A richly detailed historical with a fast paced adventure. There are a couple of eye-rolling moments but in all it was a very nice read where the love aspect doesn't over-shadow the plot. A very interesting turn of events rounded out this wonderful Love Inspired Historical!! I ordered this one off of Amazon and it arrived to me bruised; battered and beaten but I'm glad I kept it together long enough to finish. A keeper.
Redeeming Gabriel was a book that had espionage, romance, suspense, and Civil War history all wrapped into one. In only 280 pages, the author was able to take me on a journey to watch two people meet in the height of the civil war where they joined forces to keep more death from happening. Things weren't always pretty, and this wasn't a soft-hearted romance; but the truth of the Civil War is that it was nor romantic - it was an ugly war where brother fought against brother and the unthinkable wa ...more
White's work is always enriched in the deep south, particularly Mobile, Alabama, which is just across the bay from where I live. I love reading up on local history. This inspirational author never disappoints. Not only does she delve into the Civil War era of Mobile history, she digs into the nautical history of the military. I recommend this book for the hero, Gabriel, who is a Union spy posing as a minister, the colorful walk through Civil War Mobile and Baldwin County as well as the well-writ ...more
It seems that there are few Civil War era books out there, but this one fits the bill. Twists and turns, all the issues that were part of the day had me turning pages, including the historical facts. This was the war that tore families apart--and this book doesn't back off this tender topic. I've always loved Civil War history and novels, too, so I was glad that the Love Inspired Historical line came out with one.
I enjoyed this book. Once in awhile I enjoy reading a "Christian" book, mainly because there is no blatant sex, violence or use of 4-letter words. This book takes place during the Civil War and concerns two people who meet and are drawn to each other, even though they support different political views. As far as being Christian, the author isn't "in your face" with references to God or believing. I like that. So anyway, I liked the story and will probably read more by this author.
This book was so delightful from the very beginning. I learned so much about the Civil war from a personal perspective. It was like you were the past from some you knew and met. Also the war and love did not allows go together. War would divide families and love would bring together those from opposing sides. This was a book that I will treasure always.
