The author will be donating all US royalties due to him to support music education for children worldwide, through the New Hampshire Charitable foundation.
Travel through the trees and across the seas with Maestro Mouse and his musical friends! Young readers will meet a big blue whale and speedy cheetahs, tiny beetles and graceful swans. Each has a special secret to share.
Along the way, you might spot the surprises Maestro Mouse has left for you- a hiding buzzy bee, jumbled letters that spell out clues, and even a coded message to solve!
Children and adults can enjoy this timeless picture book as a traditional read-along, or can choose to listen to original musical compositions as they read--one for each animal--with a free interactive smartphone app, which uses augmented reality to play the appropriate song for each page when a phone's camera is held over it.
Dan Brown is the author of numerous #1 bestselling novels, including The Da Vinci Code, which has become one of the best selling novels of all time as well as the subject of intellectual debate among readers and scholars. Brown’s novels are published in 56 languages around the world with over 200 million copies in print.
In 2005, Brown was named one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World by TIME Magazine, whose editors credited him with “keeping the publishing industry afloat; renewed interest in Leonardo da Vinci and early Christian history; spiking tourism to Paris and Rome; a growing membership in secret societies; the ire of Cardinals in Rome; eight books denying the claims of the novel and seven guides to read along with it; a flood of historical thrillers; and a major motion picture franchise.”
The son of a mathematics teacher and a church organist, Brown was raised on a prep school campus where he developed a fascination with the paradoxical interplay between science and religion. These themes eventually formed the backdrop for his books. He is a graduate of Amherst College and Phillips Exeter Academy, where he later returned to teach English before focusing his attention full time to writing. He lives in New England with his yellow lab, Winston.
Brown’s latest novel, Origin, explores two of the fundamental questions of humankind: Where do we come from? Where are we going?
- The Ray - Hammerhead and moral eel Loudly tell you how they feel. But the fish just stare and sigh When the ray goes gliding by. Strong and graceful, silent too, Could the ray be just like you? SOMETIMES A LOT OF NOISE IS NOT THE BEST WAY TO GET ATTENTION. BEING QUIET AND GRACEFUL CAN WORK EVEN BETTER.

- Impatient Ponies - Love to gallop, never trot, Hate to stay in just one spot. Running circles, life’s a race, Got to set a faster pace! Looking forward, never down, Missing clovers on the ground. As tomorrow comes your way, Don’t forget to live today! TOMORROW WILL BE SOON ENOUGHT. SLOW DOWN AND ENJOY TODAY.
-—- 🎶
- Swan in the Mist - In the mist I see a swan By herself; her friends are gone. She must be sad there all alone, Paddling softly on her own. But then I see she’s got a smile. She wants to be alone awhile. Time to think and time to rest, She likes this special time the best. TIME WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS IS FUN. TIME ALONE CAN BE SPECIAL TOO.
Annual Goodreads Choice Awards reading project: Read all the Picture Book nominees! (15 of 20)
More an activity book than a picture book for me. Each page features a nonsensical rhyme about an animal and a generic moral that were all very boring to read. More interesting was finding the letters hidden on each page and figuring out the musical instrument they spelled out, but by the end of the book -- which felt like a half hour or more later -- I grew bored of that also and just wanted to be done, especially when one last cryptogram was offered up on the last page in the author's note. No more!
(My wife did figure out the message after I walked away. If you want to know, it says:
VAOOOV!!
Each year my family reads all the Goodreads-award-nominated picture books. Wild Symphony, written by Dan Brown (yes, that Dan Brown of the DaVinci Code) and illustrated by Susan Batori, is book #17 (of 20) of 2020. It’s kind of reminiscent for me of Disney style and purpose, the making of all that music for Silly Symphonies and so many great animated films. You can download music here with the book, composed by the author. Because Brown is best known for code-cracking, he includes a code throughout this book.
Hank (14): 3 stars. I like the code that he includes, which my two neighbors (five and eight) discovered when I was reading it to them.
Harry (15): 2.5 stars. I also like the letter code, though I admit I did not figure it out. I like the front pages with all the instruments depicted and named.
Tara: 3 stars. Even though I dislike rhyming books, I thought this was pretty good. But don’t put the stupid morals at the end!
Dave: 2 stars. Not wild, as promised, with flat rhymes and cornball characters. The story had no sense of originality to it. Will only be purchased to read by older adults, grandparents, who know and already have made Mr. Brown rich by buying all his DaVinci books, because this would not be a choice of most little kids, I think.
I am truly speechless. Dan Brown is my favorite author. This book is amazing!!
Kids will enjoy searching for letters to figure out the instruments being used in the music. This book comes with an app with music composed by Dan Brown. You can listen to the songs and then read along. I spent an hour listening to the music, searching for the bee in the illustrations and of course finding the words and trying to figure out what they spell. Kids will be super busy and will enjoy everything this book has to offer. The illustrations are so adorable and colorful. This book brings music, animals, instruments, and word searches all-in-one. I always thought highly of Dan Brown, he definitely impressed me with his talents. Bravo for a book so unique that it will be the talk of all the kids.
What a fun way to interest young ones (and their caregivers) in the orchestra. Listen to the soundtrack as you read the poems and inspirational thoughts (Dan Brown calls them secrets of life.) Even when life seems messy, there's beauty to be found everywhere. For slightly older readers and listeners, there are puzzles and codes to find and solve.
------------------------------------------------------------------ For the first time, Dan Brown, the New York Times best-selling writer, is presenting a graphic work in this unique, entertaining, puzzle and adventure book.
