Every Christian is called to be a disciple, but do we realise this? And what does it mean? This book guides us through the essential topic of discipleship. Peter Maiden, after a lifetime of discipleship, shows from his own struggles and experiences that the life of discipleship is a life of relationship - a love between us and Jesus. We are called to servanthood, to being wise in the use of time and money. Then there are things we can do by ourselves: the spiritual disciplines of prayer, Bible study, fasting; and things we can do to help each other, as church communities. Finally, he looks at what it is all for - mission. All who is all for - Jesus.
An easy read that touches on many topics that modern-day Christianity avoids. For all interested in what it looks like to be a true disciple of Jesus, obey His commands and walk fruitfully, I’d recommend reading this. I liked the prompting questions to reflect on after each chapter!
I was looking for books on Christian discipleship, and this is the first book I picked up in a pile I've collected. An excellent, sober and well-balanced work, I appreciated the fact it isn't a cold, analytical text, but personal, real, and challenging - challenging me to consider my own walk with God and how I can follow Jesus more closely.
Много добра книга за това какво означава да си ученик на Христос, как следваме Христос и как трябва да го правим. Книга, която те кара да се замислиш ти къде си на пътя с Христос.
This is a challenging introduction to following the teaching of Jesus for those how have committed themselves to Him. It is not a difficult read academically, but I'm sure it will be a challenge to put into practise. He addresses several issues that we may want to avoid like money, sex and time. However, these issues are ones that need to be talked about precisely because nobody is. I recommend this book to anyone who is willing to examine their life by the standards and teachings of Jesus.
This is book comprehensively covers what discipleship means. It is easy to read and the chapters are short. At the end of each chapter are questions or an exercise to help you consolidate your learning. The author is widely read and the book is littered with quotes from authors of other books which help to illuminate thinking and drive home the point. If you want to learn what it means to be a disciple of Jesus then this book is worth checking out.
