One of the finest books available on jazz guitar chords. Joe covers all the bases with two sections on chord forms and chord passages. Chords are divided into six Major, Seventh, Augmented, Minor, Diminished, and Minor Seventh Flat Fifth, each showing substitutions and inversions that Joe would play when confronted with "basic" chord symbols. The chord passage section is divided into nine categories, including such topics as Major Sounds, Diminished Sounds, Augmented Sounds, Standard Patter Chord Substitutions, and other chord progression - related topics.

Joe Pass was an American jazz guitarist. Pass is well known for his work stemming from numerous collaborations with pianist Oscar Peterson and vocalist Ella Fitzgerald, and is often esteemed as one of the most notable jazz guitarists of the 20th century.

I go through this book once or twice a week to practice basic chords on the guitar. Joe Pass was one of the most important guitarists of the 20th century.
I highly recommend "Joe Pass Guitar Chords" to every guitarist because: #1 it will help you get your chord chops together, #2 it covers the basic chords you need to know, & #3 it'll get away from playing just "cowboy" chords all the time.

Joe Pass was one of the greatest guitarists who ever lived! So when he talks, one should listen.

This short book displays many of the chord forms that Pass would use in his improvised sections of his work. He had developed as system of “grips” that allowed him to improvise chordal progressions on the spot. Many of the chords are useful, for this type of playing, and his fans will welcome the opportunity to learn them. However, for more contemporary music and/or fusion, these chords aren’t as useful. You can take what works for you and use it in your playing without the need to memorize his whole system… unless of course, you want to!

It’s not a bad book, but he wrote other books that contained better material than this.
