I had read Kate’s novel “The Whisper of Calaresp” prior to delving into this short story collection and was unsurprised to discover the same glorious descriptive writing I had so enjoyed on show in this collection.
Kate Campbell's debut short story collection "In The Shadows" serves up a chilling array of 10 supernatural tales set in the sinister shadows of Scotland. Spanning the 17th century to present day, Campbell masterfully builds tension and atmosphere in stories that range from hauntings to ancient evil awakened.
In "Through the Tides of Time," a cursed brooch draws a woman into a centuries-old tragedy. "The Secrets of the Sea" follows hikers seeking shelter where a malevolent force lurks. Ancient forest evil stalks a hiker in "Shadows of the Past." Campbell excels at evocative details, from creaking floorboards to fleeting shadows, that ratchet up the creep factor. Creepy short stories!
10 short tales of Scottish ghosts and ghouls. Each of these were creepy in their own way. Definitely worth reading if you enjoy ghostly/witchy creepy tales of old.

In dieser Kurzgeschichtensammlung werden Geschichten über Geister und Ghoule in Schottland erzählt.

Schottland ist ein tolles Setting für diese Sammlung und natürlich prädestiniert für Geistergeschichten. Der Nebel, die Schlösser, die Highlands sind perfekt geeignet. Mit nur 100 Seiten ist das Buch recht kurz und dementsprechend sind es auch die Kurzgeschichten. Aber trotzdem sind sie spannend aufgebaut und es entsteht eine gruselige Atmosphäre. Außerdem sind die Geschichten allesamt in sich schlüssig und der Schreibstil ist sehr angenehm zu lesen.
