The Model is an art book from Italian cartoonist Milo Manara, who is renowned primarily for his more erotic work. This collection can be considered a bit of meta-commentary on Manara's output, with the various pieces featuring artists, painters, sculptors, etc. crafting their masterpieces around their muses. The Model is basically a testament to feminine beauty through Manara's eyes, and as such can be seen as foundational towards understanding the way he works. Despite the emphasis on the feminine form, The Model features a more subdued and perhaps even, respectful, approach compared to Manara's broader body of work. Some may find that this makes it a little less representative of the artist's talents, and also not nearly as visually striking, though I still found this to be a vibrant sampling.
