This was so good omg!

I am kinda surprised by how much I enjoyed it but this one just may just be one of my fav ongoing series atm!

It starts with Johnny waking up in Hayden falls and having a family but something is wrong and the mystery depends and as he fights the one who may have manipulated the reality around him, its one heck of a fight and then there are other stories like him fighting demons or even haunted trucks and that one was so cool and I love the thing with the rider coming out suddenly and Johnny not knowing something is preventing him from becoming that and it leads to great mysteries and then there is a hell-race and I love the cameos there particularly Wolverine which was so awesome and a team up of the midnight sons!

And the plot being set up with Blackheart, Council of the night magicians and whatever Danny is going through in the vengeance one shot (which was so good omg) and the Circus of Crime which seems like will result in a big challenge ahead and I freaking love it! Plus the hints of things set in the previous run and continuing that so that should be good too!

Plus the art was so good, so definitely looking forward to future volumes! And this one is a must read for sure!

An enjoyable Ghost Rider book. A more horror feel to this book, though as it is a Spirit of Vengeance book, this definitely fits. I would have given this book 3.5 stars because I don't like books that leave more questions than answers. Though the book does deserve a round up instead of down.

One other thing I was not crazy. There were fewer bits of Ghost Rider, I do understand why this was done in the story as we are seeing things from Johnny Blaze's point of view.

Johnny Blaze does not seem to fit in. He has everything he ever wanted. Yet since the crash that messed up his head, something seemed off. No matter how many times his therapist says, "monsters are not real," his senses tell him something different. Now, a stranger and the FBI are after him or what is inside him.

As I said, this book gives more questions than answers. However, this does hopefully mean there are more answers to come in the next books. The book finishes with a varient cover gallery with awesome artwork.

Not bad! Marvel & DC are both spinning their wheels right now. Everything happening in the Marvel comic book universe just doesn't feel as connected as in the past. It has been hard for me to get excited about the big two's comics lately. But this does not mean there are no hidden jewels in the trash. As long as you have a fairly decent writer & artist you can find a good book to get into in the current comic book market. Benjamin Percy is a good writer but I feel like he has lost a bit of steam lately. His Wolverine and X-force run started off great but since Hickman left the X-men titles it just feels like his books are not as exciting as they use to be. I still feel his DC rebirth run on Green Arrow was his best superhero work. This Ghost Rider series has potential. I admit I am not caught up with the Ghost Rider continuity. I know there are a lot of Ghost riders running around but Johnny Blaze has always been the fan favorite. Percy's approach to the Ghost Rider mythos is interesting. I really like the psychological horror element that Percy is taking with the story. There really isn't a lot of focus on the secondary characters here as this book works as more of a character focus on Johnny Blaze. The artwork in the book was not bad but it wasn't really spectacular either. This book really needs an artistic kick. They need someone like Kubert, Bennett, or even Viktor Bogdanovic. Bogdanovic would have been perfect. His Capullo-like visuals would make this a more top-notch series. But if you are looking for an action-pack horror romp this book will not disappoint. I hope Percy will be able to keep up the momentum on this series. The Black Heart reveal was dope. I am looking forward to picking up volume 2.

A pretty damn good body horror volume. The first 3 issue in particular are very good. Issue 4 solid too. Issue 5 a bit to weird, having bunch of superheroes join Ghost Rider in a race seemed, corny, to be honest. Saying that, it's still an enjoyable read, plenty of nasty moments, and a nice reboot in a way to the Ghost Rider Name.

Really liked a couple of Percy’s novels, others I found meh. Was just enough a fan to read some of his X-force and Wolverine which again I would rate ok, decent but not exceptional. I loved his work on this Ghost Rider collection as it seems like he found his true niche. Really explores the characters and keeps plot moving. Art is freaking gorgeous will definitely continue this series.

I sat on this review for several days and I still don't know how to feel. On the one hand, it's absurdly edge-lord. On the other hand, Ghost Rider has ALWAYS been edge-lord and some of my favorite issues are knee deep in the excess and extremity of 90s comics.

HOWEVER.

Something about this just feels lazy. Like Marvel dropped a ton of Immortal Hulk books and said "do this but Ghost Rider." The female agent is ripped right out of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo as well, which doesn't make this run feel any less derivative.

I'm also growing tired of the "we're not going to tell you anything about what's going on" storytelling. It's tiresome. I like a good mystery, but after three or four issues into a run I'd like my commitment to the story rewarded in some way.

