The Jungle Book #1
The Jungle Book: Rikki Tikki Tavi moves in
The story of Mowgli, the Man-Cub raised by wolves in the jungles of India, is one of the greatest literary works of all time. This magnificent edition of Kipling's masterpiece is illustrated by Hans Christian Andersen Medalist Robert Ingpen.
Rescued as an infant from the savage tiger Shere Khan, Mowgli is reared by a pack of wolves. His days are filled with excitement and danger as he learns the ways of the jungle from Bagheera the panther and the wise bear, Baloo. As the boy grows, he also learns he must take his place among his own kind-- but first, he must face Shere Khan in a battle of wits and strength to discover the true King of the Jungle... .Along with the story of Mowgli are other jungle tales-- including "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi," "The White Seal," and "Toomai of the Elephants"-- lending depth and diversity to our understanding of Kipling's India.

I think we were pleasantly surprised that we did actually enjoy this book although it went slightly downhill after the first three quarters. The language was a bit tough at times but we muddled through. Even the younger girls were able to pick out similarities and differences when compared to the movie.

This is an Easy Reader edition of a classic story. I suppose it works as a story but it's not a very exciting one. In fact, I think children are missing out on just how scary the cobra(s) are. Look elsewhere for Mongoose V. Cobra fights. All you get here is a race.