In the new book by Dan Brown, he takes us to a new and different world that we are not used to before the writer. You travel through the forests and cross the seas with the Mouse Maestro and his musician companions! You meet the rest of his animal friends in the woods. Each one has a secret to share. Along the way, you come across surprises left by the mouse maestro - a bumblebee in hiding, scattered letters that reveal some mysteries, you might even find a coded message to solve! An enjoyable journey that takes us back to the world of childhood with reading, a simple and beautiful book, suitable for all ages.
Labai nuostabios iliustracijos. O negana to, dar ir pora užkoduotų mįslių randam. Dan Brown gi kitaip negalėtų palikti :) Vaikų nesužavėjo, bet man patiko!
Me encantó.
Uživajte dok čitate i u muzici koju je komponovao Dan Brown, meni omiljeni pisac kojeg sam sad vidjela i u nekom novom svjetlu i u novoj ulozi.
So many wonderful layers to this book! The pictures are beautiful and fun and engaging with so many fun animals (big animal lovers in this house)! And then there's a hidden bee to find on each page which is great for younger readers. My three year old son is just starting to learn his letters. On each page there are hidden letters which spell an instrument name. He loves finding the letters and naming the ones he knows, but this would also be great for elementary age kids to actually figure out the instruments names. Each page has a fun poem and a little life lesson to go with it.
And lastly there's the music, which is so so fun! My son (3) and daughter (11 months) both LOVE the music and get very into it. I haven't had a ton of luck getting my son interested in classical music, so to have him interested in orchestral music and requesting to listen to it almost every day is so great. You're supposed to download an app to get the music, but my phone can't hold even one more app so we've needed to find the music on YouTube. We have to deal with commercials, which is a bit annoying but the music is worth it. Actually I lied about the music being the last thing. There is also a small puzzle to decode on the last page. So yeah...a lot packed into this book and great for a lot of different ages!
This was such a fun book! Each page covers a different animal and the music they are making. My kids had so much fun reading this book! The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous and we spent a significant amount of time just absorbing all the wonderful art. There are secret letters hidden on each page, and my daughter sat down with a pen and paper to try to figure out what they spelled. In addition to all the fun IN the book, there is an APP that you get when you purchase the book that has music to play along with the story. That was the COOLEST thing! The music made the story so much more interactive. The kids loved it!
I would highly recommend this for preschool through middle elementary children!
I was provided an advanced reader's copy of this book for free. I am leaving my review voluntarily.
Known for his prowess as an author whose words can send a chill down your spine, Dan Brown’s endeavour to come up with a children’s book is praiseworthy. Carefully thought and organized, Wild Symphony is all about music and harmony. Blending a thousand musical notes together, Brown manages to add rhyme and juxtapose two ideas together is such an easy manner.
What a great concept! I recommend downloading the app to listen to the music as you read. The music represents each animal so perfeclty! I also love the little SEL reminders on each page. Great for music teachers and counselors, too!
Ovo je bilo super zabavno! Skeniranjem QR koda na slikovnici možete skinuti aplikaciju koja uz svaku stranicu svira zabavne, jako melodične simfonijske skladbe koje pojačaju cijelu atmosferu čitanja i čitanog.
Wonderful extremely unique book! This book is multi faceted. It has beautiful illustrations, glossy smooth pages that feel luxurious to touch, and lyrical poetic text. Along with the actual physical book, there is an app which you access easily by scanning the grid in the book. Then via the app you listen to classical music composed by Dan Brown, which accompanies each part of the book. Each part is about different animals who together make up Maestro Mouse's symphony. Each animal plays a different instrument in the symphony. The book introduces the musical instruments- violin, trombone, timpani, clarinet, piano, tuba, flute, French horn, bells, harp, bassoon, triangle, guiro, tambourine, marimba, cymbals, bass, maracas. It doesn't explain each instrument, but maybe a music teacher could do that to enrich the book. There is a different musical composition for each animal, and it exemplifies the animals characteristics in musical format. Besides the text and music, there are 2 puzzles in the book. The 1st is hidden letters in each animals page/s, which descrambles into the musical instrument that animal plays in the symphony. The 2nd is a coded message on the last page of the book. I figured out the code, but it seems to be scrambled and I'm now stumped and have not decoded the message. If anyone has figured it out, please comment! There is also a little bee 🐝 hidden on each page. Each animal story also has a wise life advice. Morals like keep practicing, and listen. There's beauty to be found everywhere, and remember that you have special talents. Enjoy the small things in life. Don't judge someone by their outer appearance. Falling down/making mistakes is part of life and you need to just get back up! There is an "anxious ostrich" who buries his head in the sand ie time out alone to escape being overwhelmed. Not sure if children will understand the word "anxious." The last interesting thing, is Dan Brown says he has hidden many "Easter eggs" and surprises in the book, I think for the adults. So far, the only one I found is "DVC" printed on a fish, which clearly means "Da Vinci Code," his most famous book. I have to look more carefully. Although the only book I read of his is The Da Vinci Code. This book features animals of land and sea, from different habitats. It uses technology, music, reading, and art. Basically it involves seeing, hearing, feeling/touch, and critical thinking/problem solving. Only missing taste and smell! He needs to add recipes and a scratch and sniff. Lol Dan Brown has been playing music his entire life. It's wonderful how he combined his love of music with literature. He was inspired when he listened to frogs "making music. " He hopes to inspire a new generation of children to appreciate, learn about, and love classical music. I agree that the arts- music, art, and literature are important in education. I highly recommend this book. Hoping someone can say what the coded message is at the end, and if anyone has found any other Easter eggs within the book!

A delightful book for music lovers of all ages! The free music app to use along with the story was wonderful. My grandson loved hitting the arrow to advance to the next reading and accompanying music.