I dunno. I hate to be a bummer in anything Ghost Rider but Marvel hasn't exactly been wowing me as of late with anything they've done with the characters (this includes Danny and Robbie.)

Someone less picky will probably like this better than me. It's definitely fun grimdark schlock, but there's nothing here that I won't find in my short boxes of back issues.

I'm conflicted on this one.

What I liked: It felt like a Hulk comic (homeless wandering hero that turns into a monster against his will and trashes everything in sight) and I really like the Hulk so that was fun. This is also one of the grossest and most horror-driven Marvel comcis I think that I have read, and I really liked that.

What I was neutral on: This mostly feels like a collection of one-shots. There is a connecting story about the FBI trying to find Ghost Rider but, for the most part, each issue is Ghost Rider riding into town and quickly killing a monster before taking off again. Also, you never really feel like Ghost Rider is in any danger. He is so powerful that he almost instantly wins every fight he gets into.

What I didn't like as much: Issue 1 was a bit confusing and issue 5 felt like Hanna-Barbera's Wacky Races and I couldn't take it seriously (it would have been a good idea for a comic with a slightly less serious and gruesome tone than this one).

This was a so-so start but it was fun enough that it's worth sticking with for now.

A hot start.

Johnny Blaze was in an accident and is a little nervous about being back on a bike. Or at least that’s what someone wants him to think. The Ghost Rider is trying to find out who has trapped him, but the answer might be a hard one to handle. I really liked this series. I think it’s great for someone who hasn’t read Ghost Rider before. The art was well done and really creepy. I thought they did a good job with the location switching each issue. There was a few times I was reminded of Ray Bradbury and I wasnt expecting that. But if you want something fun and kind of scary, this series is great.

Another in the long line of Ghost Rider comics which don't quite live up to how badass he looked when I first glimpsed him in the old Marvel Top Trumps. It's clearly trying to go more for outright horror – Johnny's flesh shown melting off when he goes into flaming skull mode, then not remembering once he wakes what the Spirit of Vengeance has done while using his body. And let's not even mention the business with the eyeball, effective and grisly though it is. More specifically, there's a horror-of-the-week format which recalls the American Gothic arc of Swamp Thing, as Johnny travels through America's small towns, the sort of places that feel like they're dropping off the map and here may well be, running into something ghastly each issue. That's crossed with The X-Files, given there are two FBI agents on his trail, one of them by-the-book and the other, frankly, trying a bit too hard: Agent Talia Warroad is ex-SHIELD, doesn't play by the rules, and None More Goth to the extent her ride is a muscle car hearse with flames up the sides (painted flames, that is; Johnny's genuinely blazing bike has her beat, which may explain her determination to catch him). The problem is that, particularly with the brevity of modern Marvel issues, not to mention US comics creators not having that 2000AD training in compact storytelling, none of the spooky scenarios quite have space to get under the skin. In the first, Johnny is settled in a small town which seems fairly close to the American dream, until a stranger comes to town; classic Stephen King territory, but rushed through to the extent that it feels more like a 'previously on' than the story itself. Next up, a sinister motel where there's next to no time for inklings of the untoward, just straight into the dark secret at its heart. And so on. Each of them is a story which might have worked at two issues, compressed into one, like the rush of a comic's last stretch before cancellation right from the debut. I suspect Marvel's trigger-happy approach to marginal series is at least as much to blame for this as the headline names on the book, but either way it makes for an unsatisfying read. Although the last issue does give us the chance to see everyone from Doom to Man-Thing as bikers, plus I think the first official panel to feature Moon Knight in the same place as Dracula. Bitch better have his money.

Happy halloween!!! This was fucking gross lmao.

Body-horror road trip through hell, cannot call this anything else. It starts out really good and I thought this would be a winner but it was really only the first issue that slapped. The rest was just full of weirdly paced pit stops, with the spirit of vengeance making his way around various demon / haunted / monster events before moving on again.

First he deals with a suspicious town, then killer motel, killer highway truck, killer circus, killer hell race ft other Marvel characters and those are all the issues. (Seeing my boy Moon Knight on his lil moon motorcycle was the highlight of the entire volume for me not gonna lie.)

Then there was focus on some random ass side characters and the weird goth girl was kinda interesting but also not? Then there was something about wizards?? Or something??? Seriously have no idea who or what any of those people were.

I don't know what I expected or what I even wanted when I picked up goddamn Ghost Rider but it wasn't this.

