Friends Emily Bing and Matt Martinez have discovered that the Canadian Flyer, an antique red sled, holds amazing powers. The magical sled has taken them all over the country and all through time. Along the way, they’ve come face to face with pirates, dinosaurs, prospectors, Vikings, and even Alexander Graham Bell. In the latest book in the Canadian Flyer Adventures series, Matt and Emily want to know everything about the Titanic and how it sank on April 15, 1912. And when the sled flies them to the famous ship on the afternoon of April 14, they realize they only have a few hours before the ship collides with an iceberg. Reminiscent of the popular Magic Treehouse series, in the Canadian Flyer Adventures a magic sled takes two children back in time to explore important historic Canadian events. Fans of the Magic Treehouse books will love these fast paced, easy to read adventure stories. Short chapters and age appropriate vocabulary make these books perfect for children ready for their first chapter books.

In this fourteenth book, Matt and Emily ride their sled back to 1912 to the Titanic on it’s historic voyage across the Atlantic. They explore the state of the art ship, seeing the sights and meeting new friends whom they try to warn about the impending disaster. Of course no one believes them, but they do manage to ensure that their new friends make it onto lifeboats in time.

The educational highlights of this book, as in all of the series are Emily and Matt’s Top Ten Facts and the author’s note section. These brief lists build on the information the story covered.

This is No. 14 of the Canadian Flyer series which is a series very reminiscent of the Magic Treehouse series.

Young children would love Emily and Matt's adventures travelling back in time on their magic sled. In this installment they travel back to the Titanic and make a bid to save the giant ship. It touches gently on the tragedy while including historically accurate details.

A good one for the younger crowd who've exhausted the Magic Treehouse series...although both series do cover pretty much the same adventures as far as I can tell.
