Sometimes you have to recommend an older book that has really stuck with you. This is true for Dodson's visionary science fiction novel, published in 1976 in which a (then) freak weather pattern causes a massive temperature rise across North America blowing the power grid. In New York City, high rises are abandoned, the social order breaks down, gangs roam the streets and a man and woman struggle to survive amid growing lawlessness. I first read this some 30 years ago and the story stuck with me ... and I have been recalling it more often as our weather patterns get increasingly strange. Could it happen? More and more it seems so. Highly recommended if you can find it.