The body-horror was INSANE. Words cannot express how ew ew ew I found the entire thing. I'm itchy just thinking about it, goddamn I hate body-horror.

Along with that it was just all around grotesque and gory. I mean if that is what you want / are looking for??? This volume is for you my dudes.

Piles of blood, guts, and mutilated bodies don't get me gagging like the literal eyeball, mouth, and sometimes demon tentacles coming out of a guy's head scar but it all felt so overly edgy. (But also ew why does spirit of vengeance equal this nasty shit!!)

None of that is exciting to me, I was much more interested in the psychological part of ghost rider fighting Johnny Blaze and how he decides his vengeance but oh well just draw another picture of a giant monster demon ripping someone in half and then eating them or turning a mass of human bodies into another giant monster.

I wanted to give this more stars just because the first issue was so good but also no. It was all gore and no substance.

Also I hate the art, it is super ugly.

More like a 3.5 Star Rating, if we're being honest. But this is definitely above average, and keeps to the more horror themed elements of this character, as it should. I'm hoping as the series progresses that Ghost Rider/Johnny Blaze will operate outside the regular Marvel Universe and not have to interact with the superheroes. The addition of Wolverine in the latter part of the story was well-tempered and managed to work. I just hope Percy keeps that to a minimum.
While there are continuing story threads that weave throughout each issues, there's also a separate threat/conflict each issues that usually gets resolved before the end. That's one of the things I like about this title, as opposed to the storylines that go on and on. Percy continues to weave those threads every issue but manages to keep them out of the way of the single issue story.
Johnny Blaze realizes that his Ghost Rider manifestation has been suppressed while living in a small town with a faux family. He breaks free of that bond and strikes out on his own. However, he's hampered by a behind-the-ear scar from his last motorcycle accident, a scar that harbors an inner demon that is constantly in conflict with him.
Add a curious new character, Talia Warroad, working for the FBI's Paranormal Unit investigating Johnny and always seeming to be one step behind, plus a mysterious night magician and a secretive council and you have the makings of a suspenseful mystery/thriller. Add cannabalistic monsters in caves, berserker trucks, a motorcycle race to hell, the re-introduction of Blackheart and there's plenty to like about this title.

Sabe aquelas histórias que no fim tudo que o personagem achava que era real, na verdade era um sonho? E aquelas que no final da história a pessoa descobre que o inimigo era um robô o tempo todo? Então, esse encadernado do Motoqueiro Fantasma é assim, só que em vez de sonho e robô é inferno e demonho. Começa com aquele clichê, o personagem vive num mundinho perfeito de comercial de margarina, mas na verdade ele está no inferno. Ok, passa isso e temos histórias pontuais de Johnny Blaze enfrentando demônios diversos em cenários de rodovias e seus entornos. Ao mesmo tempo um agente do FBI e uma agente gótica fora do comum perseguem as aparições do Motoqueiro Fantasma. temos textos legais nos recordatórios, mas a forma como as tramas são encadeadas são tão clichezosas... E aí, o encadernado acaba nesse clichê de que um personagem era um demônio o tempo todo. Complicado... Não é um encadernado de todo ruim, tem uns conceitos interessantes. Outra coisa boba no encadernado é uma corrida de moto na estrada que participa o Loki, Doutor Destino e o Caveira Vermelha ao mesmo tempo que Wolverine, Cavaleiro da Lua e Viúva Negra. É dose, parece que querem vender herói com motinho pra criança... Complicado 2.

Being a long term fan of Ghost Rider, I knew the beginning of this Volume was either a reboot or a dream sequence. We find Johnny Blaze married with two kids, living a quiet and peaceful life. A wound on his head from a recent motorcycle accident is the only sign of anything wrong, except for the nightmares...
There's been a drastic increase in supernatural activity, and the FBI needs to investigate it. They send out ex-SHIELD Agent Warroad, a magic practicing goth-looking woman, and Agent Whilmer, a very straight-laced nerdy white guy. They'll be surprised at all the things they find...
Johnny knows he's living a lie, and Ghost Rider has started showing himself at night again. There is also the voice in his head that keeps talking about the Shadow Country... What is it? Where is it? Is that voice actually an entity inside him?
At the end of the Volume, we see that Blackheart has made most of this come to fruition. I can't wait to see the inevitable battle to come.

Ghost Rider rides again in the Marvel Universe, and I'm happy to see how it goes. Hope we get a very long title run this time.

