Such a well written story completely spoiled by splitting it into three separate books that contained no satisfyingly complete story and a terrible ending that answered no questions . We at least deserved a final explanatory chapter. I won’t be bothering to read any of this author’s work again.
With this being a three book series set, I did expect three different crimes with the same main characters. I did not expect it to be three sections of the same story. If I want to know who the killer(s) are, I need to go to the 4th book in the series. But will I know who the killer is or have to go on to another book?
Books 1-3 are not really three separate books, but rather more like three segments of a longer book. So prepare yourself for a lot of reading if you want the complete story.
It was a freebie, so I thought I would start with book 1 to see how I liked it. But this book is more of a single segment of a longer book. Then I thought, perhaps it is part of a trilogy, so onto book 2, which then lead me into book 3. But books 1-3 really read like segments of a much longer story. I see there are four book sets to date. So I would not suggest you start this unless you are ready for a really long story reading.
I see our protagonists harbor a lot of personal history and character flaws. Plenty of room for fleshing out story arcs. I am not a fan of some of the supervisors' and staff"s interactions. That is the biggest turn off for me and what will make me stop reading this series. I think they are dated and do not reflect current workplace standards. A bit too "Hollywood". But I could be mistaken as my personal experience and practices may not be representative of the real world. I would never tolerate such low ethics, especially in a Police Department.
As far as my impression of this first set of books 1-3. It reminds me of a TV season. If I assume each book set is composed of 3 "books" then that would translate into a 12 episode TV series. That sounds about right. But for me, it also reads like a TV series. A lot of little dramas and interacting personalities. Plenty of room for character twists and turns. This is not my style of story telling. I would rather have a shorter more condensed storyline. More of a movie versus TV series. Maybe I have a short attention span.
The couple of sexual encounters didn’t add to the plot so not necessary. Overall enjoyed the author’s style but very frustrating that there was no conclusion to many hours of reading.
I know this was a freebie but come onnnnnn. How many more 3 Book Box Sets will it take to FINALLY to find out that it was Madison's Brother, Aiden??? It is absolutely absurd to read "3 Books" and not have the solution.
The plot of this set of books (3 consecutive ones in this volume) drags on and there is still no end to the story, which goes into a 4th volume (and maybe more?). The writing seems to have been written by a 10th grader, so amateurish is the style. In general, I cannot recommend this series. It was so bad in my opinion that I can't bring myself to continue to the next book even though it is unclear at the end of the 3rd book "who dunnit."
This is an interesting premise and I liked the two main characters. But they need a sharper plot and some very keen editing to make this box set work. These first three books could easily be one book and it would be far better. It's also disappointing that we never get to find out the killer, but I wasn't interested enough to buy more. Not a success for me, though others may like it.
Wimpy main characters who don’t speak up or set boundaries. One story broken up into separate books doesn’t intrigue, merely annoys. I won’t bother reading any future books since the presentation feels more like a cheap gimmick to get the reader to spend money and the writing isn’t clever enough to get away with that.
Wow, what a trip this was. Reading about this serial killer, the tragedy of a man imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit. The quest for justice among lies, deceit, ambition, and power in the wrong hands. Now, I just have to buy the next books, don't I? First time, I was so engaged with a story. Well done! And the mystery continues.
Good characters .Enjoyed reading this book but, it's a bit slow and not a lot happens. Also bit of a cheat that there is 6 books so probably won't know until the sixth whodunit. Don't know if I can be bothered to read 4&5 might go straight to 6 and hope its revealed.
3 books in, and it didn't END??? UGH. I really hate when authors do this. I don't (usually) mind sequels... but make your books stand alone. I was ok with how the 2nd book ended....until now. I could scream.
Interesting and believable story line. Well rounded characters that interact well together. Cliff hanger of an ending that leaves the reader needing more.
Hugely disappointed that I have to buy the next set of books to find out what happens. It is a very thrilling story and well written, so will endeavour to find the rest of the books
