Works of American poet Edwin Arlington Arlington include long narratives and character studies of New Englanders, including "Miniver Cheevy" (1907).

Edwin Arlington Robinson won three Pulitzer Prizes for his work. His family moved to Gardiner, Maine, in 1870. He described his childhood as "stark and unhappy."

Early difficulties of Robinson led to a dark pessimism, and his stories dealt with "an American dream gone awry."

In 1896, he self-published his first book, "The Torrent and the Night Before", paying 100 dollars for 500 copies. His second volume, "The Children of the Night", had a somewhat wider circulation.

Edwin Arlington Robinson won the Pulitzer Prize for poetry in 1922 for his first "Collected Poems," in 1925 for "The Man Who Died Twice," and in 1928 for "Tristram."

I too dream of Priam’s neighbours, mourn Romance, and fall in love with Medicis (albeit only in Assassin's Creed).

This is a really poignant poem about a man who forfeits today, because he wishes that he was born yesterday in historical eras past.

Read it because of Midnight in Paris (Allen, 2011) and found gold seeking for copper (just made that up, don’t blame me). Sometimes I could relate more than I’d like with our dear Miniver...

Every time I convince myself I like poetry I read a volume like this and realize I understand maybe one stanza out of ten.

But I liked "Richard Cory" for the unexpected twist and "Another Dark Lady" for calling her a devil in the most savage way. (Talk about a good breakup verse.) Oh, also "Theophilus" because "Theophilus, we like you best asleep" is a funny burn and so is "Sleep--sleep; and let us find another man/To lend another name less hazardous:/Caligula, maybe, or Caliban/or Cain,--but surely not Theophilus."
IDK what Theophilus did but he's in for it now.
Maybe this is the kind of work you need to read in an English class to really understand.

Best Ever

This was the first Robinson poem I read. Of course, I had to read more and had the pleasure of meeting a professor of literature who felt the same. And yes, you can spend endless evenings in love with the poet and the poem..

The poems in this book are wise, ironic, and sad. I first read "Richard Corey" when I was fourteen, and I still haven't recovered from it.