I haven't been much of a Ghost Rider fan, but saw that there would be a crossover with Wolverine and the X-verse later on this series, so I decided to dive in and see what this ghastly apparition's deal was. Verdict: pretty much feels like Benjamin Percy's Wolverine series, crossed over with Al Ewing's Hulk series.

We're introduced to Johnny Blaze, who is living a happy life with his wife and kids - except for the hard drinking he has to do to be able to sleep at night. Obviously, Blaze is actually the Ghost Rider and he's being controlled by some demon (or something). When Blaze breaks out of this mental prison, he decides to cross the country solving minor monster mysteries until... well, until something else happens, I guess.

There's not a ton of forward momentum in this volume, which largely seems to assume I know who Johnny Blaze is and why it's a big deal that he's back, baby. The wacky "RACE TO HELL" issue was stupid, but everything else was engaging, if not energizing. I suppose the FBI had a minor throughline, as well as a mysterious council of graveyard dwellers, so we'll see if those pieces go somewhere in future volumes.

This was pretty fun overall! The first and last issues were my favorite. The first issue had this great psychological horror aspect to it and it's definitely the best of the bunch for me. The side characters tracking down Johnny are pretty boring and haven't proved they're worth the time to span out over a long run. However THAT cliffhanger at the end of Issue 5 got me really excited. The 50th Anniversary Special wasn't that good. It was ok. It just felt way too jumbled and it didn't show us any meaningful parts of the characters. I like the "Vengeance Is Forever" theme going on but it could have been done better. Maybe it could have been an issue where Johnny, Danny and Robbie team up. And at the end they all stand together, and the final panel has the "Vengeance Is Forever" line and it shows a large collection of different Spirits of Vengeance. And this was just an idea I got on the top of my head. The best part about the special is probably the incredible cover. Overall this was pretty good. I'm really excited to see where Volume 2 goes with a certain someone.

That last issue was a goofball and a half. If you think Ghost Rider racing Man-Thing and Dr. Doom among others on motorcycles is cool then you probably had those '80s Secret Wars toys where most people came with a motorcycle bearing their colors. I had the Spider-man one from a yard sale, but Cap always rode it, and maybe I am just jealous of your toys, but I thought this book's ending was stupid.

The whole rest of the book reads like a spec script for Supernatural season 9 or 10 where the boys have to fight some Stephen King short stories, which sounds like it would have been a good episode, but it was turned in too late and had to be adapted to this Ghost Rider story.

At least some of the creepy visuals were good.

This was fine. I’m not a ghost rider Super Fan, nor am I that into horror, so I think a lot of what is cool about this one I was ambivalent towards. It wasn’t bad, though. Hell attempts to. Brainwash Johnny, failing that his, what? partnership? with the Ghost Rider is fractured, and he embarks on careening from one horrific adventure to the next, invariably ending with the rider taking him over and him waking up someplace new.

The ending was… weird though, and knocked it down a peg. There’s a competition where the prize is an audience with the devil, and a random assortment of heroes are there to race with/against Johnny. A little too gonzo for me.

5 issues in and this is JUST AS INSANE as every other Ghost Rider series...

Johnny Blaze seems to have the perfect life. He's got a wife and kids now. There was a bad accident at some point, and Mr. Blaze was injured (that scar is U.G.L.Y.). Now, he's self medicating to keep the nightmares at bay. That can't end well.

Ever.

..and as with every other series. Things aren't exactly as they appear. Somebody put Ghost Rider on the shelf. The world has gone to s*#T in the meantime.

Bonus: That scar weeps an AWFUL lot.

Read individual issues. This starts off well, an illusory ideal life turns out to be a hellish deception and Johnny is back to demons and blackouts. The last issue is pretty silly, though: a bike race involving all sorts of Marvel heroes and villains, including the Man-Thing and Doctor Doom, fer Pete's sake! But overall, not bad. The special is good, Johnny travelling in his mind through time to the various manifestations of the Ghost Rider while getting heavily inked.

Прочитав перші 6 номерів нової серії про Примарного Вершника.

Зав'язка серії полягає в тому що Джонні втікає з ілюзії ідеального життя і намагається дізнатися як він туди потрапив та, що з ним не так. За ці 6 номерів ми побачимо як Блейз буде боротися з демонічною вантажівкою, візьме участь у смертельних перегонах та зіштовхнеться з цирком мерців. І от коли Персі пише про це то за серією досить цікаво спостерігати однак не все так добре, оскільки тут є лінії з агентом ФБР, відьмою та спілкою магів які, як на мене, вийшли нудними і які мені хотілося пропусти.

