I would recommend.

First of all, how dare you make me like Andersen?

This was the perfect ending to a fantastic series. The plot twists destroyed me and i spent the entire epilogue low key sobbing.

I deeply appreciate a YA series that doesn't feature sex scenes. Is there romance? A little, but nothing above a PG rating.

As much as I'd like to read their crazy college adventures, I'm also excited to see what other projects the other comes up with.

The ending made me so happy and sad all at once.

The story is wrapped up well in this final installment. The narration was as good as ever, injecting life and heart into every scene. I think the only reason I deducted a star is because sometimes the tensions waned which was hard in a finale-and Beta is my all time favorite book of the series.

Either way Zimny wrote a wonderful series with fun character you can route for with an ending leaving you satisfied. I’m excited for her next works!

The first two books made me lose sleep because I didn't want to stop reading, and this one was no different.

Samantha, the FMC, is NOT a superhero, like most of her friends. That much she knows. The problem is, aside from that fact, she can't remember ANYTHING. While she attempts to recover her memories, the enemy keeps sliding into her mind, making it impossible for her friends and allies to fully trust her. Which in turn causes her to question if they are TRULY her friends, or only pretending to be.

The twists and turns of this book rival the WILDEST theme park ride. And yes, I cried, more than once. MT Zimny is definitely an auto-buy author for me after this series!

This story captivated me in ways I can't even describe! Sleeper hit in the making. Sammy and the team won my heart, and the plot twists were very unique and unexpected for this avid reader of over 1k tomes. The narrative and it's message would be excellent for a Netflix series or movie.

Highly recommend this trilogy to young adults, pre-teens, superhero fans, and for those looking for a slow burn kinda love that feels sweetly satisfying.

Enjoy!

What an amazing way to end this incredible series! All of the characters had such great plot lines, and the twists that I didn’t see coming sparked the story even further. It’s always bitter sweet to say goodbye to a beloved series, but I am looking forward to the audiobook coming soon! A masterpiece from start to finish, Epsilon is the perfect finish to an unforgettable trilogy!

😭😭😭 incredible book, made me feel so many things that now it's over I want to cry even MORE. This trilogy is worth taking a chance on,it's about more than superheroes, though obviously that's a large part of it - it's about found family, loyalty, love, finding yourself, and overcoming the odds. And so much more, but excuse me... need to go cry some more🥺 💖🥹

An incredible end to an amazing series.

Zimny does such a great job on A) giving us different views/versions of the characters we've grown to love in such an interesting way B) Making us scream at the book with the twists!

The stakes are high, and the tension is real in this stunning conclusion to the Apex Cycle.

Pick up the Trilogy, you will NOT regret it!

Well I did a lot of screaming and almost crying and generally reconsidering all my life choices while reading this book.

I have so much to say that I don't even know where to start.

But I can try

SPOILERS AHEAD!

This one was a lot more fast paced than the first one and I liked that
The only problem with that is that I had to put it down to sleep
I would have finished the whole trilogy in a single day- THAT'S how into it I got and how highly I would recommend it- if I'd stayed up to read instead of sleeping.
Even with that I still finished in less than 26 hours

I sat down on the (thankfully vacant) sidewalk to read the last two chapters
A LOT of stuff happened in those chapters

And then the epilogue...

I almost cried real tears of actual emotion when it ended because I'm so invested in the plot and the characters now

This trilogy holds a special place in my heart... Thank you for creating this completely undervalued treasure.

EDIT:
GUYS!!!
THE ENTIRE TRILOGY IS ON THE TRENDING PAGE OF THE TEEN LIST IN MY LIBRARY DISTRICT!!!
ONCE UPON A TIME THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE IN THE WORLD WHO HAD READ THIS BOOK
And now it's trending.
I'm clearly doing SOMETHING right

Again quite excellent. The ending was a little abrupt for me... okay, it wasn't technically abrupt, but I had developed a certain fondness for a few characters whose fate remained unclear and I didn't like that. Grumble. Still whole-heartedly recommended.
