This book is the "rags" portion of the riches-to-rags-to-riches trope. Ms. Thacker is an infuriating "rhymes with witch," Molly struggles with the loss of her father (and her privilege), and Lucy and Evie shine as the best friends ever.

I read this in primary school - over 10 years ago. It's still stuck in my mind and I still have the book as well!