Однак найкращим у цій серії є малюнок Корі Сміта який ідеально задає тон коміксу. Особливо виділю моменти з боді горрором, наприклад трансформація Джонні у Вершника та монстра який зроблений з жертв цирку. Шостий номер малював Брент Піплес і він впорався досить добре.

Загалом початок цього тому вийшов хорошим, з, майже, непоганими історіями, та малюнком який є головним плюсом серії.

I like this. I think Percy does well writing for some fringe characters. At DC he was at his best with Green Arrow and here with Ghost Rider. Alot of cool imagery. The last issue was a bit busy and somewhat of a come down but a strong book.

Johnny Blaze isn't the Ghost Rider any more. Instead, he's moved to the suburbs for a normal life, with his...long-dead girlfriend. Oh, this is going to end well, isn't it?

Most of this volume is one-and-done stories with a little through line about the agents chasing Johnny across the country, which isn't a bad way to reintroduce the character after the heavy previous volume with the whole King Of Hell stuff. It reminds me a little of how Immortal Hulk started off, with Banner waking up in places and having to deal with the aftermath of whatever Hulk had been up to, but with a bit more fire and brimstone thrown in. There's some fun stories here though, including a Fury Road-esque motorcycle race and a possessed Arctic that had me laughing.

Cory Smith's the regular artist here, though he gets a little help from Brent Peeples on a couple of issues. Smith's style seems to have changed yet again, though I feel like that's from necessity so that he can keep a schedule rather than anything else. His visuals are still clear and clean, but they're a little less detailed than they used to be, which is a shame. Phillip Tan's covers are gorgeous as well.

Ghost Rider blazes back into yet another new ongoing - hopefully this one can stick around a little longer than the last. The writer and artist team seem to know what they're doing, I just hope they get time to do it.

I guess it's harder to write a good Ghost Rider comic than I thought. I mean, flaming head on a motorcycle - it should write itself. This focuses too much on building other things, not Johnny Blaze and a few of the body horror moments just to seem like apeing Immortal Hulk.

I can’t pretend to be the most informed Marvel reader, given I’ve read hardly any such titles in my life, but I picked this up to maybe change that. And, all said, it was a fun read! But I do need to add the obligatory “not without its flaws” clause, here, because while I enjoyed the book there were some things that put me off.

Issue #1 starts off very promising, full of Johnny Blaze’s flaws and trauma that paints a vivid picture of life after an accident: and certainly life after Ghost Rider. Hellish imagery abounds, with hellfire, monstrous limbs, freakish ghouls and gore. The horror is fun and the character is engaging enough to keep you reading on into issues #3, #4, and #5, and each installment has their own burning scenes of vengeance to make it worthwhile. After that first issue though, the book is marred with the typical modern-comic pitfalls of inconsistent art quality and story quality dropoff that makes the sequence of events feel unimportant.

Regarding the art: seriously, some of this comic’s pages of blazing fire and vehicular action is top notch; so much so that I can hear the crackle of the flames, feel the heat, smell the smoke and charred rubber: Ghost Rider himself looks badass in nearly ever panel he’s in, and when he goes in for the kill on nasty, bloody demons, it’s so badass I can’t help but smile at all the edge. It's okay to be dumb and edgy sometimes! Ghost Rider is perfect for that. But then there are the usual issues of very oddly-proportioned characters and unconvincing depth of view (especially in issues #4 and #5) that I find myself recalling why I usually like manga more.

Regarding the story beats: issue by issue there’s a solid setup for conflict and good action, but the way each chapter ends leaves a lot to be desired. Issue #3, for example, had some of the coolest ideas, but was literally one page away from finishing them the proper way. Issue #5 felt like total schlock to me, and is another reason I find myself NOT gravitating toward American comics: I bought a Ghost Rider book, so why are Wolverine, Morbius, Blade, and Doctor Doom driving motorcycles in some random race? Does this have lore implications outside of what’s mentioned in this issue? Probably, that’s how Marvel works. Stupid.

And I can’t say I liked the sideplot of that goth-girl character looking for Blaze, it felt tedious to me. Stuff like that just takes up pages in a book that would be better being only about GHOST RIDER.

But it was worth the read, all said, because the action is fun even with its flaws. Will I read anymore? Probably not.
