The back cover promises a dense and allusive book, and that's a pretty fair estimation. But it's one of those things-- density to what end, allusive to what-- that probably is telling about how you respond to this book. And for me, my response was frustration, with a dash of tedium-- I don't mean for a minute to imply everyone will read the book and feel this way, but it didn't work for me.

The book appears to be a meditation on war, especially the war in Iraq (and maybe, on occasion, in Afghanis
